Page 1: How to use hydraulic torque wrench

High performance torque wrenches are used within multiple types of industries – large of

small – and even for personal use. However, many people who invest in this power tool are

unaware of how to use it to its full potential or they use it incorrectly.

There are three key steps in working a hydraulic torque wrench. Although it does a majority

of the work, it relies on you to get it started. So with that being said, here are the three things

to remember when operating your heavy duty hydraulic torque wrench.

Connect ALL Pieces

When you purchase your hydraulic torque wrench, assembly will most likely be required.

Once you lay out all the pieces in an organized manner:

Connect one end of the hose to the hydraulic torque wrench and the other side to the power

pack.

Tighten the fitting bolts to make sure all the pieces are set with a secure connection.

Don’t alter the sequencing – which should be in the manual.

Adjust and Attach Accordingly How you adjust your torque level depends on the project you are trying to use it for. If it’s a

strength enduring task, you want to up the torque. However, if you are unaware of the torque

level you require, start at a low level and work your way up. Do not over-tighten the bolts or

they will sheer or force the threads to break.

When attaching your hydraulic torque wrench, you will see a larger hole on one side of it that

will resemble the shape of a hex bolt – that’s what you’re aiming to align with the bolt. The

manual should inform you on how to adjust the wrench if your manufacturer sells a unique

model.

Power It Up Once  your  hydraulic  torque wrench  is  attached  and  ready  to  go, make  sure  everything  is  aligned

before turning  it on. You may need to  loosen the pressure regulator as a final adjustment. However,

once you turn it on, just power it up to the proper level of torque needed for your project – when the

bolt is tightened, it should automatically power down. Now with all that being said, go and enjoy your

new, high performance, heavy duty, hydraulic torque wrench.
