we took the concept of camouflage back to square one,

and based our pattern and colour choices on the science of

animal vision. we have addressed the problems of current

camo patterns on the market, and created a universal camo

that can be worn in any hunting environment. Using the

visual disruption of high contrast macro and micro patterns

as opposed to mimicry techniques means Veil camo can

be used in multiple environments - You are confusing your

target, not mimicing part of its environment. This makes

hunters unrecognizable as predators

Ungulate Vision (Hooved Animals)

Ungulates have panoramaic vision however they only have

a small window of binocular vision directly in front of them.

The rest of their visual field is 2D and seen as flat masses of

colour. Their vision is slightly blurrier than ours, impairing

their ability to see explicit detail.

They cannot see tones in the red colour spectrum, viewing

the world in shades of yellow, blue and grey. They also

have an enhanced ability to see Ultraviolet light, which is

heightened at dawn and dusk.

ANIMAL VISION

Waterfowl Vision

Waterfowl have a panoramic field of vision with a full colour

spectrum, including Ultraviolet light. However, they have

low contrast sensitivity – an inability to see “edges” very

clearly, and have relatively poor depth perception.

To provide hunters with a universal camouflage that is

effective in a multitude of environments.

At Hunters Element we are constantly striving to break

the mould through creativity and innovation. We have

investigated the science of animal vision, and re-created

the foundation of concealment, targeting the weaknesses

of waterfowl and ungulate eyesight or vision. Embarking

on this journey of creating a hybrid breed of camo has

been one of our biggest and most challenging ventures

in the past decade. Despite many challenges through our

endless testing we have produced a pattern that looks

to revolutionise the way hunters are perceived in a wide

range of hunting environments. Veil Camo is unlike any

other, and will deceive your prey as you slip into your

environment undetected.

HOW CAMO WORKS

ISOLUMINANCE (HIGH CONTRAST)When you are far away from your target with little

depth and contrast, your silhouette blends into one

blob of colour, making you obvious to your target.

Using patterns with a high contrast prevents this

‘blob’ effect, and allows your outline to be broken up

and diffused into the environment.

Animals are not deep thinkers – they rely on instinct.

If their defensive instincts are not activated by what

they see, they will look past you.

MACRO

MICRO

MACRO PATTERNSA macro pattern uses large areas of contrasting

colours, with the intention of breaking up your

silhouette so you’re not distinguishable as a person.

An example of a predator that utilises ‘macro’

camouflage is the Tiger’s stripes. These large vertical

stripes break up the silhouette of the tiger, and

help it blend into tall grass and scrub with the same

horizontal position.

MICRO PATTERNSA micro pattern is much finer than a macro pattern,

often with a lot less contrast, in an effort to have

you blend into the background - it creates noise to

confuse your prey.

The Cheetah’s speckled pattern is a perfect example

of a successful micro pattern - A cheetah lying on the

ground will simply blend in, indistinguishable from

their surroundings.

HOW CAMO WORKS

In the past, the primary approach to camouflage patterns

has been to mimic your surroundings (mimicry camouflage).

Investigation into the science of animal vision has changed

the way we approach concealment, revealing there is so

much more to creating a successful camouflage than using

nature images and colours.

- tree trunks, branches, leaves, reedy blades and bark. But

steer clear of those that lack contrast because at ranges of

25m or more they’ll blob into one solid colour - in a human

silhouette.

Below is a diagram illustrating how a high contrast pattern

breaks up your silhouette, as opposed to a low contrast

pattern which turns you into a human shaped blob.

INSULATION AND WARMTH MANAGEMENTThis performance layer must not restrict moisture transfer

from your Prime Layer to the atmosphere. You can add

more than one layer here to adjust your body temperature

to the desired level. Furnace products are suitable to be

worn with or without a Barrier Layer, depending on the

conditions and use.

Furnace products are semi fitted so they will layer

comfortably. As this layer is often used without

THE PRO TEAM STORYThe Hunters Element Pro Team represents a group of

skilled hunting fanatics, who have a passion for hunting and

Hunters Element gear alike. They are dedicated to their craft

and enjoy nothing more than bragging about their latest

endeavours on our Pro Team page.

At Hunters Element we saw the need to utilise our biggest

fans by getting them to test and review our gear. We will

not release any of our gear to the public before it has been

vigorously tested, so who better to test it than real hunters,

using the gear for its intended purpose.

The Pro Team rug up in our Hunters Element clothing, walk

miles in our boots, load our packs to the brim and hunt

for days in the dense New Zealand bush and the harsh

Australian Outback.

They thrash the gear till the cows come home, to ensure it

will last and fulfil its purpose to the highest standard. They

then review the performance and provide us with feedback

to take into consideration before we release the product

to the world. This testing is a crucial part of our design

and production process, if there are any discrepancies or

areas that could be improved, we re-group, re-design and

re-produce to ensure the product exceeds its functional

purpose with ease.

The Pro Team are a key cog in the machine that is Hunters

Element, they stand behind our gear and practise the craft

Hunters Element stands for.

MEET THE PROTEAM MEMBERS

ANDREW STURT Andrew was raised with a

rod in one hand, and a .22

rifle in the other. Taught

by his Dad to hunt from

a very young age, the

lifestyle has now become

an addiction. Andrew is

a regular blogger and a

valued member of the

Pro Team.

ALEX BROAD Alex has been pig, deer,

duck and pheasant

hunting since the ripe

age of 17, and tries to

get out into the bush

as often as possible.

Alex is also our product

BEAU PEARSON Beau grew up in the

Aussie bush and ocean,

he has a big passion for

outdoors activites such

as hunting, fishing, sailing,

camping - you name it!

JAMES MORRIS James has been hunting

since he was knee high to

a grasshopper. He utilises

his spare time chasing

deer, Chamois and Tahr

around the South Island.

He now focuses his hunting

on collecting trophies,

whether it be horns,

antlers or photographs.

WILLIS MACBETHWillis is based in

Greymouth and spends

a lot of his spare time

hunting red deer,

chamois and tahr mainly

in the mountains of the

West Coast of the South

MICHAEL GIBSON Michael, a keen outdoors

man, started hunting

under the guidance of his

grandfather at the age of

11 which fired a life long

SEAN WALSHSean was born and raised

in Australia. He took

his first billy goat down
