PREFACE

TIME is the essence and "Timing of events" in OUf fast li ves. is the task with which an astrologer of the day is currently confronted. This book, which has been finali sed after empi rica l studies, is primarily for meeting this demand througb an integrated & systematically consolidated approach [or analytica ll y studying the Divisonal Charts. At the same time, the book throws light on application of principles relating to the study of Vargas (Divisions), debilitated planets occupying their signs of debilitation, timing of marriage, etc., and illustrated Divisional Charts regarding profession, progeny, parentage, heal th, marriage, etc.

We find ourselves encountered with the large number o f Inconsistencies and confus ions prevailing in the class ical predictive tools which I believe a re the res ults of Interpolations and o m isSions while record ing the principles as e nunciated by the propounding fathers. The clues identified by the author on the functional nature of planets for particll1u ascendant. and application of transit with reference to the natalucendant have solved most of the confusions. The ·Systems· Approach for Interpreting the Horoscopes~ suggested by me in my book having the same title does not leave a s ingle case be ing reported in vario us astrological journals unexplained with this single approac h . The ,wdelines of identifying the functional nature of planets on the ba.is of the mooltrlkona signs of the planet. render the following prevalent, said to be classical principles to futality:-

-That the benenc planet owning kendras turn maleflcs -That the second and seventh house lords act as m a raka planets (death Inflic tlng planets).

-That the planets placed in the seventh and second houses act as marakas.

Page 3: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

-That the pla nets a ssociated with the lords of the second and s eventh houses a ct as marakas. ·1'hat the results of transit should be Identified fro m the natal positio n of the Moon.

-That the transit can be a pplied In isolation . -That the planet Saturn. except in the case of a scendants ruled by It and Ven us. a lways a cts as a malefic.

-That the lord of ascendant always proves benefic ia l for the native. Venus as lord of Taurus ascendant and Mars as lord of Scorpio ascendant beco me functional malefics for the native because of their mooltrtko na s igns falling in the sixth house .

A number of confusions and contradictions have been discussed by me in my above referred book. CHAPTER 1

WHY STUDY DMSIONAL CHARTS?

WHAT IS A DMS[ONAL CHART?

First of all let us understand what a divisional chart or a varga chart is ? Divisional chart Is erected by dlvidlng a sign into parts. For example. if we want to prepare a divisional chart for one ninth part of a sign (Rasl), we wUI divide the 300 1.e. extent of a sign in nine equal parts of 30:20'each. Then we have a standard methodology of reckoning the signs ornatal planets (planetary position as noted at the time ofblrth) as well as the rising degree ofthe ascendant in the divisional chart for ninth part which Is known as the navamsa chart. We will not go into the details of preparing the divisional charts here. You can make the divisional charts with the help of the tables 12 to 24 given at the end of the book. We will see the natal sign and degree oCa planet and see its corresponding position in the divisional chart. For example. if an ascendant is rising in Virgo 23°, its position in decante would be Taurus; in Turyamsa it would be Gemini; in Panchamsa it would be Leo; in Sapthamsa it would be Leo; and so on and so forth. The natal sign Is to be read in columns and natal degrees are to be read in the rows. The corresponding number reckoned with the help of the column position and row position represents the sign number in the concerned divisional chart.

IMPORTANT DIVISIONAL CHARTS

Forclusterwise detailed analysis, the divisional charts have to be studied. These are studied for two purposes. Firstly to see the strength of a planet by observing its placement in various divisions. Iflt is placed in its own sign.

Page 8: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

2

friendly sign or its exaltation sign in most afthe divisions. It is treated to be strong. Its placement in most of the dlvislons in its sign of debilitation renders it weak. A planet which is

weak in the natal chart does not improve Its position by occupying benefic. friendly. exaitton or own Sign. However. thOH planet. which are weak but functionally favourable tor. penon can be strengthened by wearing of. atone or • yantra in. duly ~Iected. time. In this OOok. we will treat planets Rahu. Ketu and those whose mooltrtkona signs fall in the houses sixth. eighth and twelfth from the natal ascendant as functionally unfavourable for the owner of the chart.

