director’s Notes

Going into the woods can be scary—a foreboding place where we will encounter darkness, strange creatures, and other elements unknown to us. Or as in Shakespeare, is it a magical place where anything is possible—love and redemption, a locale where all that was once wrong may now be put right. One of the ideas that lies at the center of the play is the warning—be careful what you wish for, you might get it. In our heart of hearts isn’t there something we long for, yearn for, need—a dream or hope that keeps us moving forward though it is seemingly unattainable? What is it we seek—fame, fortune, status, and love, a child—a wish—to fill a void in our hearts and minds—a search for that missing piece of the puzzle to make us whole? That is just what each character goes into the woods to achieve and we see how it affects them as people. Some rise above their shortcomings, some fall victim to their needs, and some are forced to grow up too quickly. What choices might we have made were we in their shoes? Are they victims or victimizers? Each must live with the decisions they have made as we must live with the decisions we make every day. They live in a fairy tale—we live in the real world. What have we wrought on others and they on us? Something to think about.

For all you do . . .

Sarah GillFor always wanting to do more . . .

Mr. PolanskyFor all your support . . .

And last but certainly not least . . .Kenneth Harlan Gilbert

For the last seven years (and the phrase “lucky 7” is quite fitting) you have been my right hand, my therapist, my censor, my arbiter of good taste, my designer (lighting, sets, and sound), my partner in crime, and most of all my friend. The thought of entering the audito-rium looking to the stage and not seeing you there is a daunting one. You are gruff, rough, and good-lookin’ on the outside and a teddy bear with the patience of a saint on the inside. My “loss” is personal—the school community is losing much more . . . as you turn off the house lights for the last time and walk out those auditorium doors into retirement know that not just anyone can do what you have done for Huntington High School and those kids’ lives that were made better by knowing you. See ya’ at the first tee . . .

in Anne of Green Gables. There is never a dull moment, never a day passed without laughter among the family that the cast has become. She hopes that everyone will enjoy the show as much as she does! And to all of the seniors, she wishes to thank them for all the love and support they have provided her, and wishes them (and the rest of the cast of course!) the best of luck!

MATTISON CHADWICK (Mysterious Man) is excited for his senior performance as the Mysterious Man. He wants to thank Mrs. Mainville for the hours of practice, his friends and

family for their support, and his girlfriend for putting up with his mysterious antics.

NANCY FALLON (Little Red Ridinghood), a tenth grader, is appearing in her fourth performance at Huntington High School. Regionally, Nancy has performed at the John W. Engeman Theater in

Oliver! (Orphan, Fagin’s Gang, Schoolgirl) and Miracle on 34th Street (Brigitte/Dutch Girl). Other shows at Huntington High School include Lady Windermere’s Fan (Ensemble), The Sound of Music (Brigitte Von Trapp) and Anne of Green Gables, (Miss Minnie). She has also played Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls and Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress, both at Finley Middle School. Other credits include You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Violet), 13 (Molly), and Alice in Wonderland (Small Alice). She would like to thank Mr. Schwen-demann, Ms. Mainville, Ms. Castaneda, Ms. Freed, and Gil as well as the amazing cast and crew for supporting her and making this show incredible, especially the seniors! She wishes all the seniors luck in college and will miss them dearly. Their talent is incredible and she has learned so much

from acting with them. Nancy wanted to dedicate her performances to her Grandma and Granny Laquisha Jones.

NICHOLAS LUKE FREIMAN (Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince) has been attracted to all forms of music ever since his mother performed the title role of Carmen as he developed in the womb. He is sensitive, clever,

well-mannered, considerate, passionate, charming, as kind as he’s handsome, and heir to a throne. To what throne, he does not know. Making appearances as Mr. Bumble in Oliver!, Mr. John Brooke in Little Women, and Rolf in The Sound of Music, Nick is enthralled to be performing his final show at Huntington HS. While he enjoys walks on the beach and piña coladas, Nick spends much of his time alone in his room playing guitar and writing music. When not in his room, Nick has played the sousaphone in the Blue Devils Marching Band, fenced foil on the fencing team, and enjoyed life. He appreciates the copious amounts of support he has received from his family, his diva friends in drama club whom he loves dearly, as well as Schwen-dy, Mainville, and Victoria Lombardi (the coolest teachers). He also thanks his non-drama club friends for making the back-breaking effort to come see the show.

