How to Study the Bible
Applying What We Have Learned
Introduction:• We have gone through several points about Bible
Study.• We have looked at the text itself.• We have looked at different translations.• We have looked at specific word studies.• But none of this matters if we do not put into
application in our life the things we have learned from God’s word.
Do We Know God?
• For some this might be a strange question.• We cannot work by assumption that we know
Him.• We must know who God is, and what He does.• Hebrews 11:6• He will reward those who diligently seek Him.• What does this imply?
Do We Know Jesus?• Of course; He is the Son of God.• But does that knowledge do anything for our
salvation?• No. • For we learn we must do His commandments as
well as God’s commandments, which in essence are the same commandments.
• Luke 6:46• It does no good to claim Jesus as Lord if you will
not submit to Him and His commandments.
Do We Know The Holy Spirit?• The Spirit certainly knows us.• The Spirit gave us the Bible which we are to apply
to our life.• The Bible is the greatest example of His work.• If we will not follow the Bible, how can we claim
to follow the Spirit of God?• We can’t.
Why Do We Need To Apply These Things To Our Lives?
• One can know the truth.• One can know the truth comes from God.• One can believe the truth.• One can believe everything the Bible teaches.• But just because the truth exists, does not
mean one is obeying it.• Knowledge and belief mean nothing if the
Bible is not obeyed.
We apply these things to be prepared.• Remember that when we stand before God in
judgment, books will be opened.• One of the books will be the Bible which is the
standard by which we will be judged.• Knowing the law means nothing if you are not
going to follow the law.
• Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth
God Wants Us To Know Him
• He loves us.• He gave His Son for us.• He wants us to be saved.• He wants us to walk with Him • He wants us to have a relationship with Him.• As a Father/Child relationship.• He also want us to be fellow workers with God.• Working towards the goal of saving souls.
Bible Study Helps Us Grow
• 2 Peter 3:18• We have more confidence in the text of the
Bible when we understand it.• We learn to speak authoritatively when we
teach others.• We do not tells others: “I think you should
obey the gospel”.• Rather: YOU MUST OBEY THE GOSPEL.
Bible Study Helps Us Grow• By doing so, we become more spiritually minded.• This translates to being a person who focuses
upon God, Heaven, Salvation, and spiritual matters.
• Those who do so, are not enthralled by what this world has to offer, and do not get sidetracked by Satan or the world.
Conclusion
• Volumes have been written to help people understand God and the Bible better.
• Yet, it is all a waste if people do not obey the teachings from God’s word.
