Points of view

Positive Negative

Almost half of the world´s population currently lives in cities, and is

projected to increase in the following decades, but what kind of city

will they be living in?

I envision the city of the future through two different points of

view:

Page 3: How would you envision the city of the future?

PositiveIn a positive way, I conceive the city of the future as a result of

technological development. This visualization includes the

following aspects:

Page 4: How would you envision the city of the future?

1. PrioritiesAs a priority, the cities must:

Perform sustainable

mobility actions

Save water urban

consumption

Have low emission

technologies

Be technologically

efficient

Page 5: How would you envision the city of the future?

2. Smart citiesA smart city uses digital technologies to:

Enhance performance

and wellbeing

Reduce costs and

resource consumption

Engage more

effectively with its

citizens

Page 6: How would you envision the city of the future?

3. Construction and design

The most important constructions in these new metropolises would

be:

Buildings with

sustainable criteria

Vertical farms and

vegetable gardens

Page 7: How would you envision the city of the future?

4. Cars

The volume of gas cars

emits, is a huge problem in

nowadays cities. The

development of new

technologies should reduce

this significant problem.

Limiting the access of cars to

cities is an example of the

measures hollowed in our

days. That is the reason why I

envision the city of the future

riddled with electric cars.

Page 8: How would you envision the city of the future?

NegativeIn a negative way, I conceive the city of the future as a result of

human contamination. This behaviour would lead to the following

consequences:

Page 9: How would you envision the city of the future?

1. CitiesIf humans do not stop polluting and

contaminating the world, cities will

disappear. The conception of the

metropolis will vanish because

cities will be transformed into the

accumulation of human remains.

Something I have no doubt about is

that cities in the future will look as

enormous dumping sites.

Page 10: How would you envision the city of the future?

2. HumansI belive that in the city of the future humans will have numerous health

problems:Cancer (chiefly lung

cancer)

Respiratory faileure or

respiratory problems

Increase of diseases:

typhoid fever,

malaria…

Page 11: How would you envision the city of the future?

3. Global

Warming

Humans need to stop polluting

and contaminating the world. If

they do not stop acting as they

are doing, there will be

disastrous consequences. As I

have already mentioned, one of

these effects will be the

“extinction” of cities. Global

warming is an obvious example

of peoples actions and one of

the most relevant and

significant repercussions.

ConclusionNo-one really knows what the future holds but the reality now is that our

urban spaces are overcrowed and polluted. However, I have a dystopian

vision of the city of the future. I envision it as a magnificent place full of

flying cars, intelligent buildings, greener spaces…

“Even with no humans left, the city would not sleep. It had to carry on”
