ABUS electric chain hoist
For reliable lifting from 80 kg to 4 t.
Safety pillar base
The specially designed pillar basewith precisely welded ribs and inter-nal support ring ensures safety andstability.
Because the whole is simply worthmore than the sum of its parts,it also pays to take a close look atthe performance features and costadvantages of ABUS extras, com-ponents and accessories.
14
The pillar jib crane LS is typicallyused for lifting tasks that are mostlyin the lower capacity range. As shown here in the example oftransmission and engine manufac-ture, the load can be quickly andsafely raised and e.g. set down ona pallet. The high lifting speed of12 m/min with the electric chainhoist also contributes to efficientwork performance. The crane ismounted on the existing base plateby means of an intermediate steelplate.
The wall jib crane LW is an unobtru-sive and reliable aid when it comesto moving lighter loads by hand. Itslightweight design allows it and itsload to be guided quickly and preci-sely even at longer jib lengths. Thisis an effective aid to daily operation– as in this case in the picking areafor packaging machines. This crane is mounted with a brak-ket on the building support column. The brackets fit around the sup-ports, even those with large cross-sections, to bring the crane to thedesired height.

The advantages of the pillar jib crane LSX are evident in workpla-ces with restricted room heights, ascan be seen here in the measuringroom for components of machinetools. Due to its special construc-tion with the raised jib arm, a goodlift height can be reached even withlow ceilings. Jib arm and hoist arelocated at a safe distance awayfrom the area in which the operatormoves. The crane is mounted bymeans of a steel dowel plate withspecial floor dowels conforming tothe permissible dynamic loads.
Low ceilings and additional requiredfloor clearance are typical criteriafor selecting the LWX wall jib crane. Its low space requirements andpracticable lift height make a strongargument in its favour. The continuously controllableABUCompact GMC provides parti-cularly delicate lifting and settingdown of the load at this assemblystation. The wall bracket included in thedelivery is used to mount the craneon a steel support in the room’swall.

Used in the assembly of road con-struction machines, this VS pillarjib crane moves larger loads thatcan no longer be safely and con-veniently moved by hand. The crane is therefore equippedwith electric, 2-speed drives for thetrolley and slewing. Operation isindependent of the load positionwith mobile pendant controls thatmove parallel to the jib arm, simpli-fing handling and ensuring saferworking. The crane is securely anchored to abase foundation.
This crane is required in tank andcontainer construction for transportof loads between work levels of dif-ferent heights. The design of thewall jib crane VW enables the givenbuilding dimensions to be used tothe fullest, so that the transfer ofthe load is achieved at the highest possible lift height. The crane haselectric, 2-speed trolley and slewing drives, without which thedesired movements of the loadwould be practically impossible.Weld-on plates are used to mountthe crane directly on the steel supports of the building.

Plates and steel components ofvarying size and weighing up to 5 tare required in mould and die pro-duction. With the pillar jib crane VS,these can be reliably moved. With electric, 2-speed trolley andslewing drives equipped as stan-dard, the crane can be easily ope-rated via the freely movable controlunit with the pendant controls. The cone-shaped pillar tip allowsthe smallest possible approachdimension to the the pillar evenwith high loads. The crane is solidly mounted on alarge-sized base foundation withanchor rods.
Tight installation conditions, highload capacities and a precisemovement of the load into thetool machine characterise thisapplication example. The optimisa-tion of the lift height at 3.2 t isachieved through the use of anABUS electric wire rope hoist. Two-speed control of electricallydriven movements in all directionsenables delicate handling of work-pieces and equipment. The crane ismounted with weld-on plates at theback on the additionally placedsupport structure.