GRACE GEDEON (Rapunzel) At 4 years old, Grace performed in her first play How To Eat Like A Child at Summit Play-house. Last year at Finley Middle School she played the title role in their pro-

duction of Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and also received the Outstanding Achievement in Chorus award. Grace sings in the Adult Choir of Saint Patrick’s Church in Huntington and enjoys working stage crew for the Minstrel Players in Northport. She is

Who’s Who in the Cast

CAROLANNE BUONIELLO (Sleeping Beauty) is very excited to be performing in this year’s production of Into the Woods. This is her third show at HHS. Some of her previous roles include Chip in Beauty

and the Beast, Lady Larken in Once Upon a Mattress, a narrator in Aladdin, Linus in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Marta in The Sound of Music and Josie Pye in Anne of Green Gables. Carolanne feels honored to be working with such a talented cast. She would like to thank her amazing cast for always making her laugh and for just being the best. She would also like to say that she will miss the seniors terribly and that they are the funniest, most talented and just some of the nicest people she has ever met. Lastly she would like to thank Schwend, Gil, and Mrs. Mainville for always making the shows the best they can be.

ZACH BURDEN (Baker) is “so happy” to be going “into the woods” one last time, in his sixth and last show at Huntington High School. After being a cross dressing peasant, who had the prettiest

dress of the whole cast (Francis Flute/Thisbe, A Midsummer Night’s Dream), an old lonely nameless knight (Knight, Little Women), a lord who likes to cheat on his wife with fans (Lord Windermere, Lady Windermere’s Fan), a Nazi butler/priest for the corniest family in all of Austria (Franz/Priest, The Sound of Music), and a real ivanHOE who just loved silly-marilly (Ira Mills, Anne of Green Gables), Zach is

extremely happy to be in one of his dream roles as an idiot baker, who obviously can’t get anything to bake in the oven. When Zach isn’t at drama club, he is around the school in Chamber Choir (Publicist), A Cappella Choir, Yearbook (Editor in Chief), Student Government (Senior Class President) and as the Photo Intern. But other than basically living at the school, Zach enjoys long walks on the beach and playing with a witch’s magic beans. Thank you to the whole cast, the parents, Ms. Freed, Ms. Castaneda, Gil, Ms. Mainville, and Schwen for making this such an amazing gradua-tion present; I love you all so much. Sorry for making my bio so long, “what’s impor-tant really is the size!” Now before there is “no more” room, #drmaclubproblems. And for the last time, PCELUVDRMACLUB. Drama Geeks Forever.

DECLAN BYRNE (Jack) is very excited to be playing Jack in Into the Woods this year. He has had a lot of fun being in drama club. He has played Mr. Hopper in Lady Windermere’s Fan and Friedric in The Sound

of Music. He would like to say good luck and thanks to all of his fellow cast mates!

RACHEL CARPENTER (Snow White) is honored to be a part of such a talented group of individuals, and loving every minute of the making of Into the Woods! She has also played Lady

Agatha in Lady Windermere’s Fan, a nun in The Sound of Music, and Diana Barry

mind. Anyway, Chelsea has played Julie Jordan in Carousel, Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jo March in Little Women, Mrs. Erlynne in Lady Windermere’s Fan and The Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music at Huntington High School and has performed at many other theaters as well. At the Cultural Arts playhouse Chelsea per-formed, Once on This Island, Mama Euralie, Once Upon a Mattress, Lady Larken, and Beauty and the Beast, Mrs. Potts. Other roles include, Marta in The Sound of Music, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Ms. Flannery in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Nancy in Oliver!. Chelsea would like to thank Tammy Hensrud, her vocal coach of the past 4 years for shaping her into the singer she is today, Helen Murdock Prep, her acting coach who helped her through college au-dition season and her family for always be-lieving in her. She would also like to thank Mrs. Freed, Mainville, Gil and Schwen for their continuous support over the years along with her fellow seniors, whom made her experience truly memorable. No matter where we end up or what we do I will never forget the memories we’ve shared and the impact you’ve had on me as a performer and a person. :)

OLIVIA LIEPA (Cinder-ella’s Stepmother) is in eleventh grade at Huntington High School and is ecstatic to be in her fifth production with the HHS Drama Club. She has had so much

fun being involved in Into the Woods and is so happy to have had this experience. She wants to thank the amazing cast, crew, and pit for all of the time and talent they’ve put into this musical. Finally, she wants to give a huge thank you to Ms. Castaneda, Mr. Gilbert, Mrs. Freed, Mrs. Mainville, and Mr. Schwendemann for everything they’ve done to make this show what it is.

PATRICK LOMBARDI (Student Director) For the first time, Patrick finds himself a part of the show offstage. This is the first musical he’s taken part in, and ultimately he’s just happy to be any part

whatsoever of a show as great as this one with people as great as those in it.

