    Unboxing

    Careully unpack the unit. I it is damaged,please return it to your nearest Tesco store orreplacement. Remember to take your purchasereceipt with you.

    Retain the Quick Start Guide and Saety and legalinormation sheet. I you pass the unit on to a thirdparty make sure you pass on these items.

    We suggest you retain the packaging. I youdispose o it, do so having regard to recyclingregulations in your area.

    Charging

    Plug the USB cable into the USB port on theAC adapter/charger.

    Connect the cable to the micro-USB port on

    the Hudl.

    Check that the mains voltage marked on therating plate o the AC adapter/charger is thesame as the voltage in your area.

    Plug the AC adaptor into an AC outlet andswitch the mains power on.

    Hudl will start to charge.

    You can use Hudl while the charger isconnected.

    Note Hudl will charge very slowly whenplugged into your computer.

    First use

    When you first turn on your Hudl, you will be guidedthrough the set up process. This will help get youstarted and ensure the sofware on your Hudl is upto date.

    The setup process explained.

    Turn on your Hudl by holding down the smallero the two buttons on the side o your Hudluntil the star appears.

    Be aware you may need to hold down the

    power button or a ew seconds.

    Select a Wi-Fi network

    Hudl will list all available Wi-Fi networks.

    Choose your network and enter your Wi-Fipassword.

    Sign in to your Google account or create one.

    Touch the lock icon andslide the circle across tothe unlock icon.

    Security

    You can set a security setting to protect Hudl romunauthorised access. Choose rom ace recognition,a password, a , or a pattern.     How does the touchscreen work?

    The touchscreen is a dual purpose interactivedisplay and input device. No keyboard or mouseis required to open apps or write text.

    When you need to enter text or numbers akeyboard will appear on screen.

    Typing

    You can touch type on the keyboard.

    Voice typing

    You can also enter text by speaking.

    Whenever the icon is displayed you can use yourvoice to enter text instead o using the keyboard.

    The icon will usually be displayed when a qwertykeyboard is available or text entry and also in someapplications. For example, the icon will appearwhen searching the Internet using Google Chrome.

    Touch the icon to activate speech entry.

    Speak slowly and clearly.

    When you pause, your speech will be analysedand the translation will be added to the textbox with an underline.

    A wallpaper is the picture displayed in thebackground o your home screen. You can changethe wallpaper to an image o your choice, one oyour own photographs or one o the preloaded

    wallpapers.

    To change the wallpaper

    Touch and hold the screen in an area wherethere are no app icons.

    The Choose wallpaper pane will open.

    Choose either Galleryto use one o yourown images, Live Wallpapergently moving,preloaded wallpapers or Wallpaperstatic,preloaded wallpapers.

    Launching an app

    To launch an app

    Touch the app icon on the screen.

    The app will launch.

    Apps normally have interactive onscreen instructions that will help youunderstand how to use the app.

    Moving home screen apps

    Getting more apps

    Each person will have different requirements anduses or their Hudl. To personalise your Hudl withthe apps you want you can visit the Google Playstore online and browse or more apps.

    Note You can only visit the Google Play storei you have an active Wi-Fi connection.

    Touch the Google Play app icon on theHome page.

    You will be asked to sign in with a Googleaccount. I you dont have a Googleaccount you can select the option to setone up (there is currently no charge toset up a Google account).

    Once your account is set up you can go sthe shop and choose a category to brows

    Remember to ully explore the pages by dpages up, down and sideways. The categowill ofen be ound by scrolling the pages

    Adding or removing Home screen apps

    You may want to add your regularly used appsrom the All Apps screen to your Home screen orquick access.

    To add an app to your Home apps

    Navigate to the All Apps screen.

    Touch and hold the app icon you want to addto your Home page.

    The app will be added to your Home screen.

    Hudl is bundled with many useul widgets includingquick links to apps that you may use regularly.

    Touch the All Apps icon, located on the Homepage, to view your App and Widget library.

    Adding a widget to your Home screen

    I you find one or more widgets that you like, youcan add them to your home page.

    1 Navigate to widget you want to add.

    You will be taken to the Home screen whereyou can choose the widgets new position.

    Transerring files using Windows Explorer

    For users amiliar with computer file transer, WindowsExplorer can be used to transer media files or oldersto or rom your Hudl. Windows Explorer is also used totranser other files such as documents, spreadsheets

    and ebooks.

    Switch on the computer.

    Open a file browser on your computer.In Windows XP, navigate to My Computer (ClickStart>My Computer). In Windows 7, navigate toComputer (Click the Windows logo> Computer)

    Connect the USB cable (supplied) to your Hudl.

    Connect the other end o the cable to aconvenient USB port on your computer.

    On your computer, browse to the list o drives.You will see your Hudl in the drive list.