Secondly the divisional charts are studied for identifying the results of a particular sector of Ufe by studying the corresponding divisional chart along with the concerned house in the natal (birth) chart. Like lfwe want to study the general fortune, we wtll study the ninth house and the divisional chart known as navamsa (D·[x) along with the natal (birth) chart of the person.

From the various divisional charts we examine the significations indicated against each:

A planet, which occupies the same sign in rasi and navamsa charts. is called Vargonama. C lassics attribute good result to planets in the state of Vargottama amsa. But these good resu lts are experienced by the native jfthe planet is strong and well placed in the rasi chart. In case the planet is in its sign of debilitation, combust or weak on any other account, the planet fail s to bestow the good results in its main or sub periods. A planet in its own decante bestows good resuhs relating 10 its s ignifications in a chart while the one in its own navamsa makes one lucky. A planet in its own sapthamsa conters name, fame, wealth and happiness in life through progeny .

The planetary- relationships in a horoscope are generated through close conjunctions, c lose aspects and placements. When two or more functional benefic planet s from c lose relationship they generate good results relatinlZ to the houses where the mooltrikona

Page 10: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

• signs of these planets are placed. This type of relationship caused due to the close conjunction/aspect is known as yoga. If two functional malefics or one functional benefic and one functional malefic planet ronn a close relationship they cause an inauspicious yoga and destroy the results af the house(s) ruled by the functional malefic benefic planet. When a functional benefic planet occupies a malefic house, this causes a yoga for misfOitune related to the significations of the house containing the mooltrikona sign of the said planet. Similarly. when a functional malefic planet closely influences the most effective point of a benefic house, it destroys the significations of the said house .

The readers may refer to the advance predictive techniques of the Systems' Approach in the book, Predictive Techniques and application of the Astrologica l Remedial Measures. The advance predictive/analytical techniques will make the analysis of the charts and comprehension of the horoscope very easy. The practice and study of the case studies will not onl y sharpen the skills but will bestow predictive accuracy.

FORM OF HOROSCOPE CHARTS USED

In this book. we have used the fann of haroscopic chart used in north India as it Is very easy for early CQmprehens1on. it Is as unde r :

The nwnbers indicated in various houses ' are the signs present in various houses of natal chart. For example. sign Gemini is rtslng in the following chart and the flfth house contain sign Llbra.

RASI CHARTS AT TIMES CAN BE MISLEADING

Those houses are considered strong which are occupied I aspected by their own lords and functionally favourable planets. whose lords are strong by way of exaltation and placement in angles or trines.

As per Sarvartha Chintamant. a classic, If a natural benefic planet is lord of any house and Is located in that house or aspectS It and the houses aspected or associated are not under the influence of malefic planets by association or aspect. the house concerned gets boosted in regard to the traits related to it.

Still at times, we come across charts where inspt!e of certain houses being strong in main charts, the nat1v~ do n ot get the desired results. How can we identifY such combinations and offer correct predictio ns? The answer lies in analysing the concerned house of a main chart in association with study of the corresponding divisional chart as lndicated earlier under the sub-heading slgn1ftcations of the important divisional charts. In fact any prediction wtthout its being subJected to testln the relevantdMsion. stands less chances ofits becoming true. The study ofvartous houses. in fact. gives the clues to trends in Ufe whereas the exact happenings are delineated with the help of the strength of the operating sub-period lord in transit in particular and the various exact wnJWlCtlons or exact aspects fonned by the transit planets in rela tion to the natal (birth) positIons .

Let us see the following charts. the main charts of which are quite misleading:·

CHART 1

Besides, as per tradttlonalapproach. the ninth house is quite strong as It Is occupied by Its own lord, Jupiter, and does not have any malefic aspect on It.

As per systems approach aplalned in the lxlok even Jupiter is a functlonalmaleftc forthis chart as its mooltrikona sign falls in the sixth house.

The signlficator for tather is weak due to Its placement in the sixth house.

In 0-1, the seventh house is occupied by its own lord tn its sign of exaltation. The lord of the eighth house the house of marital bond, is occupied by its own lord, Venus. The lord of the house of the family occupies angular position from the lagna(ascendant).Inspite of all these positive combinations the marital-bond could not survive. The seventh house has close aspect ofKetu and the twelfth lord has close conjunction with Ketu. The manglayasthan and its lord does not have any malefic aspects on them.

