DeeD RestRiction ReminDeRsOur deed enforcement managers would like to remind all
property owners and tenants to maintain a safe and accessible public right of way on our sidewalks. This means trimming any hedges, bushes, plants, flowers or trees back from sidewalks and any pedestrian pathway on your property.
If your hedges, bushes, plants, flowers or trees create any kind of visual blockage or could force a person onto a yard area or the street, in order to navigate around it, it is in violation of the property code. Worse, it could cause an accident, which creates liability for you!
Think of your neighbors, some of whom might be in a wheelchair, using a walking aid or be visually impaired, and keep your sidewalks and driveways free and clear of obstructions. Your consideration is appreciated.
RRisD Gives stuDents a WholeWeek off foR thanksGivinG!
Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) students will have Thanksgiving break for the entire week of November 24-28. Need an idea with what to do with the kids? This could be a good time to consider some volunteer work for your community!
Visit Volunteermatch.org at https://www.volunteermatch.org/volunteer/. This site lists over 450 volunteer opportunities in the Austin Area and allows you to create a personal profile to help you find a good match.
Of course, a good choice could be the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas (CAFB), which serves 21 counties in Central Texas. According to CAFB, more than 1 in 6 Central Texans and nearly 1 in 4 Central Texas children are at risk of hunger. Both figures are above the national average and the percentage of people who are hungry or at risk of hunger is growing at nearly double the growth rate of the overall population.

Be 'Earthkind'Compost!
From Debbie Cole, Greater Texas Landscape Services
Fall is a great time of year in Texas to begin composting. We have an abundance of leaves and the cooler temperatures seem to invigorate gardeners and stimulate new projects.
Compost bins come in all shape, sizes and price ranges. There are quality compost bins available as low as $30.
Stop grinding up vegetable waste from the kitchen in the disposal and put it (with the fall leaves) into your own compost bin! Check online for the LARGE number of styles and sizes available for the home garden.
Note: Do not put leaves (especially live oak leaves) into a compost bin without grinding them up first. They will be slow to break down and frustrating for the composter!
What Can Be Composted? • Coffee grounds• Grass clippings• Leaves• Shredded paper• Tea and coffee grains• Vegetable and fruit scraps• Wood chips• Yard trimmings (old plants, wilted flowers, small prunings)
Source: Greater Texas Landscape Services
What should be avoided in home composting?• Ashes and charcoal• Dairy products• Fats, grease, and oils• Food sauces• Invasive weeds• Meat, fish and poultry (including bones)• Non-organics (plastic, metal, glass, etc.)• Pet feces• Treated wood (or material containing preservatives/toxins)• Waxed or glossy paper
Source: The Austin Resource Recovery site at http://www.austintexas.gov/department/composting
What compost can help do:• Regenerate poor soils• Absorb odors • Remediate contaminated soil• Reduce the need for water, fertilizers, and pesticides• Prevent pollutants in storm water runoff from reaching surface

the drivers behind Austinville 78750. Steve Simmons says, "We wanted to create a center that would house only locally owned businesses, as well as create a place that could become a community gathering place. Austin really supports its locally owned shops and we liked the idea of having a center which would bring them together plus we did not see any center of this kind in the 78750 area, so the idea of Austinville would fill this niche."