Mountings for Pillar Jib CranesA question of standpoint
Intermediate plate on a concrete floor
Using a square intermediate plate, the crane can bemounted on a suitable existing concrete floor. After thefloor plate has been drilled and chiselled out, anchorsare inserted and cast. ABUS delivers the intermediateplate and, on request, the appropriate floor anchors.
Foundation block with anchor bolts
The currently most regularly requested type of moun-ting for pillar jib cranes uses anchor rods. These arepositioned within a concrete foundation block. ABUS delivers the anchors and a steel template forpositioning and aligning the anchor box as well as therequired information for pouring a foundation with reinforcement in accordance with DIN 1045-1.
Foundation with ABUS ideal anchors
ABUS ideal anchors offer an intelligent mounting alter-native whenever the later site of the crane is to remainfreely walkable and drivable for the time being. Thetwo-part anchor rods are connected to each other withsleeves. The sleeves are flush with the floor surfaceand are protected by cover caps. To mount the crane, threaded bolts are screwed intothe sleeves.
Intermediate plate on a concrete suspended ceiling
Alternatively, the intermediate plate can be mounted toa suitable concrete ceiling with through-wall anchors.ABUS delivers the intermediate plate and, on request, the appropriate through-wall anchors.
Dowel plate on a concrete floor/a concrete ceiling
LS and LSX cranes are particularly efficient with ourdowel mounting system. This system uses Fischer dowels, especially developed for dynamic loads, whichare fitted into the countersunk holes of the round dowelplate during install. ABUS delivers the dowel plate, the required dowels as well as a mould ring for thegrouting.
Alignment and underpouring Safety while working requires the careful alignment of a crane prior to initial operation. The existing floors are not always level enough to ensurethis. All mounting systems of our pillar jib cranes therefore offer the necessary room for adjustment through an assembly gap. The subsequentgrouting of the crane ensures stability.
19
!Structural inspection of the buildingJib cranes transfer forces and torque to the building and supporting structures. Safe crane operation depends entirely on the adequate checking ofthe support structure by a structural engineer.
Moving on up.crane systems
On reinforced concrete walls or supports using weld-on plates
Concrete walls or supports can be prepared for the mounting of wall jibcranes on weld-on plates through suitable mounting plates with groutedanchoring as a substructure. When performing this construction work, care should be taken that the mounting plates lie exactly flush and exhibitplumb-vertical connection surfaces. The weld-on plates are welded to thesubstructure. The wall bracket or the wall mountings of the crane are bolted onto the weld-on plates. ABUS delivers the weld-on plates with therequired mounting screws.
On steel supports using weld-on plates
Weld-on plates can be welded directly onto steel supports or load-bearingsteel structures providing holes will not or cannot be drilled through them.(not pictured)
On reinforced concrete supports using brackets
On structurally suitable, square or rectangular reinforced concrete supportswhich can be freely enveloped, wall jib cranes can be mounted with brackets. The required tension forces can be applied through threadedrods to hold the crane securely to the support at the desired height. The support must have the required minimum width for this. ABUS deliversbrackets designed for the support dimensions, together with the requiredmounting material.
On steel supports using wall bracket/mounting
The simplest type of mounting of wall jib cranes is the bolting onto existingsteel supports. For this, the supports must be of structurally sufficient size(they may need to be reinforced) and exhibit a sufficiently wide connectionsurface. All ABUS wall jib cranes include this mounting option in the scopeof delivery of standard equipment. For types LW and LWX this is providedthrough the wall bracket and for type VW through direct bolting on of bothwall mountings.
On reinforced walls using wall brackets and through-wall anchors
For mounting on reinforced concrete walls of adequate load-bearing capacity, wall brackets are used. For the types LW and LWX, the wall bracket is included in the scope of delivery. For the type VW, it is availableas optional equipment. The wall brackets are mounted on the wall with tiesand counterplates. Included in the ABUS scope of delivery are the anchorrods, counterplates and the required mounting materials, all adapted forthe respective wall thickness.

ABUS HoistsPowerhouses for more than just jib cranes
ABUS electric wire rope hoists GMThe ABUS electric wire rope hoistsGM cover the essential load rangefrom 1 to 100 tonnes. Five basicmodels are available, all with mainand precision lifting speeds asstandard equipment.
ABUS electric chain hoistsAmong the powerhouses of theABUS jib cranes are the ABUSelectric chain hoists ABUCompact. The hoists of the ABUS chain hoistgeneration ABUCompact are distin-guished by a fresh design and con-vincing technical features. In con-nection with jib cranes, the chainhoists GM2, GM4, GM6 and GM8with 3 Ph/400 V offer reliable powerpacks for load capacities to 4 t in aparticularly low headroom designfor optimum utilisation of space. They also boast a precision liftingfunction for careful raising andlowering of sensitive goods.
The smaller GMC rounds out theABUCompact series. A continuouslift speed for 100 or 200 kg, and thefact that it is delivered ready forconnection to a 230 V socket, makes it the ideal chain hoist forflexible application in lifting lighterloads. The modular construction of motorand gear units opens the stage fora comprehensive range of productswith lift speeds of up to 20 m/minor FEM classifications to 4 m – at apersuasive price. In addition, there are advantagesthat are especially appreciated inpractice: minimal maintenance
work required due to especiallydurable brake linings (in normalcases, 1 million full load brakingsuntil the first readjustment), lifetimelubrication of precision gear units, adjustable slipping clutch, speciallyhardened low-wearing chain, plugconnectors for safe mounting orinspection, and much more. For more information, please referto our product brochure “ABUSElectric Chain Hoists”.
