  • Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down?Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down?Thumbs up to the kids and

music program at the three area schools in Litchfield! The District Choral Concert was great, but the final song, Africa, was the best I have heard in my three of years of attending. Teachers, please keep up the great work and continue to challenge the kids while entertaining the audience with some familiar music. All should be proud!

Thumbs down to the hit and run driver who destroyed our mailbox on Musquash Road the night of March 18-19. You had to have been pretty far off the road shoulder to hit it and smash the 4x4 post. Were you drunk, texting or racing another vehicle? You also must have damage to your vehicle. Would have been nice if you had identified yourself by putting a note in the mailbox that was left in the driveway!

Thumbs down to Jason Guerrettes letter to the editor. Yes, Janine Lepore did run a squeaky clean election, but Jason on the other hand ran a campaign of deceit. Candidate Guerrette positioned his signs so they we next to every school related sign in town, same color as a matter of fact. Presumably the intent was to make the public think he supported education (he doesnt). Furthermore, he put an ad in the HLN that had a website that made the reader believe it was put out by the Town of Litchfield (his name was nowhere to be found on it). Same deal with the flyers he sent out.

Thumbs up to my husband! Happy Birthday! Matthew and I love you very much and wish you the best Birthday. Thanks for always taking such good care of me, too.

Thumbs up/Thumbs down. Calling seniors and taxpayers that didnt vote for the raises of unions selfish is really calling the kettle black. Why is it the unions think they are entitled to take money out of some peoples pocket so they can put in their own? How about you union types paying more for healthcare, or giving up vacation time, living on fixed income, and giving that money back to the town. Ill bet you wont vote for because you are the selfish, greedy spoiled babies.

Thumbs up to my loving wife for putting up with a grumpy husband while I have been sick for the last 3 weeks. Additional thanks to Kelly for swinging by and delivering water and crackers.

Thumbs up to Chrissy at Hudson Rec. It is nice to have phone calls answered by a friendly voice when calling a town office.

Thumbs down to all the uneducated voters and non-voters who take to the Thumbs column to complain about election results. Heres a thought, get off your lazy backside and either vote or attend a meeting or two. If you dont want to wait till the next election, heres another free suggestion.

Every single Hudson department has meetings throughout the year, why dont you go attend a few meetings and express your opinion in a manner that might actually get some type of result. Pouting about results in this section gets you nothing but laughs and ridicule.

Thumbs down to NH Democrats, and President Obamas administrations continued failed policies, during their time in office, NH has seen one of the worst declines in businesss that nobody seems to want to mention, weve had so many store closings like Stop and Shop, numerous Shaws stores, now Osram Sylvania, Staples, Lowes, Ruby Tuesday, Radio Shack, talks about cutting back

at Manchester Airport and numerous others on the brink of closing, these are not mom and pop stores these are major box stores that have closed due to failed Democratic policies, wake up NH.

Thumbs up/Thumbs down to the ex-Raytheon worker. Plenty of work out there, but it probably doesnt pay that overpaid Raytheon worker rate.

Just based on friends that work there. 40 years paying taxes and still high mortgage, not good! If your taxes are going up $600-$800, you must have a beautiful home valued at $600,000-$800,000. I am jealous on one hand, yet I live within my means. Hope you are on time paying those overpriced college bills. Time to sell the mansion - LOL!

Thumbs up to the Litchfield School District Music and Arts Festival last week! It was great to see students from all grade levels display their talent. Thank you to all the dedicated teachers that bring out the best in the students of our future.

Thumbs up to Kris and her family for moving to Hudson and finally getting the HLN!

Thumbs down to the person complaining about buses transporting voters on Election Day. Frankly, I cant think of a more appropriate use for public money in a democracy than aiding and assisting voters in their public duty to vote. Democracy works best when everyones voice is heard. Lets expand the system to cover even more people! Making voting easy should be the goal of every town, state and nation. The current political strategy of putting up roadblocks to voting, frightening voters with misinformation, closing polls early and generally making it inconvenient to vote is disgusting and anti-American.

Thumbs down to wrongly referring to 18 and 19 year old young adults as children just to make a political point. How rude!

Thumbs up to the plow guy who helped pushed me out of the Taco Bell Londonderry parking lot on 2/18 after being stuck in the snow for an hour. Thumbs down to the employees who had no customers and just looked out the window at me trying to get out and never offered to help. That is the last time I will ever be in that parking lot for any reason!

Thumbs up. A big thumbs up to the woman who turned in the

lost wedding band at the Hudson Sams Club on Saturday March 22. My husband recently lost 30 pounds and his wedding ring became too big. We were both devastated when we found out that it was gone. We are so grateful and thankful to you for your honesty.

