How to Identify LCD Version

Which Version Do I Need? On the HTC Evo 4G there are two (2) versions
of LCD screens available – “Normal” flex and “Wide” flex
You will need to determine which LCD your device uses PRIOR to ordering a replacement screen.
The most reliable way of determining your LCD version is to open your device and remove the back housing, exposing the motherboard. All other methods of determining LCD version have proven to be unreliable.
Things you’ll need
To determine the LCD version you will need to partially disassemble your device
Plastic Pry Tools
Torx T5 Screwdriver
Ruler

Disassembly - Step 1
Be sure the Evo 4G is powered off
Remove the battery cover, battery & memory card
Remove the 6 (six) Torx T5 Screws located in the picture
*Note that these screws are all the same size
Disassembly - Step 2
Remove the back cover using a pry tool or Nylon Spudger. Work your way around the outside edges releasing all the clips holding the housing in place.
Be careful of the volume button coming out of the frame, put this to the side for re-assembly
Locating the LCD Flex
The LCD Flex Cable is located the bottom most flex cable located on the side of the motherboard. There may be tape covering this connector.
Gently remove this tape and lift the black tab on the side of the connector and release the flex cable from its socket.
Determining LCD Flex Version
Use your ruler to measure the connector. There is a large difference in size, so this should be easy enough to determine. Wide = approximately* .5 inches, Normal = approximately* .25 inches
Normal Flex =
Roughly ¼”
Wide Flex = Roughly
½”
