Feature Overview

Rel’8 feature co-existing with DC HSDPA in DL

2 E-DCH carriers 1) Primary and 2) Secondary carriers

UL data transmitted in 2 adjacent 5 MHz carriers – Dual cell operation

Data rate gets doubled as Bandwidth is doubled (10MHZ)

Always in dedicated mode for PS

Independent E-DCH scheduling

Rel’8 UE with one or two amplifiers accordingly

High data rates and capacity gain

What Spec says ?

Physical layer configuration

COPYRIGHT © 2013 ALCATEL-LUCENT. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ALCATEL-LUCENT — INTERNAL PROPRIETARY — USE PURSUANT TO COMPANY INSTRUCTION

Physical layer configuration Cont…….

• Support of 2ms TTI

• DL and UL Power control performed on each carrier

• HS-DPCCH present only on Primary carrier

• For corresponding UL, there exists E-AGCH, E-RGCH, E-HICH and F-DPCH in DL

• Each E-DCH transport channel has its corresponding UL and DL signaling

• HS-SCCH orders are used to ACT/DACT Secondary in both UL and DL and are mutually exclusive

MAC and RLC Layer configuration• Mac-i/is supported

• In UE, MUXing and TSN are common to both the carriers except HARQ

• Mac-I does HARQ, De-MUX in nodeB while Mac-is does Re-ordering

• Flexible RLC is supported in UL and DL

Scheduling mechanism

Scheduled transmissions can be sent on both the UL carriers

Resources allocation is done on both the carriers through AG and RG

One primary E-RNTI and one Secondary E-RNTI per configured Freq

Happy bits are transmitted per ACT. UL Freq

TSIG and T_SING timers are used by UE during Periodic Scheduling

UE shall not hold the AG/RG once the secondary carrier is DACT

RRC layer configuration

• Both carriers maintain an Independent E-DCH Active set and R99 Active set as well

• UE shall perform the Intra frequency measurements with events 1A,1B,1C, 1D etc

• Both the carriers should belong to the same nodeB

• RL failure and Physical channel failure are dealt as in Rel8 and secondary carrier is deactivated up on encountering this

Feature Implementation in ALU

Baseband board: eCEM or eCEM-U with schedulers being hosted in the same board

Controller board: xCCM/E1 MDA or xCCM/GE MDA or eCCM

NIP Iub is the first priority, Hybrid Iub is the second priority, pure ATM interface is not required

RF : same as DC-HSDPA in 2100 MHz band

RNC : DCPS or eDCPS

Available on both MBA (3C-HSDPA) and SBA (Modem capable of supporting 2 carriers)

In MBA, DL can be either 3C or DC, but in UL there is a restriction for DC-HSUPA w.r.t UL Max Bitrates. If the usage is below the threshold, DC UL can’t be sued

Users are selected based on TC/ARP/THP

Drawbacks and Recommendations

Drawbacks:

Doubles the Baseband consumption in terms of CE and E-DCH connections

Throughput degradation at Cell-Edge

Cell radio capacity decrease due to power overhead induced by secondary carrier

Higher control plane load induced at RNC and NodeB due to independent E-DCH active set on both carriers

Drawbacks and Recommendations cont…….

Recommendations:

Limit the no. of secondary carriers per user (configurable N<=4)

Secondary activated only if the UE has higher UL activity and is not power limited

Serving NodeB initiates secondary cell activation or deactivation by making use of HS-SCCH orders which ensures 15 DC HSUPA calls can be configured with DC-HSUPA per eCEM with atmost 4 being given secondary carrier

RNC has no view of resource allocation till LR15. So RNC gets an error from NodeB if it tries to allocate resources for more than 15 DC HSUPA calls per modem

Customer RequirementsRequirement ALU Response

Support of 15 DC-HSUPA calls with 4 secondary carriers per eCEM

Partially compliant

NodeB and RNC should support required configuration in 2100MHZ band Compliant

User regression TPUT and Cell radio capacity decrease should be prevented when the UE is power limited

Dynamic HS-SCCH ACT/DACT not done in PH1

Cell capacity optimization by ACT/DACT of Dual carrier Dynamic HS-SCCH ACT/DACT not done in PH1

2 E-DCH connections should be considered for UE configured with DC-HSUPA i.e., in MBA, one E-DCH resource taken from each modem

Compliant

General Requirement ALU Response

Mobility procedures w.r.t iMCTA, Reconfigurations (DC <-> SC) during SHO

Compliant

User priority based on TC/ARP/THP and UL MBR Compliant

Soft Congestion interaction Dependency on the same

3C-HSDPA interaction Not considered in PH 1

Performance and capacity Requirement ALU Response

TPUT in case of Single user and multi users (to be completed) in good radio conditions
