  • How to use Deployment Analysis in Symantec OpsCenter Analytics

    Navigate to OpsCenter Server URL:

    https://:8443/opscenter/ or

    https:///opscenter/

    Login with OpsCenter Administrator1 credentials

    1 Default Administrator credentials

Username : admin Password : password

  • Understanding OpsCenter console components

    (Courtesy: NBU OpsCenter Admin Guide)

  • Dashboard would give your last 24 hours status for master server(s)

Navigate to Manage Tab and explore Deployment Analysis sub tab

There are two licensing models available for Symantec NetBackup

Traditional Model (e.g. per host basis)2

Capacity Model (e.g. Front end capacity basis)3

PS: Deployment Analysis uses nbdeployutil4 in back-end. Deployment analysis is Guided method for

newbies ;-) Experts can continue using nbdeployutil for license retrieval

  • Click on Capacity model (my NBU domain has capacity based model)

Bottom pane shows licensing data collection status with incomplete pre-requisites

Clicking on incomplete hyperlink pop-ups requirement

Now move to Settings Tab, Configuration Sub-tab

Select master server and click on Edit

Advanced Data Collection does not show any agent, Click on Configure Agent

  • Click on Create Agent

Add master server as Agent Host and click Locate

Errors can be seen for Traditional and Capacity based data retrieval without OpsCenter Agent being

    deployed and configured

Capacity License Deployment: Unable to connect with agent. Please check if the machine is

reachable and the agent service is running

Traditional License Deployment: Agent name, Install Directory, Volume Manager Directory,

Username and password are required for Traditional License Deployment Data Collection

  • If it is still returning with same error that it cannot with Agent. Time to Deploy Symantec OpsCenter

    Agent on master server

Proceed with regular method for deploying Agent on Master Server

  • Post Symantec OpsCenter Agent is deployed successfully, Navigate back to Agent configuration

under Settings, Agent and Create agent with Master Server hostname

Click on locate, now it should return positive code

Click on NetBackup Sub Tab, Select master server and click on edit

Select the agent from Dropdown and click on validate

    Oops, still errors in Red

Let’s check it clearly what it is about.

Ahhh!!!! It’s traditional data collection which was selected. Uncheck it and check Capacity as data

    collection

  • Now everything is good (Green, relief of positive sigh)

Let us travel back to Deployment Analysis sub-tab under Manage tab and choose Capacity Licensing

Click on New Report, and Select master server(s)

  • Specify your mail address where you wish to receive report to be mailed; also you can save copy of it

    to report_export location

    Report_Export Path (X:\Program Files\Symantec\OpsCenter\server\export)

Report retrieval takes time depending upon how BIG your NBU environment is

Post reports are retrieval is completed successful, it would be mailed to you like below

Or you can also check report by click on Data & time link on same page, or by navigating

    Report_Export path (X:\Program Files\Symantec\OpsCenter\server\export)
