A mini survey conducted

among our Windows 10

webinar attendees revealed

that most of them use

Windows 7

Second in use is Windows 8

* Windows 9 has been added to the survey as a teaser

as there will never be a Windows 9. The upgrade is from

Windows 8.1 to 10.

Although no official explanation has been given for the

absence of Windows 9, it is thought to demonstrate how

radical this upgrade is intended to be in departure from

Windows 8 and 8.1 OS.

Windows start menu or

Windows start screen?

Mini survey conducted during our Windows 10

session showed that most of those who attended

the webinar prefer traditional Windows start

menu to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 start screen

The big reveal!

Windows 10

Work in progress…

While preparing this

presentation for you, I took

a screen shot of this slide.

What is visible on this image

has now been replaced with

an expandable Windows

Start Menu to Windows Start

Screen. It goes to show

how dynamic the build

process of Windows 10 is.

Windows 10 is a work in progress.

Converged Windows platformthe Internet of Things

One platform across all devices

The converged Windows platform is designed to

deliver the same experience across all devices.

Applications will also be available across all

devices, so for example, by installing an app on

your mobile phone would give you access to the

same app on your tablet or laptop.

One platform across all devices…

The Internet of Things

• Environmental monitoring

• Infrastructure management

• Industrial applications

• Energy management

• Medical and healthcare systems

• Building and home automation

• Transport systems

• Large scale deployment

www.cloudrooms.net

The Internet of Things are

basically appliances and

devices that connect to

the internet.

Windows 10 aims to be

able to connect in some

way to all of these

internet based devices.

Continuum

www.cloudrooms.net

Enter tablet mode?

With Continuum, in laptop

mode, the OS is designed to

be optimised for example

with a keyboard/mouse, as a

conventional laptop.

If the keyboard is detached,

the OS will optimise itself to

be used as a tablet.

You can see we now have

the addition of the arrow in

the toolbar to assist in hand

gesture.

Business

• Opt in available for all updates

• Lock down mission critical environments to receive

only security & critical updates

• In-between option to keep certain updates

• Mixed approach

Consumer

• Updates available instantly via Windows update on

a monthly basis

and Business app store

Apps

Apps employee store experience

Although a general app store will be available,

organisations will also be able to create a customized

store. This will allow for curation of store experiences that

can include their choice of store apps alongside company-

owned apps into a separate employee store experience.

Cortana

It has been confirmed Cortana will be

integrated into Windows 10

Cortana

Current releaseNext release???

Cortana is designed to be a personal assistant.

You can arrange a meeting simply by talking into your

device or instruct it to open a particular application.

With the version on the phone you could ask where is

the nearest grocery store and it will open up the maps

application and give you directions to one.

Notification center and settings

Notification center and settings

The new notification center will let you

know if you receive a new Skype

message, email or if an application has

been successfully downloaded. A full

list of what appears in the notifications

has not yet been issued.

Multiple desktops

Increased audio support

MKV, FLAC, HEVC

www.cloudrooms.net

MKV formats are now supported out of the

box. These are a popular file format for

video files.

Also, Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) will

also be available. The advantage of FLAC is

they don’t lose any data in compression.

Although the file sizes are larger, the quality

is much better.

HEVC – High End Video Encoding

Snap and fill

1. Quadrant snap

2. Fill half a screen

3. Drag a 3rd app to

a screen corner

for windows to

rearrange the

windows

www.cloudrooms.net

Snap and fill

Quadrant snap simplifies the process of snapping more

than one app to a screen. Once you drag an app to a

corner, it snaps to fill half the screen, and a new snap

assistant displays the remaining apps so that you can

snap another, if you want. Drag a third app into a screen

corner and Windows 10 rearranges the windows to

create a vertical division between that app and another

(with the option to pick and snap a fourth app).

Quadrant view with four apps really requires a large

screen to work well.

Who is Spartan?

“Spartan”

Spartan is the

code name for

the new Microsoft

Web browser

which will replace

Internet Explorer

www.cloudrooms.net

New features include a completely

re-written version of the internet

browser. You will be able to edit web

pages, write notes about them, add

them to a ‘portfolio’. Cortana will be

integrated for voice searches…
