Troubleshooting - Creating new print queue

Scenario 1

After creating new print queue, it doesn’t map to the bridge server or

show up in users Citrix session

– 1. Check if the print queue is being published to the bridge servers via the UP

Management console

– 2. If Type is set to Local instead of Published Local in Uniprint Management

Console, Restart the Print Spooler service.

– 3. If restarting the Print Spooler does not resolve the issue, recreate the Print Queue

as follows:

• Log onto the UP Bridge Server: open up UP Management Console

• Under the Printers section, right click on the print queue and delete the printer. This only

removes the print queue from the Bridge Server, not the Print Server

• Open up REGEDIT and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers.

• Find and delete any keys matching the name you just deleted from the UP Management

Console.

Troubleshooting – Setting Default/Missing trays

Scenario 2:

User is not able to set his/her default printer or user is missing Trays

– 1. Recreate users .XML File (this holds users default configuration settings)

– 2. Navigate to the regional bridge server C:\Program Files\UniPrint

Suite\Console\Config

– 3. Look for first.lastname_settings and rename to .old

– 4. Have user refresh UP and print to recreate the config file


Troubleshooting - Secure Print JobsScenario 3:

Testing/Creating VPQ Print Queue/jobs (secure print Jobs)

– 1. Log into the regional citrix server that is using secure print and print to VPQ print

queue

– 2. From IT or Ctx Desktop, go to \\edcv-app-uppXX\c$\Program Files\UniPrint

Suite\Services\Data\QueueJob

• (XX will be the bridge server assignment, in the example above, log into edcv-app-upp08)

Testing/Creating VPQ Print Queue/jobs (secure print Jobs)

– 3. Open .pdf file with adobe to see if the job hits the queue

– 4. Pause Printing (Pause the print queue users are trying to do a secure print from

the Print server)



To test VPQ print job process with a test account, see steps below

– a. Open vPad Emulator on Ctx server that has UP client installed from \\it-

data\software\Uniprint_Infinity\CLIENTS\vPad Emulator\Secureprint.exe,

• enable Vpad if it is disabled

• In UP management console, click securePrint,

• enable > right click on blank space and add the printer you are testing.



To test VPQ print job process with a test account, steps cont.

– b. Select “Connect to server @ IP:Port” and enter IP address of the Regional Print

Server and port #.

• Port number is always 10208.

– c. Tap Apply to save configuration.

– d. You won’t be able to proceed until the device is enabled




– e. Click on SecurePrint module (Left Side) and navigate to the Root folder (Right

Side).

• Any newly configured and connected vPads will always show up under the Disabled section.




– f. Drag the disabled vPad, into the Regional folder.

• If configuring Secure Printing for a new region, right click on the Root folder

• Select New Folder and name it after the Region.

• This example, shows the disabled vPad moved into the “vPad Emulator” folder.




– g. Navigate to the Regional folder,

• Right-Click on the Disabled vPad

• Select Add Printers




– h. A list of printers from print servers that are communicating with the Bridge Server

will show

• vPads can be configured 1:1 (1 vPad to 1 print device) or 1:many (1 vPad to many printing

devices).

• vPads are strategically assigned a location within the office, the local contact should provide

the printing assignment for each vPad. This will allow users to walk up to the vPad and

release the print job to a nearby printer.




– i. Once the Printers are assigned to the vPad, • Right-Click on the vPad

• Select Enable

– j. With secure printing, users will be printing to a UniPrint VPQ (Virtual Print Queue). • Jobs that are sent to the UniPrint VPQ are stored on the Bridge Server until the print job(s) is

released by the vPad.




– k. Enter username that sent the secure print job

• click on the name

– l. Select the print job and print.

• A list of available printers will show




– m. Any Printers added in the vPad Emulator will show up

– n. Confirm once the job is released, and it hits the Print Queue of the chosen printer.


Troubleshooting - Print job: unknown error

Scenario 4:

“The Print job reported an unknown error” when user try to print in Uniprint

– 1. Restart print Spooler on Print server

Swapping Print Drivers



Here are the steps to properly swap out printer drivers on Uniprint.

– This ensures the Uniprint UPD on the XenApp/XenDesktop images recognizes the

new driver and allows the print job to process correctly.

– This workflow addresses the issue where if a user selects a “Source” tray, it will pull

paper from another tray.

After swapping out print drivers on a print queue, follow these steps:

BRIDGE SERVER

– 1. Log onto the UP Bridge Server: EDCV-APP-UPP04

• Open UP Management Console



BRIDGE SERVER, cont.

– 2. Under the Printers section, right click on the print queue

• Delete the printer

• This only removes the print queue from the Bridge Server, not the Print Server

– 3. Open REGEDIT

• Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers

• Find and delete any keys that have the same name as the print queue just deleted from the UP

Management Console.



PRINT SERVER

– 1. Log onto the UP Print Server where the print queue resides

• Open UP Management Console

– 2. Navigate to Printers

• Right click on the print queue

• Select Publish



PRINT SERVER, cont.

– 3. Select Yes

• 4. Select Publish

Configuring Printer Profiles



UniPrint drivers do not allow users to directly modify finishing options such as

stapling and hole punching.

– These options are configured by the administrator on the print server.

– 1. Launch Management Console from the print server.

• Click on Printer Profiles.

• For the profile(s) to apply to all printers with the same driver, right-click on the driver (in the

middle pane)

• select “New Profile”

• To apply the profile(s) to only a single printer, expand the driver

• Right-click on the printer

• Select “New Profile”



– 2. Enter Name and Description.

• Make sure that Description is detailed as much as possible

• Users will refer to this information for choosing the appropriate finishing options