In D-lX, the lagna is occupied by the debilitated Sun, who is secondary significator for the husband as well. The significator for the husband. Jupiter, occupies its sign of debilitation. Mercury the lord of the seventh house of the main chart occupies its own sign in the D-lX. The ascendant lord of the D-lX, Venus, is afflicted due to its occupying the house of debilitated Jupiter. Saturn ruling bed comforts in D-I is closely conjunct with Ketu and occupies its debUitated navamsa. Fourth house of the D-lX is highly afflicted by the presence of debilitated Jupiter as also aspect of Ketu.

The· girl who was married in June, 1985, faced numerous problems in her marital life which ultimately ended in a divorce. From June, 1987, onwards the main period of the ninth and second lord, Mars, was tn progress. The brief spell of sub-period of Mars in its own period could not reverse the trouble started by the sub-period of Venus and the Sun in the main period of the Moon. The strong seventh lord could not withstand the affiiction caused by Ketu. Saturn's sub-period in the main period of Mars saw end of the alliance.

Jupiter becomes the lord of the ascendant in decante which Is analysed for deUneating the proper physical and mental growth of the native. Jupiter is closely associated by RahuKetu axis. Mars, its mooltrikona sign being in sixth house casts its functional malefic aspect closely on the ascendant. As the main period of Jupiter. who is lord of the ascendant in the dasamsa, is in operation, the native had to work after the death of the husband.

Thus the study of divisional charts becomes necessary for clearly delineating the results of the various sectors of life.

SPECIAL DEMANDS ON ASTROLOGERS FOR nMING OF£VENTS

Hundred percent benefits of predlcttve astrology can be enjoyed only if the events are properly timed. Life these days is vel)' fast. Every body wants to know what is going to happen and when because in the fast life nobody has the time and patlence. Moreover, the dis believers in this science and the people who are shaky turn believers if the predictions made. duly timed. become true.

Numerous dk:ta are avaUable In astrological classical texts on predictive astrology. Most of the texts indicate as to what will be the effect of a partlc1llar planet in a particular sign.. Yet it is absolutely impossible for inclusion orall such incidents due to which the effects are going to change on accOlmt of aspects of other planets. their iXlsltton and strengths. That Is why many oftndications do not stand the testoftlme. I would like to state. humbly. that the predictive astrology is a matter of comprehension of the system in place of memorising combinations given in the books as the combinations are subject to venous measures of strength of the planets as also the aspects .

Apart from the ftUldamental analysis of the main chart the following considerations play important role in t1rn1ngthe events. the examinatlon ofdMslonal charts being the most Important:

1. "J'raIgil eflect8:

As lndicated earlier-. 1t Is the exact conJunctionl aspect fanned by the transit planetary configuration with reference to the natal planetary configuration which generates various types of results. In other words the conjunctions or aspects fonned by the current movement of planets on the planetary posltlon noted for the birth-time as also wtth reference to the middle polnt of the various houses

Page 21: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

15

would Indicate failure/success depending upon their functional nature. In this book the rising degree In the ~cendant will be treated as the middle pOint of every houae and the extent of all bouse •• baa been treated as 300. Apart from the general effect of various conju nctlons or aspects, It Is the strength of the natal operating sub-period lord tn transit that bestows the results. rn case the natal operating sub-period lord Is functionally favourable but weak and Its transit position Is In strength. It can bestow the desired results to a large extent. The strength of weak natal favourable planet can be augmented with the help of stones or yantras. On the other hand If the strong natal operating sub-pertod lord Is weak In Its transit strength It fails to bestow or augment the desired results. This Is the basis of analysis with which an astrologer can lay with certainty about the frucuncaUon of. trend Into reality.

2. DIVISIONAL CHARTS

As noted above and as would be the experience of the learned astrologers the demands on the astrology today are about predictions In a particular sector of life and at a particular time; so to say marriage In so and so year. etc. For all these. it is very necessary that the divis ional chart relevant to a particular sector of liCe is studied and then the prediCtions are offered. The analysiS of divisional charts is to be undertaken as per Integrated Approach mentioned In Chapter 2 .