Thumbs down to the Hudson BOS for suggesting another town election and the new budget committee for approving a second election to vote on the town budget. My question is Why even hold elections if you feel you can just redo them until you get the vote you want? If this is what you feel free elections are about ... you might as well just do away with the voting and run our town government as you see fit.

Thumbs down. Mr. Schofield, once again you try and cause trouble in Litchfield. Please accept the fact that no one in town truly wants to listen to anything you have say. I see you sitting by yourself all the time at the Northside Grill, that is because once again know one wants anything to do with you. You have had some good people in your life and now look, they are gone. And now you are all alone, that should tell you something.

Thumbs down to the comment about moving if the contract warrant articles were not passed on March 11. Did you notice that our emergency personnel town contract warrant articles online stated employees would also receive the appropriate step increase during the life of the contract on their anniversary date? This was not disclosed on the warrant articles or article explanation that was sent with the HLN. To be honest with you. Also, read the contract if the contracts were not voted in. The unions would just renegotiate them, as stated in the contract. We wouldnt have lost all our town personnel. Read the contracts in full online.

Thumbs down! Most people were able to afford their home with plenty of money to spare, before the-economy crashed. Well things happen. Residents lost their jobs, no Social Security increases, increased Medical costs, and inflation. Some of the most sought after positions 5 years ago, have no job postings now. People with PhDs and masters degrees cannot find work. Residents couldnt afford the high tax increase every year! So they cut back, by not paying their-taxes. Guess what? The town put a lien on their home with Interest. The town looses revenue and your taxes go up! Next time vote to help yourself and your neighbor.

Thumbs down! Do you think residents can afford these increases? I have friends with PhDs

and masters degrees who cannot find work. I know people with families who work 80 hours a week to make ends meet and seniors who live off $1,000 a month. Who is working to keep our taxes low for these people? Our BOS/HSB approves every pay increase and they are out of touch with the residents. There should not be a pay increases until the majority or residents receive a pay increase.

Thumbs down - If you want to feel good about yourself, pull over to the side of the road and pick up some of the litter thats stuck in the hard snow. If you want to feel really good about yourself, dont throw trash out of your car onto our roadways.

Thumbs up to Litchfields state Reps Frank Byron and Ralph Boehm for having perfect scores on the roll call up at the state house. You cant be represented if your representative is a no-show. Fortunately, this is not a problem for Litchfield.

Thumbs up/Thumbs down. According to the Sword of the Lord newspaper, Planned Parenthood took in 540 million dollars of your tax money during fiscal year ending June 30, 2013. They also report that they are the countrys largest abortion provider, having done 327,166 abortions in this same fiscal year. Sword of the Lord newspaper says this is a tragedy and a moral outrage. I agree.

Thumbs down. Some say Republicans will win in 2016. What record are Republicans running on since 2001? Just what have they done for America and its people? When I think Republican, I remember a loss of surplus, the cost of going to war with the wrong country, leaving folks in hardship and shutting down government at a cost of $24 billion. When I take the Republican side on Bangladesh, I find out Republicans voted down extra security. Republicans have many blunders to be accountable for, and want us to forget. Please help me to forget, and tell me all about the good stuff since January 2001.

Thumbs down to the woman who got out of her car at the stop sign at Ferry and Buswell on Sunday afternoon, 3/23, to walk back to my vehicle to yell at me for beeping my horn. I was stopped at the stop sign for 3-4 minutes behind a vehicle that did not attempt to enter Ferry Street even though there was no oncoming traffic for at least half that time. She told me her daughter was just learning to drive and I could go around if I wanted, although she did not say it nicely. Next thing I know its posted on Facebook and I was the jerk. Like I could possibly know it was a new driver and for a moment I thought it could be a medical emergency. Mom - you did a great job introducing your daughter to your own road rage. Get a professional to teach her how to drive, you clearly are not qualified!

Thumbs up to the principal at Campbell High School. Just because someone is a good coach does not mean he is a good teacher. My son learned nothing in his health class last year. Just because a teacher is supportive, doesnt mean he can teach. Thanks for stepping in.

Thumb down to Chris Pascucci and Tom Schofield. First, please to do not speak for the public, speak for yourself. Your comments on how to run our town need to go away. Mr. Bourque, you need to move on, you can do so much better without Mr. Schofield.

Thumbs up to Theresa L. Briand Town clerk for the Town of Litchfield, NH. Your uncooperative and bad behavior single-handedly gave our great town a Black eye. I get that you are used to getting your own way. Well, both the Secretary of State and the highest ranking law official in the State (the Attorney General) showed you. I truly hope you learn and grow from this. The price we are paying as a community is quite high.

