Introduction

It is common for personal trainers to have to write bios for a pamphlet their gym is going to be mailing out or for websites, newsletters, magazines etc. Not many people actually know what makes a good bio though and in this presentation I plan to teach you how to write the perfect personal trainer bio.

Step 1) – Get Clear

Before you even start writing your personal trainer bio you will want to have a clear audience in mind. You aren’t going to want to include a lot of technical jargon if you are targeting the average person. Define who your target audience is that will be reading the bio as this will help you determine what kind of language to use.

Step 2) – Inverted PyramidIn journalism often times the inverted pyramid is referred to. In essence this is simply a concept in which you assume that with each word less and less people are going to continue reading. As such you will want to get across your most important information first and then go into less important details.

This is how I recommended you lay out your personal trainer bio:

•Introduction•Your philosophy•Something Unique About You •Contact Information

Keep in mind that this is the condensed version. To read the more in-depth how to guide click here.

Step 3) – The Shorter The Better

A bio is meant to be short and condensed. Don’t turn your bio into a biography. You will want to keep your bio under a paragraph in length (preferably under 100 words). Remember that the most important people who appear on TV or in articles often times have the shortest and most powerful bios (usually a few words or a couple of sentences).

Step 4) – Don’t Be A Jack

Don’t make yourself look like a Jack of all trades. This actually makes you look like you suck at everything; you will come across as unfocussed and inexperienced. Instead you will want to choose 2-3 traits or trades max to include in your bio (the most relevant ones to your target audience).

Step 5) – Revise And Repeat

The best bios are ones that have been revised time after time again. Once you are 100% happy with your bio send it to close family and friends and have them give you feedback.

Your bio is only complete when everyone agrees it is great!