The accuracy of birth lime becomes the sole basis of analyzIng a divisional chart.

a.CAUTION:

Debilitated planets even If their debilitation Is cancelled, and the combust planets cannot be relied upon for Indicating success for particular fields for which they become slgnificators In a particular divisional chart If they

Page 22: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

16

become lord of ascendant or are debilitated/combust as slgnlficator for the relevant significations. For example,la deblUtated J u p Iter becoming 10 rd of ascendant of Sapthamsa ID-VII) or he Is In his sign of debilitation or Is combust In the main chart. Rathel", we can safely predict fallure. To augment such. weak planet if he i. a functional benefic for the nativity we have to suggest ttrengtbenlng measure. for the planet concerned and propitiatory measures for those functionally malefic planets and/or Rahu and Ketu, if they are caUSing afOtction to the weak planet or to the ascendant.

It will be the experience of learned fI1ends that sometimes Ins plte of the slgnlOcators being weak. a person Is blessed with concerned Significations. For example If Jupiter as lord of fifth house of the maln chart or as lord of Sapthamsa Is weak, a native may be blessed with a male child. In fact the birth ofa male child may be dUring the subperiod of the Sun or a s trong lord of ascendant and when the sub-period of a weak Jupiter comes the native may be robbed-off of the bleSSings of the other planets or he suffers on account of permanent or temporary III-health of his children.

The strong posluon of the lord of ascendant of the dtvtslonal chart and/or slgnlficator In the concerned divisional chart with operation of fayourabie sub-penods and helpful trans its bless the native with success provided such Indicators are not weak In the main chart.

4. REMEDIAL MEASURES

Propitiatory remedial measures should be recommended for the planets who might be causing affilctlon to the lagna lord ofthe divisional chart or the planet. whose period Is in operation.

To illustrate, I would cite a few examples for timing the events with the help of the foregOing.

The placement ofVenus in second house and Jupiter in the tenth house is inauspicious from the Systems Approach point of view and bas caused many fluctuations in the careerofShrl Shastrt. In D·I, the lord of the seventh house occupies the tenth house whlle signiflcator (or husband aspects the seventh house. HOW TO STUDY DIVISIONAL CHARTS

Although ancient astrological texts mention how to work out the divisional charts and importance ofthelr study. nowhe.e nn integrated approach for study of the divisional charts is available. SoUtary 8utms lndicating that if a particularplanet Is in such and such sign In the such and such divisional c hart then the results would be so and so, find place in the text and commentarIes of anelent astrological writers. These texts and commentaries are suffering from both omIss ions and interpolations because of the absence of recording facilities. Therefore, we have to be careful in adopting only such classical principles which stand the test of the tlme. These classical principles have to be read in conjunction with one another and n ot in Isolation.

aefore proceeding with dLscussion on the integrated approach (or studying divisional charts. we should attempt to have a n overall view oft~ horoscope as given hereunder:-

OVERALL VIEW OF THE HOROSCOPE

Much has already been said on the subject and the mention here is like a MMe too- product. Yet I thought of touching the subject whJch may be of help to learners of predictive astrology and work as a check Ust to the practLsing astrologers. As a golden principle to avoid dLsgrace to the science and the astrologers . no attempt for prediction be made until and unless the horoscope has been cast properly with divtslonal charts, various strengths measured , and planetary penoos worked out.

Prasana Tantra says that the predictions of one wellversed In calculating planetary longitudes and proficient in

astrological lore C8JUlOt go wrong. We beUeve the predic tions made after due consideration of the strength of planets. prevale nt periods etc, with a peaceful mind are likely to come true.