Thumbs down. Way down to our school system. A very respected teacher and coach will be leaving, leaving not by his choice. He is respected by so many parents in the community and students, but not by our administration at Campbell. Coach Levine was only here a short time but the students knew he cared about them. He will be missed next year as a teacher and coach. To those responsible for him leaving, look in the mirror; do you like what you see? You are not here for our kids; you are here for your own agenda! You care only about yourself and not our kids! There is some really bad stuff going on at that school. There should be some major changes made! Who is really running that school? Who is pulling all the strings? You probably do like what you seen in the mirror.

by Cheryl FreedWill winter ever end?

There was an increase in recycling in January followed by a decrease in February. Everyone deserves a pat on the back for making an effort these last two months given the snow and cold. Now that spring has arrived, at least according to the calendar, the Recycling/Energy Committee looks forward to increased recycling numbers.

April Events Saturday, April 5, -- Recycle Electronics with Cub Scout Pack

21This is a good opportunity to clean out your old electronics and

support the Cub Scouts. The boys in Cub Scout Pack 21 will be holding their fi rst annual

Electronics Recycling day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Hudson Recreation Building at 2 Oakwood St., near H. O. Smith School. A wide variety of items will be accepted, for a small fee, for recycling. The recycling will be handled by Recycle USA of Londonderry, a well-known and respected recycler of electronics.

The Cubs will be accepting old computers, digital cameras, air conditioners, humidifi ers, laptops, play systems like old XBOXs, and more. Dont allow these items to pollute our environment. Clean out your basement and garage of old computers and electronics and help the Cub Scouts raise money for Summer Camp. Who doesnt have an old TV, or CD player in a box somewhere?

Here are some of the items being accepted, and their cost: computer $5, monitor $10, fl at panel monitor $6, laptop $5, printer $4, TV (25 inches or smaller) $14, TV (27-32 inches) $25, TV (32 inches and up) $30, air conditioner/dehumidifi er $16. All other items are less than $5 to recycle. For example: CD/DVD player/burner $4, XBOX/

PlayStation/WII $4. (Not acceptable are: full sized appliances, space heaters, and lights/light bulbs.)

If you have questions about what is accepted, please call Kathy at 339-7963.

Cub Scout Pack 21 is based at Hills Garrison School and serves that community of families. They plan to use the proceeds to enable boys to attend summer camp, and to enjoy other outside activities, like hiking and trips. Their website is http://hudson21.mypack.us For additional information on Boy Scouts in the Nashua area, contact Ben Dibble at 880-2077 or Jack Gaylord at 289-0378 or [email protected] Saturday, April 19 Second Annual Recycling/Energy

Silver Knights Manager Says Team Offers Family Fun

    by Len LathropNashua Silver

Knights General Manager Ronnie Wallace was the guest speaker at the Hudson Litchfi eld Rotary Club breakfast meeting on Thursday, March 27. His talk focused on team and league highlights. As members of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, the Silver Knights play at historic Holman Stadium on Amherst Street.

Formed in 2010, the Nashua Silver Knights team, which is owned and operated by the Lowell Spinners, played their inaugural season in 2011 as one of four teams in the league, which now includes Marthas Vineyard Sharks, Seacoast Mavericks, Torrington Titans, Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, Brockton Rox, North Shore Navigators, Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, and Pittsfi eld Suns.

Each franchise of the FCBL is made up of elite collegiate athletes competing in a minor-league-style format. Each franchise provides high-quality, affordable entertainment, in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. The FCBL is summer collegiate baseball at its best! It will be one of the most talented and competitive leagues in the country.

Wallace noted that the Silver Knights was the fi rst team to ever have a fi nancially profi table season playing at Holman in recent years. Wallace related the family entertainment that they offer: on-fi eld entertainment between innings, fi reworks at Friday Night home games, and Thirsty Thursday night dollar drafts.

Sundays feature 2:05 p.m. games, group tickets at $4 per ticket, and many other promotional deals.

GMS Destination Imagination Brings out Students Creative Sides

DI manager serves ice cream sundaes to the happy teams.

submitted by Griffi n Memorial School PTOSix teams from Litchfi elds Griffi n Memorial School recently

competed at a regional Destination Imagination Meet. DI is a problem-solving program requiring students to think creatively as a team to perform tasks and challenges set out by the organization. Teams were put together in the fall and have worked diligently since then developing their solutions, in the form of inventions, skits and circuses.

The kindergarten through second grade Rising Star teams had to design and perform a circus using shapes and balancing things as

their funny and exciting challenge. GMS sent three of these teams to the meet, including The Tiger Icebreakers coached by Sara Morin and Maurissa Fluet, Team Ice cream coached by Dave Walsh and Claire Chew, and the Flying Puppies coached by Tiffeny Mackinnon and Margaret Norton.