    Note When a micro-SD card is in youwill appear as a separate drive. to open the Hudl drive and yougroup o olders.

    Browse to the olders or files you want tocopy rom your computer and drag them

    onto a older to upload them.

    In the example, music albums are beingdragged onto the Music older on Hudl.The process is the same or other typeso file, but the destination older will bedifferent.

    You can create new olders on Hudl toorganise your documents, spreadsheets etc.,

    To step back through pages you have recentlyvisited, touch Back in the toolbar at the

    Hudl is bundled with a YouTube app. This allowsyou to search or video content and also to upload

    You can browse to your avourite social nwebsites by launching Google Chrome, n

    To use email you will need to set up your emailaccount on Hudl.

    Once your email account is set up you can send

    and receive email to the contacts you choose.

    You can set up and use one or more email accountsrom Hudl.

    You will always need to have a Wi-Fi connection toset up or use email.

    I already have an email account

    Most users will have an existing email accountwhen setting up an Internet connection at home.

    I this is not the case you may also have created aGoogle identity or the Google Play store whichcomes with a gmail.com email address.

    Either o the above email addresses will be suitableto set up an email account.

    password or your account beore starting.

    I you dont have an email account, you cathe Internet to find a suitable email servic

    and set up an account. Once you have seemail account you will have an email addrlogin password.

    From the Home Page.

    Touch the Email app icon.

    I an email account has not been set up yet,the Account setup screen will appear.

    Enter your email address as requested.Ensure that all characters are entered correctlyand that you are not using capital letters.

    Press Nexton the keyboard when you are ready.The cursor will move to the Password line.

    Enter the password. Make sure that capitalletters and numbers are entered correctly.

    Press Doneon the keyboard.You can now touch Manual setupto choose toset up your email account manually or touchNextto set the account up automatically.

    For automatic setup, touch Next.Hudl will now check the settings. I thsettings are correct, you will see the options screen.

    Set the options as you want them.

    1 Check and re-enter the details you have used whenprompted.

    I you receive the same message a second time, thereis no point to continue setting up the account as yourlogin details may not be right.

    2 Make a note o the inormation reported as incorrect,then contact your email service provider and askthem to send you login or server details that willenable you to set up your account. I the problem

    Once you have downloaded some music files rom thestore or uploaded some rom your computer, they willbe available to play.

    Navigate to the All applications screen.

    Touch the Play Music icon.

    On first use you will be invited to set up aGoogle Play account. When you have completedthis stage, the Music index screen will open.

    You can now choose to browse your music library

    or playlists, choose albums or tracks rom thelibrary and play them.

    Note The music library will only display musicalbums and tracks that are in one o thecompatible, playable ormats o MP3, WAV,APE, OGG or FLAC.

    Dual cameras

    Hudl has two cameras, one on the back panel andone orward-acing positioned above the screen.

    Both cameras can be used or taking photos.The screen mounted camera can also be usedor video phone calls and messaging (suitableapplications will be required).

    Taking a panorama photo

    A Panorama photo will capture a very wide angle,allowing you to swing the camera slowly as thephoto is composed.

    Open the camera application.

    Touch the Panorama mode icon.

    Set the camera view at the lef o theimage you want to capture.

    When you are ready to take the photo,press the shutter button.

    Holding steadily at a constant height,watch the screen and rotate yourposition slowly and steadily to the rightto capture the panorama.

    Making a video

    Open the camera application.

    Set to Video mode.

    The shutter button will change to red.

    Zoom to fit the picture by stretching orpinching with your fingers on the screen.

    Hold steady and level. Making sure yourfingers are clear o the lens on the back cover,

    touch the shutter button to start recording.

    Video and sound will start recording.

    Touch the shutter button again to stoprecording.

    You can also change settings or videos.

    You can use the Gallery app to watch photos andvideos filmed with the camera or copied rom yourcomputer.

    The Gallery screen will open. The screen will showyou albums available including photos and videostaken by the built-in camera, those in the internalmemory and those on a micro-SD card (when fitted).

    Touch an album to browse photos and videosstored in the album.

    The photos will be displayed as a screen othumbnails. I there are several screens o thumbnailsyou can slide them across to browse them.

    The clock application will continue to run whilst Hudlsleeps.

    When your Hudl is battery powered, the display willswitch off and conserve battery lie. I the chargeris connected, the display will stay lit so you cancontinue to see the clock display.

    HDMI display port. You can connect a TV ordisplay monitor to the HDMI port.

    You will need a cable (not supplied), terminatedwith a micro-HDMI connector at one end and a

    connector suitable or your TV at the other.

    Connect the micro-HDMI cable to the port onthe top o Hudl.

    Connect the other end o the cable to the TV/monitor. The TV/Monitor should auto-selectthe signal rom Hudl and switch to display thescreen content. I not, you will need to selectthe correct input manually.