BOBBY MARCUS (Student Director) is saddened by his last production in Huntington High School. From being King of the Fairies to the being a Mary Kate Olsen clone, he has learned many things

about himself from his time in the club. Confidence, friendship, dreams, and many other clichés later, he sometimes wishes he’d never joined. That way he would never have to say goodbye to all the wonder-ful people he was forced to love and care about deeply. Remember that, as Emperor Augustus of Rome once said, “The play is done! Applaud!”

KEVIN McCONNELL (Milky White) is very excited to be in his third show at Huntington High School. He enjoyed his previous two roles as Gilbert Blithe in Anne of Green Gables

and Georg in The Sound of Music. Though playing the cow has been an interesting role to play, Kevin is fully prepared to give a “moo-ving” performance tonight. However, Kevin is very sad to have to say goodbye to not just his favorite senior class ever but some of his best friends. He has enjoyed Drama Club every day since joining be-cause of the amazing friends that he has made, he will greatly miss his kooky seniors and wishes that they all go off to college and stay as perfect as they already are.

a freshman, stoked to be in her first Huntington High School production, and sends thanks to Mr. Schwendemann, the cast and crew of Into the Woods.

KATHERINE GERDES (Baker’s Wife) is a senior at Huntington High School and is delighted to be portraying The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods. Past shows at Huntington include Carousel, A

Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Women, Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Sound of Music, and Anne of Green Gables. She’s so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast and inspir-ing leaders. You all have been a second family to me and given me some of my most cherished memories. Thank you all, I will miss you more than you will know.

HAILEY GIORDANO (Granny) is overjoyed to be on stage for her third musical at Huntington! Hailey is currently in her junior year and lovin’ life. She likes piña coladas and getting caught in the

rain! Hailey is hoping this year’s perfor-mance will be the best one to date but is sad to see the seniors, who she loves so much, leave. She wants to thank her family for being so supportive and especially thank Mr. Schwendemann for always mak-ing her laugh. Hailey wants to dedicate her performance to Lil’ Tay Tay Red! Break a leg everyone. Xoxo Crispy Bones

ANDREW GUNTHNER (Steward) is ecstatic to be a part of this year’s performance of Into the Woods. Andrew originally joined Drama Club as a shy little kid but has

blossomed into a beautiful weirdo. He has gained many friends from this experience and would like to thank Mr. Schwende-mann and Mrs. Mainville for putting up with him. He has been in past performanc-es at Huntington High School including The Sound of Music as Kurt Von Trapp and Anne of Green Gables as Moody. Andrew will miss all of the seniors that are leaving this year, especially Stephanie Shea, and would like to thank them for being such great friends. Break a leg everyone!

BRENDAN HIGGINS (Assistant to the Director) graduated Huntington High School in 2012 and is thrilled to participate in the Drama Club as Assistant Student Direc-tor of Into the Woods.

Brendan participated in every drama and musical during his time as a student in HHS. In 2012 when he graduated, he was awarded the Joseph Samodi Theatre Arts Award. Brendan discovered the Drama Club in Huntington Intermediate when he was in fourth grade and was in thirteen productions through his graduation. He also helped to student direct The Sound of Music in 2013. His dream is to be an actor on Law and Order or Glee. He would like to thank Mr. Schwendy and his friends in the Drama Club. He is grateful for the oppor-tunity to still be involved in this amazing production.

CHELSEA HOLMES (Witch) This is Chelsea’s seventh and final production with the Huntington High School Drama Club and she is grateful for the many opportunities she has had in the district.

She’s excited to go out with a “bang, crash and lightning flash” as the Witch in Into the Woods but that’s another story—never

KYLE MEIT (Rapunzel’s Prince) This is Kyle’s first ever musical perfor-mance and he’s very enthusiastic to be a part of this production. Kyle is treasurer of Natural Helpers, a member of

the fencing team and a part of A Cappella. He is “sensitive, clever, well-mannered, considerate, passionate, charming, as kind as he’s handsome and heir to the throne” (“Agony,” Into the Woods) and is very excited for the play.

