The Middle East’s ICT industry is growing at a phenomenal rate. Even with the disruptions caused by COVID-19, ICT infrastructure and the development of new smart solutions has remained a priority throughout the region, given the immense benefits of technology in the fight against novel coronavirus. While investment in ICT infrastructure is essential at this stage, so is investment in developing talent to maintain and even propel the region’s digital agenda. Huawei’s CSR efforts have focused on fostering the talent ecosystem in the Middle East for several years now, in an effort to build a well-qualified workforce that possess the right knowledge and understanding to contribute to ICT development, while closing the digital divide.

Charles Yang, President of Huawei Middle East

Developing talent who can contribute to the growth of the Middle East’s digital economy is a core focus of Huawei. As a region that has a predominantly young and digitally-savvy population, there is immense potential to cultivate a new generation of ICT leaders, who will, through their contributions to the ICT ecosystem, enable economic growth and society development in their countries and beyond. Huawei considers this to be equally as important as developing technology itself, and therefore we have entered into a number of partnerships with public and private sector entities, as well as educational establishments, to develop tailored ICT training programs specifically to nurture local talent throughout the region.

Liam Zhao, President of Huawei Gulf North

Throughout years of investment in the development of Kuwait’s ICT talent ecosystem, Huawei has unearthed some exceptional young minds and provided training to hundreds of individuals. Our aim is to equip the next generation of ICT leaders in Kuwait with the necessary skills to succeed in various ICT-related fields. We have done this in partnership with several public and private sector entities, as well as through the launch of annual programs such as Seeds for the Future and the ICT Competition, and the ongoing Huawei ICT Academy. Huawei provides quality courses and support services to universities in Kuwait that assists to train teachers, establish and optimize ICT majors, improve the curriculum and build standard labs – all of which contribute towards developing innovative and application-oriented technical talent for Kuwait’s society, and the global ICT industry.

Voice of Customers

"CAIT is advocating remote learning during pandemic period. CAIT and Huawei's initiative for Huawei online learning platform showed our responses to the pandemic challenge and our support for the IT talents in government sectors. We hope that this partnership will let the government employees get exposed to the latest technologies of Cloud Computing, AI, Big Data, Storage and other IT infrastructures. By online learning and granting the professional certificates from Huawei, we hope to empower the government employees in Kuwait with the abilities to adapt to the rapid-chaning technological trends for their future career success."

Haya AL-Wadani Director General of the Central Agency for Information and Technology (CAIT)

“Our partnership with Huawei Technologies Kuwait will stimulate the advancement of technology for the benefit of society, research and enterprise in Kuwait. Moreover, it will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and hands-on experience in order to create a cohesive society in which everyone benefits equally.”

Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin Director General of Kuwait foundation for the advancement of sciences(KFAS)

“Huawei is a global player in the area of communications and information technology which is the main area of our degree programs at Kuwait College of Science and Technology. Therefore, we value the partnership with Huawei highly through the Huawei ICT Academy which will give a world-class opportunity for our students to become more equipped with the technological skills in order to contribute a brighter future for Kuwait”.

Professor Khalid Al-Begain President of the Kuwait College of Science and Technology

Investing in Youth is Investing in the Future

Cumulative organizational efforts are being made to develop the youth of Kuwait. His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, said: “I urge you to focus on nurturing the youth and to provide them with employment opportunities and all other fundamentals of a decent life, in

Abdul Rahman Badah Al-MutairiGeneral Director of the Youth Public Authority

addition to promoting their positive participation and constructive role in serving and developing society, for they are the source of inspiration and the foundation of hope.”

Vision 2035 aims to transform Kuwait into a financial and commercial center for investment and to achieve the highest possible level of development. One of the most basic pillars of this is “attaining a creative human capital” as well as better equipping the youth for them to become competitive and productive members of a national workforce. The Youth Public Authority has always regarded the youth as a source of true wealth for the nation in order to prepare, empower, protect and qualify young people by channeling their energies and talents.

The ‘Partnership with Huawei’ is one of the most important technical investments. It is a rich experience as it will have a permanent impact with time. It paves the way for youth participation and creates new opportunities for them. This project brings new hope, love for work, and it offers support, eliminates barriers, and provides new opportunities. It is a model for different authorities to replicate, enabling a tangible change in society.

Every end is a new beginning, and through this partnership, new opportunities have been presented to develop the capabilities of young Kuwaitis in the field of technology. It has provided new intellectual fields and multiple paths for future work, which contributes to enhancing the ability of the youth to compete in the labor market and provides them with the tools that qualify them to do so. It is what invites us all to think, evaluate and build upon this experience in a multitude of ways.

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to all those, both inside and outside Kuwait, who have contributed and offered their support and time to develop and launch this partnership in a way that suits both organizations and their rich historic of innovations and achievements.

May peace be upon you and God bless you.

Seeds for the Future, Teacher Voices

“It is a privilege to be one of the participants in Huawei’s excellent program (Seeds for the Future). The students and I were pleased by Huawei hospitality since day 1 in Beijing, I am speechless in front of Huawei’s generosity in financing our trip. But we academic people see it as an excellent investment in the young talent engineers in order to prepare them to the outward working field. Many thanks to Huawei”

Dr. Muna Al Basman Assistant Professor | Kuwait University

“Since 2017, we have been privileged to partner with Huawei and collaborate closely on different projects - ICT Skill Competition and Seeds for the Future. We have worked very hard to promote these projects for our students and alumni. Our combined efforts resulted in great outcomes.

Our college had the largest number of participants in both projects on a yearly basis and won the best Academy Award in China among all the other universities in Kuwait. Our students and alumni won the top prizes regionally and traveled to China to compete internationally, representing Kuwait in the competition. As a result, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Huawei and our School of Engineering.

We are really thankful to Huawei for offering such great learning opportunities to our students and alumni and we look forward to continuing our collaboration and exploring new opportunities together.”
