Information Standards delivery provides products and services to assist the collection, management and sharing of health and social

care information to support patient care.

Clinical Terminology

Support and maintain:• SNOMED CT• Read codes

Mapping support to cope with the mixed environment until SNOMED CT embedded

Helpdesk:• Addition of new codes• Queries regarding existing codes

Pharmacy Terminology

dm+d – dictionary of medicines and devices:• Released every 4 weeks• Linked to SNOMED CT

Helpdesk:• Addition of new content• Queries regarding existing content

Clinical Classifications Service

• Support and maintain:– ICD the diagnoses classification– OPCS the procedures classification

• Primarily used in admitted patient care• Mapping from terminology to classifications

• Helpdesk – Queries regarding the classifications– Clinical coding queries

Interoperability

Service Offered

• Define the data elements and data models required to be captured by sending systems – these can be found in the NHS Data Model and Dictionary

• Define Clinical and business definitions to support data extraction

• Create technical specifications for the transport of this information

• Implementation Support and Education for implementation (i.e. to help suppliers implement the data set transport)