SARAH MOSDEN (Cinder-ella’s Mother) is excited to be performing in Into the Woods, but is sad-dened to be submitting “The Last Bio.” Sarah is a senior at Huntington High School and is a

drama club lifer. She is the only member of her class to have participated in all eight drama club productions throughout high school. Sarah started her drama club experience by performing in the 2010 fall production, The Skin of Our Teeth. Follow-ing that show, you may have also seen her in Carousel, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Women, Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Sound of Music, and Anne of Green Gables. Sarah would like to thank a few very important people. First, she would like to thank Mrs. Castaneda, Mrs. Freed, and Mr. Gilbert for their hard work and dedication going into this show. She would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Mainville, her mentor, for doing more than imaginable to make the cast sound their best. Sarah would also like to give a huge thank you to Schwen for being the best director possible these past four years, and wants to remind him to keep wearing Peanuts ties. Most importantly, Sarah would like to thank the drama club graduating class of 2014. Even though they often throw tape at each other (or at least Monica) they get along so well,

and Sarah knows that they will always be connected through the memories of drama club. Although this is Sarah’s final show at Huntington High School, she wants it to go out with a “bang crash lightning flash.” A big “break a leg” goes out to the cast and crew!

DARIUS NASH (Narrator) is playing the role of the narrator in the musical. Darius was also one of Huntington High School’s sabre team fencing cap-tains who led the team with a good record and

received an honorable mention All-County honors, and was the sixth alternate on the all-Suffolk team in the exceptional senior meet. While this is Darius’s first show he is very enthusiastic and serious about his role and is very happy to work with such a talented group of students. Darius is sad that since he is a senior won’t be able to perform in any other shows.

BRIANNE NEIRA (Giant) is so excited to be in her second musical with HHS. She is a tenth grader who has been in other shows such as Grease, Guys and Dolls, Our Town, and Brighton Beach Memoirs.

She wants to thank the cast for an amazing experience!

MONICA OWEN (Cinderella) is honored to be playing Cinderella in this spring production of Into the Woods. This is Monica’s sixth and final show at Huntington High School. Past credits

include Anne of Green Gables, The Sound of Music, Lady Windermere’s Fan, Little Women, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Monica would like to thank the rest of the cast for making this show such a wonder-ful experience, and a special shout out to her fellow seniors who she will miss very dearly next year. She would also like to thank Schwen and Mainville for helping get through the crazy rehearsal process and Gill for putting up with all the obstacles thrown at him this year. In addition, Monica kindly asks Mr. Schwendemann to refrain from throwing tape at her during the show. Monica would like to wish the rest of the cast the best of luck, and wishes her fellow seniors the best of luck with all their future endeavors.

BAILEY RIORDAN (Lucinda) is excited to premiere in her first drama club production at the high school. She wants to thank her Mom for bringing her food and driving her all

hours of the night. Bailey is going to miss all of the seniors who really made the drama club amazing.

MADELINE SHEA (Florinda) is very excited to be per-forming in her second show with the Huntington High School Drama Club. She previously performed in the fall drama, Anne of Green Gables, and has

done many other shows in and outside of school. She is honored to get to work with all of the outstanding seniors, as well as the rest of the cast, crew, and pit. She would like to thank Schwen and Ms. Mainville for including her in this produc-tion and can’t wait for everyone to enjoy Into the Woods!

STEPHANIE SHEA (Jack’s Mother) is back with the drama club to play Jack’s Mom in this spring’s pro-duction of Into the Woods. She can’t believe this is her seventh and final production on the Hun-

tington High School stage and it has been extremely bittersweet. Some of Stephanie’s favorite theatre experiences have been performing as Mrs. Rachel Lynde in Anne of Green Gables, Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Aunt March in Little Women, Lucy in 13, The Musical, Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, Mrs. Meers in Thor-oughly Modern Millie, and many more. She would like to thank her friends and family for always supporting her. She would also like to thank Schwen, Mrs. Freed, Gil, Mrs. Mainville and her seniors. It has been a kooky (to say the least) four years in this club and she can’t believe it’s over. I love you all and I will miss you. Stephanie would like her underclassmen to know she can’t believe she won’t be around to mother you next year but she’d like to remind you all to never give up on yourselves or each other no matter what. “Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone!” Break legs everyone!!

JUSTIN WAITE (Cinderella’s Father) is a tenth grader. He enjoys singing and being with friends. You might have seen him in The Sound of Music, Grease, 42nd Street, and Once Upon a Mattress.

He is glad to be in another successful year with Drama Club!

Thank you to Schwendy, Gil, Jessica Castaneda, Veronica Mainville, Ms. Lombardi & Mrs. Freed

ZB – I love you so much. I don’t know where I would be without your laugh and your Oprah voice and everything else you do that drives me crazy but also your love and support. I just don’t know what I’m going to do without you next year. Thanks for the laughs and the smiles and all of the hugs. Through thick and thin you will always be the boy that got us kicked out of the mirror game in 10th grade/my Hamptons love/my prom date/the Jamie to my Cathy/AMARD member/my best friend. “Because I knew you I have been changed for good”

MO – I love you and I don’t know who I’m going to be absolutely evil and insane with next year. From ruining K & D’s lives, to spinning around a pole, to writing our songs about raccoons (among other things), to our imaginary shots, our screltathons, our scary movie nights and so much more we’ve always been in it together! Always remember – predictability and un pequeno perro.

