GERSTEL QuickMix QuickMix is now available for the GERSTEL MPS ro-botic series. QuickMix en-ables extremely fast and efficient mixing and extrac-tion of samples as part of the automated sample preparation process. The mixing power is compara-ble to that of vortex mixing. The sample is agitated in a special tray on the module, depending on the vial size holding up to 6 samples at a time. The tray can be

exchanged to operate with 2 mL, 4 mL, and 20 mL vials. If need-ed, Quick-Mix can be configured with a heated tray. All sample preparation steps are set up by mouse-click in the MAESTRO software in stand-alone operation, fully integrated with Agilent Technologies® MassHunter or ChemStation, or coupled with soft-ware from AB Sciex™ or Thermo Scientific®

Cryostatic Cooling Device CCD 2GERSTEL CCD 2 delivers cryostatic cooling for the GERSTEL CIS, TDU and TDS systems. The CCD 2 enables fast and independent cooling of up to 2 systems to temperatures as low as -40 °C. The CCD 2 is a perfect replacement for cryogenic cooling when only moderate trap temperatures are required. The temperatures are simply set as part of the MAESTRO method for the analysis. The display on the CCD 2 enables the user to verify the actual temperature.

Filtration / DNPH ElutionThe Filtration / DNPH Elution option for the GERSTEL MultiPur-pose Sampler (MPS robotic) enables automated clean-up of up to 98 samples or extracts using standard filters. Alternatively, up to 20 DNPH cartridges can be eluted to determine formaldehyde and lower aldehydes sampled from air. Filtration/Elution can be combined with sample preparation and introduction to an LC-

MS/MS- or GC/MS system. Fil-tration can significantly improve the reliability of the analysis and of the analysis system. Liquid transfer is performed with exact control of flow and volume for highly reproducible results. MAE-STRO software offers simple and efficient control by mouse-click, requiring no macro program-ming.

MPS roboticPRO

The MPS roboticPRO is a highly efficient GC/MS autosampler, optimized for flexibil-ity and throughput. MPS roboticPRO holds a significantly larger number of samples and provides fast, reliable and highly accurate processing of all tasks. The sampler can au-tomatically change between Liquid, Head-space, and SPME injection techniques. Thermal Desorption / Thermal Extraction, Dynamic Headspace (DHS) and Automat-ed Liner Exchange (ALEX) can be added for increased flexibility and performance.

SPME calibration with derivatization and other liquid handling tasks are set up by mouse click without program-ming steps using MAESTRO software under integrated GC/MS system con-

trol. Priority samples can be added at any time without stopping the ongoing analysis se-quence. PrepAhead pro-ductivity ensures that the

complete GC/MS system is fully utilized.

SID Barcode ReaderThe new Sample ID (SID) Barcode reader for the GERSTEL Mul-tiPurpose Sampler (MPS) uses a dual camera setup and im-age analysis for positive identification of samples. SID can be connected to a PC or LAN using USB connectivity. Fully imple-

mented into the MAESTRO software, SID en-ables independent sample logging or fully in-

tegrated sample ID transfer to the data file with multiple user-defined op-

tions for sample verification and the handling of deviations.

Forensic and Doping analysis

Dried Blood Spot Autosampler DBSA

The GERSTEL Dried Blood Spot Autosampler (DBSA) pro-cesses up to 368 samples on DBS cards for Forensic or

Doping analysis. Automation is performed using the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler (MPS) under MAESTRO software control.

can be added to the desorption eluent for quality purposes if required. An eluate clean-up step can further be performed based on an on-line SPE module which can be integrated into the overall analysis system. The online SPE system (GERSTEL-SPExos ) is based on replaceable SPE cartridges, ensuring mini-mal sample to sample carry over while efficiently transferring the analytes to the LC-MS/MS system with best possible re-covery for best possible LODs. Finally, the card is released and the associated tubing thoroughly rinsed with solvent. The card is again photographed to enable full documentation of the sample area, which has been desorbed.

Conclusion: The fully automated DBSA system enables fast and reliable determi-nation of salient blood levels with excellent LODs. This is about as efficient as it gets.
