A MESSAGEfrom Ms. Potter-DavisDear Huegel Families,
What a great start to the 2015-16 school year! It was wonderful to see each of our returning students, and also to welcome many new students. I feel grateful to be a part of such an amazing community of staff, students, families and community partners.
We will kick off our new school year by taking time to review our Huegel expectations, which are to be safe, respectful and responsible. All students will practice being safe, respectful and responsible in all areas of our school, including the hallways, cafeteria, playground, bathroom and classroom. On Monday, September 28 we look forward to our annual Community Walk, which will bring our entire school out into the community for a walk around the neighborhood. Parents are welcome to join us on our walk, which will begin at 8:45. Following the walk, students will return to their classrooms for our Floating to Stardom Celebration, where students will share and celebrate the goals they have set for themselves for the first quarter, and also drink root beer floats. Parents are also welcome to stay for the Floating to Stardom Celebration. More information about the Community Walk and the Floating to Stardom Celebration, as well as our student goal-setting efforts, will be sent home soon.

2 HUEGEL HIGHLIGHTS
Warmly,
Abby Potter-Davis, Huegel [email protected]
We work hard to maintain the Huegel expectations because we know that our best learning happens when they are in place. Our teachers are committed to meeting the learning needs of each student, and we hold high expectations for our students and ourselves. We are very excited to continue to use technology to support teaching and learning at Huegel. Stay tuned for exciting updates about how we are integrating technology into our classrooms!
Finally, I look forward to continue connecting with our most important partner—parents! We have many ways to stay connected, including monthly parent meetings; our Huegel Eagle Facebook page and website; monthly newsletters; multiple family events, such as Movie Night on October 2, Open House on October 6 and the Fall Festival on November 12; and November Parent-Teacher Conferences. My hope is that all families feel welcome at Huegel anytime. The teachers and I are always available by phone or email to answer any questions, and you are always welcome to stop into the office for a visit.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

OBSERVE ALL STREET SIGNS AND OBEY ALL TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN LAWSThe Madison Police Dept. will ticket any parent/caregiver who breaks these laws while dropping off/picking up their child.
• “No Parking” areas allow for drop off or pick up, but you cannot leave your car unattended.
• “No Stopping, Standing or Parking” means just that – student drop off/pick up is NOT allowed.
• The teacher’s parking lot is for staff and wheelchair accessible vans only. It is NOT a drop off, pick up, or turn-around area.
• Parking/Drop Off/Pick up is NEVER allowed in the bus loading/unloading area in front of the school.
Please consult the Traffic Safety Brochure, located in the Huegel office, for more information. Thank you for keeping our students safe!
When your child is going to be absent or sick, please call the Safe Arrival number at 204-3107 and leave your child’s name, reason for the absence, the date and their lunch choice (A, B or cold) if they are coming in late. It is very important that we account for each child each day. You can call any time of day; please call before 8:30 AM on the day your child will be absent.
If you plan to have your child miss school for any reason other than medical (such as family trips), you must submit a Request for Excuse of Planned Absence form available in the school office.
SAFE ARRIVAL
LOST + FOUNDFeel free to stop in anytime to check our Lost and Found. It is located in the same place as it was last year--in the hallway leading to the inner circle, right by the eagle on the wall. It is amazing how quickly items start accumulating there!
