How to use the SAR Patriot & Grave Index

This will take you to the ‘Welcome’ screen for both the Patriots & Grave Index or the Biography Index

Let’s begin with Biography Index, which now should be called the Patriot Biography Index.

Select ‘SAR Patriot &

Grave Index’ to get

started

Select ‘BETA’

Biography Index to

continue, see page 2

From the Genealogy

drop-down menu, select

‘Patriot Search’

Select the ‘Patriot &

Grave Index’ to

continue, see page 6

5 Searchable fields: ‘ Full or Partial Surname’, ‘Given Name’, ‘Bio Author’, ‘Author’s Society or Chapter’

Click the ‘Search’ button to display the first Patriot Biography record found in your search

Using the GRAY navigation buttons you can page through each entry found in the search, or you can just

click the GREEN ‘Show List’ button and view all records at once.

Use the ‘Welcome’ button to start a new search, or ‘Log out’ to clear your working area and then use

the ‘Patriot Search’ option or the ‘SAR Patriot & Grave Index’ to begin again. (THIS IS A PROBLEM!)

This is a list of Patriots that have a Patriot Biography. The only change is the GREEN ‘Return to Current

Search’ button, otherwise this is the same ‘Patriot & Grave Search Results’ screen.

From here, any Patriot that you click on will show information on the Patriot ancestor as shown below.

Click on the ‘Read Biography’ button to view the Patriot Biography, as shown on the next page.

The screen below is the result of clicking on the ‘See Who Joined Under Patriot’ above.

back to the Patriot Bio

list, you will need to Log

Use the ‘Return to Current Search’ and then the ‘Welcome’ buttons to start a new search

The ‘Back to Patriot’ button will not return you to the Patriot Biography Index screens.

You must use the ‘Log out’ button and start all over! From the Log Out screen you can start over, see

next page to view log out screen.

To begin another Patriot Biography Search

Click on the ‘Here’ at the end of the ‘You are Welcome to access the files again by clicking Here’ line.

This screen is displayed when you click the ‘More Information’ button as shown on Pages 3 & 8.

Using the SAR Patriot & Grave Index from clicking same option from Page 1

All fields can be used to filter the results list, see the ‘Advanced Search’ screen below which contains 3

additional fields to search on. Cemetery County, Spouse Name and Patriot #.

Use 4 digit year for searching with ‘Birth’ or ‘Death’

Once selections have been made, press ‘Search’ to display the patriot result listing.

Using Last Name of ‘Perkins’ and State of ‘MA’ – the following results are displayed.

From here, any Patriot that you click on will show information on the Patriot ancestor as shown below.

Click on the ‘See Who Joined Under Patriot’ button to view a list of compatriots that used this patriot

ancestor to join the SAR, see next page.

Click on the ‘Read Biography’ button to view the Patriot Biography, as shown on the next page.

This screen displays a list of compatriots that use the patriot ancestor to join.

This screen below is the result of clicking on the ‘See Who Joined Under Patriot’ from the previous page.

Click ‘Back to Patriot’ - or – Click ‘Log Out’ to exit the search programs.

Click the ‘Member Search’ tab at the top of the Patriot & Grave Index main menu

Click ‘Search the SAR Member Index’ to view the screen shown below.

Enter the search criteria you wish and click the ‘Search’ button.

I chose my surname and my state. See next page for the search results.

The results display both primary and supplemental ancestors for all members who’s surname is Perkins

and state of membership is CT for Connecticut.

Use the ‘Go To’ button to display the application lineage that is available. See screen below.

Limited information from the application is displayed a living member.

Use the ‘See Patriot’s Record’ button to display the NSSAR Patriot & Grave Record screen.