The Silly Seven, coached by Mary and Jamie Watt and made up of grade 3-5 students, did the Going to Extremes Technical Challenge where they actually built and used an electromagnet. The Mustache Warriors, coached by Maurissa Fluet and Joshua Wynkoop, and The Darkness, coached by Susan Haley, also competed in the various components of the Going to Extremes

Challenge. All the teams did extremely well as the now two-year old GMS program continues to grow and develop.

The teams gathered for one last time at a fun ice cream celebration where they had one last Instant challenge: create the most interesting ice cream bowl!

Sponsored by the GMS PTO and organized by Maurissa Fluet, the DI students hope to continue building the program, possibly expanding into the middle school next year!

Th e Silly Seven enjoy showing off some of their props at the DI Competition.

DI friends enjoy their ice cream.

Campbells Neild Garners Player of the Year Awardby Marc Ayotte

After winning the D-3 state title last month, the Campbell High girls basketball program has yet another award that reflects their championship season. Lady Cougar Hannah Neild recently was named the D-III Player of the Year for 2013-2014. I got a text from Alex Trevains, recalls Neild as to how she first found out about winning the highest individual honor from her hardwood prowess. The CHS junior was at an AAU practice when she received the text from her friend and fellow captain on the basketball team. I was surprised, usually its awarded to a senior, offered Neild. Officially, the award was presented to Neild by New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization President Gary Noyes during halftime of the D-3/D-4 senior all-star game played at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord on March 22.

Although she constantly works hard on improving her round ball skills and was pleased for the personal recognition of winning the award, Neild has kept her focus since the beginning of the season toward a collective accomplishment; I wanted our team to win the state championship. Head Coach Bobby Allan confirmed Neilds team-oriented approach by recounting her words when he asked her what her personal goals were for the season; I think we can do something special this year, and I want to make my teammates as successful as possible. Allan continued to commend his starting point guard by saying; she is the type of athlete that any coach would be happy to have because she is not only skilled, but she is always looking to make her teammates better.

According to Coach Allan, Neild was named one of the teams four captains because of her court savvy and ability to make smart decisions at the point guard position. Allan continued to sing her praises by elaborating upon some of the talents that led to her being named point guard of the year; Her presence on the court is tough for anyone to match. Its not easy in our division for teams to guard a 5-foot, 10-inch point (guard) who also has great ball handling skills, spectacular vision, can finish around the rim, cool under pressure, and deadly from (the) outside. She has been an integral component to the highly successful girls program which has gone 53-10 while making three final four appearances during her three-year reign as

the teams floor general. Although there is a lot of focus on her when shes on the court,

shes the type of player that wants to get all of her teammates involved, offered Allan, adding; Hannahs ability to see the floor is second to no one. She has the ability to read her teammates movements and find them in the open court. That court awareness resulted in a season total of 126 assists, an average of six per game. In addition to pouring in 292 points on the season, Neild was a force in other aspects of the game as well, pulling down 79 rebounds while recording 19 blocks and being responsible for 94 cases of larceny involving the pumpkin.

But despite showing her well roundedness on the court, Neild is key when shes controlling the offense; She has accepted her role as a ball handler and continues to work on it and gets better day by day, offered Allan. And while distribution of the rock is obviously a necessary element to the point guard position, Neild also showcased deadly shooting accuracy from the floor; 2 Point FG - 69/123 56 percent, 3 Point FG - 47-89 52 percent, while making an impressive 38 of 45 attempts (84%) from the charity stripe.

Not only are her talents many on the basketball court, but Neilds athletic endeavors dont stop there. As a three-year/three-sport star, Neild has found success in two other venues as a member of the 2013 state championship softball team as well as a key component to Coach Bob Gannons highly successful soccer program. Athletic Director John Patterson shared his thoughts on Neilds abilities and accomplishments; she is one of the best all-around female athletes Ive ever been around. (Shes) outstanding in all three sports which is a testimony to her athleticism. While sitting on the Cougar Den bleachers on team photo day, Patterson paused and added; shes one of the best athletes male or female in the 30-plus years Ive been around coaching.

Neilds near 300-point output this season leaves her just 98 shy of the coveted 1,000 career point plateau. While she is destined to enter the CHS record books for that individual scoring accomplishment, her desire to compete and excel will most certainly be a driving force in the Lady Cougars team bid to repeat as state champions.

Campbells Hannah Neild, a 3-sport star for the Lady Cougars, was named the 2013-2014 D-3 Player of the Year for girls basketball
