Hobart Technology Enable (HTe) Scale Management is a software application that can centrally manage HT Series devices in a wired/wireless network. The application software is developed by ITW Hobart, Inc. copyright © 2014. HTe Scale Management application has been designed to be intuitive and easy to create, edit, and delete data found in your HT Series asset(s) within your store network.

HTe Business can be used to manage all aspects of the HT Series devices. HTe Business has limited legacy support (Quantum, Ultima, HLX, Access) but can help convert PLU data from Quantum to HT Series. It can backup and restore all scale data. It uses two modes of data transfer through tagged based (port 6000) and SSH fi le transfer (port 22, 5076). HTe can schedule updates and include multiple types of data. In addition, multiple PLU batches can be built with one chosen for scheduled delivery.

Data that is normally sent through as tagged based (i.e. PLU, expanded text, label types, graphics, nutridata, cool, fl ashkeys, confi guration, etc.) is also supported by products developed by Invatron (E-plum) (Figure 1) and ADC (I-Scale) (Figure 2). This data is normally sent through these tools (such as PLU updates). However HTe can play an integral role in the development and deployment of key data (label types, operator ID’s, & confi guration) to devices.

Downloading and implementation of firmware updates

HTe also supports downloading and implementation of fi rmware updates, Media Files (audio, images, layouts, playlists, and videos), planograms, urgent messaging, and product images. This data is sent through SSH (Port 22, 5076) which provides secure access for down-loading large data. This functionality will essentially fi ll the gap from the third-party scale management software tools.

HTe Business also has included a label designer (Figure 3)

and a fl ashkey editor (Figure 4) for the HT Series devices. You can see the Assets info and pull the “health log” from each scale.

HTe Enterprise can schedule or select immediately through context menu for selecting package file to send.

• HTe will download the HTi project using Secure Copy (SCP) direct to the scale (port 5076).

• The number of scales to be updated can vary from one to hundreds.

• The SCP module will queue up all the scales to be updated and manage the pool to prevent overloading the network.

HTe Enterprise provides many new features that are new to managing assets:

• Compliance Checking – Scales can be identifi ed as non-compliant (out of sync).

+ Import master fi le into HTi category to compare and verify compliance.

• Confi guration Update – Ability to update the confi guration details on the HTi.

+ Package Download – Ability to select one of the package fi les to send to the HT scales.

+ Scheduled Refresh – Supports a scheduled refresh of ALL scales that have a red cross in the in-sync icon.

• Firmware & Features Update – Ability to send Hobart Feature and Firmware modules/packages to the scales.

• Asset View and Scale Information – Ability to view the “statistics” and confi guration of a Hobart scale.

+ Retrieve Statistics – Fetch ALL the fi elds, rather than individual selection. All fi elds will therefore be displayed in multiple sub-tabs on the screen.

+ Compliance Status – Shows the in-sync status (Figure 7), the left icon on the Scale Network View.

• Package Builder – Built with HTe Business - Department Master packages for comparison and compliance.

These features can be used in conjunction with third party scale management software for the PLU updates however, HTe Enterprise will do the compliance checking and resolution for items assigned for it to validate which can include PLU records.

Remote Scale Access – Ability to open a separate session with a particular scale. Can change scale PLU and confi gurations within this application and provide diagnostics.

HTe has been designed to be intuitive and easy to create, edit, and delete data found in your assets within your store network. The application presents a minimal set of screens with tabbed screens to quickly get to the data you need to manage. The application will constantly evolve to meet new asset data management as well as support for new Hobart devices.

Previous Hobart products such as Data GateWeigh and the Hobart Communications Tools (HCT) and other third-party solutions have provided niche areas of data management, however, with the advent of new asset content such as high defi nition customer advertising videos and complex scale technology and larger upgrade requirements. HTe Device Management is the tool to meet these new requirements of the HT Series feature set.

HTe enables support for functionality that cannot be provided through other solutions. Support for label designer, fl ashkey editor, confi guration modifi cation, alerts, and advertising/media management are a unique set of tools. Also, the ability to upgrade Hobart devices, install new applications, and make confi guration changes are key support options in managing your Hobart fl eet with the ever-changing business initiatives.

Device Management for Risk Mitigation – Deployment, Risk Mitigation, & Solutions

Hobart devices are designed to withstand the rigors and security of the retail market. The ever-increasing growth of Hobart devices being used for multipurpose solutions have driven the need for enhanced content management, deployment of new features/apps, and overall device management solutions. As these devices have become more effi cient to respond to business initiatives, they also utilize an improved networking advantage to bring better productivity in the retail market. As new programs being deployed through HT devices have increased, so too have the concerns for the data integrity and overall freshness of that data. Consistency of the fl eet has become more critical with the new features becoming a staple for a new process answering business initiatives.

The potential pitfalls of weekly sales promotions becoming outdated can be a costly situation. Costs could include offering the item with the wrong published price for free or at least at the discount rate.
