How to View Autodesk Inventor Publisher Assembly Instructions in a Curriculum Course

Introduction

This document provides procedures to transfer Autodesk® Inventor® Publisher files to a mobile device for viewing in an app. These files are resources that contain the instructions for building various VEX® IQ assemblies.

The following procedure shows the steps to view Inventor Publisher files on an

Apple iPad® and an Android™ tablet. The procedure uses the PLTW Launch module Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions as an example. However, you can adapt the procedure for any PLTW Launch module that includes an assembly instructions file under Resources.

Procedure

Note: The images in this procedure may not match exactly what you see in your Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions module.

Follow the steps in the section that is appropriate for the brand of tablet you use in your classroom. Repeat the procedure on each tablet.

Using an Apple iPad

1. In the tablet application, navigate to the curriculum course.

2. Select the activity that contains the assembly instructions file.

3. Under the Resources section, select the assembly instructions you need.

In this example, we selected the Inclined Plane file.

4. Select Open In “Publisher Viewer”.

The Autodesk Inventor Publisher Viewer app opens.

5. If this is your first time to use the Autodesk Inventor Publisher tablet application, select Accept after you read and agree with the License Agreement.

The Inventor Publisher app opens, where you can see the selected assembly instructions added to the Models list.

6. Select the Collapse icon (<<) to close the Models list to view the assembly instructions full-screen.

7. To add assembly instructions for additional models, return to the Resources section of your course and select the instructions you need.

The selected model is added to the Inventor Publisher app Models list.

Using an Android tablet

1. On an Android tablet, navigate to the Google Chrome application and access the curriculum course.

Note: This procedure specifically requires you to use the Google Chrome app the first time you add models to the Inventor Publisher app.

2. Within the curriculum course on the Google Chrome app, navigate to the website https://pltw.read.inkling.com/ and then select the activity that contains the assembly instructions file.

3. Under Resources, select the assembly instructions you need.

In this example, we selected the Inclined Plane file.

4. On the download success notification, click OPEN.

5. In the Downloads list, select the file you want to open.

The Autodesk Inventor Publisher Viewer app opens.

6. If this is your first time to use the Autodesk Inventor Publisher tablet application, select Accept after you read and agree with the License Agreement.

The Inventor Publisher app opens, where you can see the selected assembly instructions added to the Models list.

After you add all the models needed for the activity to the Inventor Publisher Models list, students can access the curriculum course using the tablet app instead of the Google Chrome app. The models will remain in the Models list and students can open the Inventor Publisher app separately.