KG – yeah we’re evil and we hate everyone but I like it that way! I’m going to miss you so much! You have kept me sane in the craziest of moments and I can’t imagine being without my Nancy Drew rock anymore. I love you so much! Can’t wait until we write our books and become famous and hate on all of the peasants of the past and present. “Excuse me, I’ll have to call you back, someone just climbed out of my wardrobe”

Good Luck Kevin!! Love – Mom, Dad & the whole fam!

“Sometimes people leave youHalfway through the wood

Others may deceive youYou decide what’s good

You decide aloneBut no one is alone”

Class of 2014—you entered the building on the heels of the first class that worked with me from their freshman year until I sent them off to college. As I gaze around the auditorium today I see a senior class that has been in any number of shows—from their first to their eighth. Each one of you has shared your dedication, your talent, and part of yourselves with me. We have had quite the roller-coaster ride—and like any amusement park attraction our “ride” has been exciting and scary—we’ve had our share of laughter and tears, but more important than that I hope we have created memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. We have shared our thoughts our hopes, our dreams, our loves, our losses, our successes, and our disappointments—never judging (well, almost never), never shunning, and never forgetting we are a family. You came to me Little Women (and men, of course) rode this crazy Carousel to The Sound of Music and now I usher you out Into the Woods to face the rest of your lives . . . Know that the laughter will far outweigh the tears you will see as you take your final bow . . .

Seniors – “I guess this is goodbye old PALS!” I can’t believe it. It has been a crazy and unbelievably quick ride. Though there have been ups and downs I have always felt blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people. I couldn’t have asked for a better group to have traveled through school with (especially to have as a drama club fam-ily!) I love you all so much and I know you’re all going to accomplish amazing things. I’ll never forget you guys and all of the happy memories we’ve shared. Remember – If you feed them they will come. Break legs! – SS

A huge thank you to Schwen, Gil, Freed, Mainville, Lombo, Castaneda and Stellato. It has been a privilege getting to work with all of you. Drama club has been my family and the auditorium has been my home for the past four years and I want to thank you all for keeping it alive. I will miss you more than you know! Good luck with everything! – Stephanie Shea

Underclassmen – I love you all so much and I’m so proud of you! Remember – when the going gets tough just keep going. I know how easy it is to lose faith but I promise you there will be something that makes it all worthwhile. You’re all so strong and talented and you better keep in touch. It has been an honor getting to work with you all and I’m going to miss you so much! Break legs now and for the rest of your high school careers in drama club. It goes by way too fast. – Stephanie Shea

Quacked Up Quad taking over the theatre world one line (or scar) at a time – Pedobler

SS – So I hope that the second we graduate you don’t block me on Facebook, espe-cially because we need to go back to the Hamptons ;-), Even though we have come across our rough patches, we stayed strong and made it through. You always “make me happy.” After this show is over “another one bites the dust.” I hope that we can still make our Amard club to rebel. You deserve so much and I love you! “Knowing the things about you I know, things when I met you four years ago, I knew. It never took much convincing to make me believe in you.” I love you, Margarine. – ZB

To my fellow seniors: WE MADE IT!! (somehow… ) From Midsummer’s to the Woods, it has come full circle of going into the woods with you guys. (I am not including our freshman shows because I didn’t do them– aka one of my biggest regrets.) I’m a little brown bat looking for a “last midnight” snack. OHHHH NOOOO. You all are amazing and bring something different to the table. I feel like you guys are a second family to me. Let’s make the most of our last show! Stephanie, Monica, Kat, Chelsea, Sarah, Julie, Nick, Bobby, Mattison, Darius – Break a leg! – Love, Zach

To the Underclassmen, thank you for making my last year here so enjoyable. You are all so great and I am going to miss you so much. I can’t wait to hear about what is to come for the future of Drama Club. – ZB

Schwen, Mainville, Gil, Fried, Lombo, thanks for being awesome throughout the whole process. Stay #living your big beautiful dream and GUUUUUUIILLLTYYYYYY!! Congrats Gil on your last show and your retirement! You will be missed! – ZB=

BFFL – we have shared so much laughter and so many tears these past four years. Thank you for being my friend, and for being my family! XO – Your partner in crime.
