How to Upgrade from WinConfig 9.91c to WinConfig 11.06
This document describes how to upgrade to WinConfig 11.06, while retaining the original DNP map and settings of
the REG-PED. There are basically four steps to this upgrade process: extract the existing settings; upgrade the
firmware; reload the settings; confirm that everything has loaded correctly.
Download WinConfig 11.06.
Extract the contents of the zip file.
Navigate to the C:\...\WinConfig 11.06\bin directory and run WinConfig.exe.
The following popup appears; choose the Advanced option:
Step 1: Extract the existing settings
Ensure that the PC with WinConfig is on the same IP network as the REG-PED
1/ Click on the icon with the blue transfer arrow
2/ Select REG-PED
3/ Click the Detect on LAN button

Step 2: Upgrade the firmware
WinConfig itself can normally be used to perform minor to mid-level firmware upgrades, but in this case we are
performing a significant firmware jump, requiring the use of the RPL utility program. The following process describes
how to do this successfully:
1/ Connect a null modem cable (supplied) between your PC and the Param port of the REG-PED.
2/ Navigate to C:\...\WinConfig 11.06\RPL and run RPL.exe.
3/ Set up firewall exceptions for RPL. A TFTP connection is required for the new firmware to be installed.
4/ The Com port of your PC should be selected using the Settings button. Click on the Terminal tab and confirm the
serial connection is active by pressing the Enter key to get a prompt returned. Do not proceed until this has been
achieved.
5/ Configure RPL as shown below, using appropriate IP addresses. Remember to tick the boxes down the left hand
side, and to configure the IP address of your own PC.
6/ Select the Ramdisk and Kernel Update file by navigating to C:\...\WinConfig 11.06\RPL\edc\ and selecting

The upgrade process can be monitored by clicking the Terminal tab.
#### is an indication that the IP network has been correctly configured and the firmware files are being loaded;
TTTTT indicates that something has not been set up correctly.
Once the following is observed, the process is complete

3/ Select the REG-PED from the list
By default, WinConfig 11.06 bonds the Ethernet ports of the REG-PED for greater data security, meaning that both
ports share the same IP address, with only one port active at any given time. If this is not appropriate for your
application, perform steps 4 to 7, otherwise continue to step 11 to extract the settings:
4/ Click the Change board IP settings button

5/ Select Use Ethernet interfaces independently
6/ Configure the second IP address. Note that this must be in a separate subnet to the first address
7/ Click the Set button
The REG-PED will now reboot and start up with the new Ethernet port settings
