A Halloween celebration isn’t complete without Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance! So come
learn the famous dance in time for Halloween and Scare on the Square! Sign up for the
series of four classes in october, Thursdays, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Eastridge; Activity # 561009.
A sweet family holiday activity is trick-or-treat street on Saturday, october 29. Children
under 12 are invited to come in costume with trick-or-treat bag in hand. Local businesses
provide treats for all the “little ghosts and goblins!” Each family may pick a pumpkin from the
pumpkin patch while supplies last.
Families may enjoy a Haunted Hayride on october 28 and 29 where spooky tales and
winding trails sum up this fun family adventure! Plum Creek Stockton Stables hosts this spine-

THE HrCA DrAFT 2012 BuDGET – The HrCA staff and
Finance Committee are now reviewing draft budget proposals
for 2012. The Finance Committee members are volunteers with
financial backgrounds in a number of areas. The committee makes recommendations to the
Board of Directors regarding HrCA’s financial statements and annual budgets. In october,
the Draft 2012 HrCA Budget will be presented to the recreation Advisory Committee,
which is comprised of our District Delegates. The Board of Directors will consider the
budget recommendations and adopt a budget at the November Board Meeting.
BACKCouNTry WILDErNESS ArEA – As our seasons change don’t miss out on the
great opportunities to visit the trail systems, and participate in one of the many hikes or
activities that happen during the fall in the Backcountry. This property is an amazing asset to
Highlands ranch. Please observe all signage for your safety and the protection of wildlife and
the preservation of their habitat.
CoVENANT CoNTroL – Members often ask our Covenant Compliance and Assistance
staff what gives HrCA the right to enforce covenants in the community. In 1981, the
original developer of Highlands ranch recorded in the public records of Douglas County,
a document called the Community “Declaration” for Highlands ranch Community
Association, Inc.
The Declaration imposes a number of restrictions and conditions on all property and
property owners in Highlands ranch and gives the HrCA the right to enforce the
restrictions, and to adopt bylaws and rules and regulations for the governance of HrCA and
the use of property in Highlands ranch.
Every owner of a lot in Highlands ranch is a member of Highlands ranch Community
Association, Inc. When purchasing a home in Highlands ranch (accepting title to real
property), the owner agrees to be bound by the terms of the Declaration and you have
contractually agreed to all of those terms, conditions and restrictions.
FIND uS oN THE MAP – All of our HrCA programs and events are located with in
the boundaries of Highlands ranch, but we often take for granted that residents know
the location of the mansion, Town Center, or Civic Green Park. our web site is the
most accurate and complete source of information for all our programs and events. Each
program will have the address, and a map to the location.
Check our web site often to find out what is happening in your home town.
LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE
As we head into fall, the days
get shorter and dryer while the
temperatures remain warm. our
landscape still needs our attention
with regular watering per your
water budget, mowing and weed
treatment. Make sure you give your
lawn the nutrients it needs before
the snow flies so it revives next
spring with vigor.
We are noticing many dead and
dying aspen trees as we drive
through the community. Please
remove these trees now so they
don’t become a hazard in our winter
storms. If you receive a letter from
our Covenant Compliance and
Assistance Department asking you
to remove a dead tree or trees,
please make arrangements to have
it taken care of and give us a call at
303-471-8821 to let us know your
plan.

professional, educator, and community volunteer who has
devoted a good portion of his life to giving back to the
community with his knowledge, time, and heart. Gordon has
chaired the HrCA Development review Committee for
more than 20 years, providing indelible wisdom and profound
expertise in the field of commercial development. Gordon finds the Highlands ranch
community a truly outstanding place to live and remains a supporter of its continued
growth and development.

Caroline Smith – Caroline has volunteered for HrCA for 14
years; 13 years as the delegate for District 61. She said she
likes to volunteer because “Highlands ranch does so much
for all of us and I like to give something back.”
Caroline said, “No matter how old you are, where you are
from, or what you like to do, you can find it all right here in
Highlands ranch. Help the library by reading to children; drive older folks who need
a helping hand; increase your athletic skills in our four modern recreation centers;
and, of course, attend our Senior Club activities and our remarkable Historical Society
programs. Come to Highlands ranch…we’ve have it all!”
B O a R D U p D a T e SBoarD MotioNs The September Board Meeting Motions are available at www.HrCAonline.org.
reDistrictiNG coMMittee
The Board is looking to seat a redistricting Committee to reviewing the
governing documents to determine the procedures and feasibility of modifying
the boundaries of the delegate districts to make the delegate districts relatively
more equal in size by number of lots represented by each delegate district, and
if redistricting is not desirable or feasible to identify potential alternatives to
substantially equalize the voting power of the delegates. Interested applicants,
please send a cover letter indicating interest in serving on this committee, a
resume profiling your career expertise, committee application, and review and
sign the Conflict of Interest Policy to [email protected]. Forms are
available on web site, see Community News on the home page.

Affairs Association is a participant
in the Art Encounters year-long
rotating outdoor sculpture exhibit
in Highlands ranch, Lone Tree,
Castle rock, and Parker. Each year
the public is encouraged to visit all
the sculptures and vote for their

was announced at a reception on
August 28 in Parker. The winner
was Mark Castator for his piece
entitled Tower of Cumae. Mark said,
“It is so encouraging to see smaller
communities coming together to
support the arts. These programs
can start small and then suddenly
take on a life of their own; bringing
so much back to the community and
the artists.”
