EXAMPLEWhile Paul was still attending Lake Windsor Middle School an extreme crisis happened when a sinkhole had opened up and swallowed two portable classrooms. Paul realized that other students were in danger and jumped to action to help save them. Paul recalls what had happed, “I faced down danger today, maybe even death. When disaster struck, we all had to do something. In a way, we all had to become someone. I’m not saying I was a hero. All I did was slide around in the mud and try to pull people up. But I didn’t panic and run either” (85). Paul reacted to this crisis by jumping in and helping his peers. He was impacted because he gained confidence in himself though his selfless actions for others. He also realized that he had the power to step up when it was important.
