The HRA 5100 HF communication system supports voice and data link in air-to-air and air-to-ground applications and also communication while ﬂying under non- line of sight conditions and during NoE operations in heavily structured landscapes. The system assists automatic radio communication by passive and active channel analysis, automatic channel selection from a preset frequency list, and adaptive reaction to varying propagation conditions. Sophisticated error detection and correction aid data communication. Special emphasis is given to keep full transmit power of 100 W under heavily varying antenna matching conditions during operations. Lower power levels are selected by the operator. The control interface is designed to ﬁt with the avionics system of the aircraft. The HRA 5100 comprises two components: the HTR 5100 transceiver - that includes radio processor, modem processor and transceiver - and the ATU 5100 antenna tuning unit.