PRIME FACTORS

First of all the position of lord of ascendant a nd ascendant is to be seen as the whole activity revolves around the ascendant . All the results of the chart are to be fe lt by the native concerned and In case the ascendant Is weak or the longevity is less, the various effects of the chart would be of no use to the native. The next comes the strength of the Moon as a so und mind can o nly provk:le the native opportunities for rise In life . If the Moon is s trong and has the help of a favourable Mercury and Jupiter. the native can make best use of o pportunlties avalla ble to him. The Moon also is the signiflcator of mother and ifstrong. would a ffo rd to the native appropriate motherly comforts for proper development ofllfe . Then comes the Sun, the signiflcator offather, and the ninth house which supports the native in the early years o f life so to say tUI the child ls competent to lead h is own Ufe. If the Sun, the ninth house or its lord a re weak, father of the natlve has short life o r lacks the power to support the native. In fact If all the ascendant, the Moon, the Sun and the 9th h ouse ina naUvity are strong the naUve would get opportunities for advancement in life; so to s ay he has the capacity I chance to learn and to make use of it.

IOENTIFICATION OF FUNCTIONAL NATURE OF PLAN ETS.

The planets. whose mooltrikona s ign fall s in auspicious houses. become functional b c nefics and those. whose mooltrikona sign ralls in the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses, act a s rUlletional rnalcries for the nativity. This is the main pre mise orthe Systems' Approach. The s ign C ancer is considered as the moo ltrikona sign of the Moo n under the Systems' Approach

STRENom OF PLANETS

Then we scan the horoscope to see the strengths of aU planets and houses. We check if any planet Is weak due to debUitatlon. combustion, infancy or old age, in enemy's camp. malefic aspects on it and malefic associations. We also see if there is concentration of malefic influences on some particular house. We check If the lords of some good houses are in dusthana or the dusthana lords afllict, by their presence. any of good houses: specially the ascendant. ninth. tenth. eleventh. fourth and fifth houses.

IMPORTANT YOGAS

The important yagas like Raj Vagas, Ohana Vagas, Aristha Vagas" exchange of houses etc. , are checked and the

. extent of their operation in the life of the native is evaluatedThe planets involved in good and fortunate yagas confer name, fame and comforts on the native and on the other hand the planets involved in aristha yogas put the native to sufferings. The influence of functional benefic planets on other benefic natal configurations caUse good yogas. The influence of the functional malefics having close conjunction / aspect with functional benefics or most effective points of houses cause combinations for misfortunes i.e. Aristha Yogas.

PREDICTIVE TOOLS

After ascertaining the above. following predictive tools are applied:

a) The detailed analysis of planets whose periods are in operation. their disposition. afflictions/benefic influence on them. their natural stgn1ficattons. the houses ruled by them. etc.

Page 32: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

2.

h) The lnfiue nce of Jupite r. the planet of divine grace if functional benefic and its help In mitigating the evil effects of the maleflcs.

c) The use of the transit with refe rence to the ascendant and natal placement ofvarlous planets. The strength of planets In transit to do good or bad.

d) For clusterwtse detailed analysis. the study of divisional charts . The scope of matters to be studied from different DMslonal Charts has been detailed in Chapter-I .

e) Use ofprasana chart in addition to the confluence of the foregoing.

f) Then of course. comes the h ousewise analysis.

g) Record of all horoscopes is kept and the predlcttons made . This is the laboratory where one experime nts. draws conclu· sions and finds the truth of this divine science as in the case of a ll other modem sciences.

h) Recommendation of remedial measures.

Last of all and the most important is that all horoscopes. whether onc's own, of a relation or an unknown person, should be studied obJecttvely without any prejudice and bias .

IN rEGRATED APPROACH FOR SnIDY OF DIVISIONAL CHARTS

1. FirstofaU. the blrtb-datashould be correctforstudyofany divbkmal chart . In O-charts we take into account the analysis of posttion c hanging with a difference of even one minute in the time of birth.

Page 33: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

27

2. As there is every possIbility of some amount of error in the time of birth in cases where utmost care has been taken to record the correct time ofblrth. it is imperative that divisional analysis is taken uponlyupto(D~XIl}. For divisional analysLs beyond (O·XII)only the position of lord orthe corresponding houses and the natural algnificator planets be consktered. The ascendant 8S weU as Its lord In the divisional charts beyond D-XII could prove to be unreliable.

3 . The longitudes of ascendant and planets should be correctly worked out alongwith divisio nal charts.

4 . T he s tudy of the divisional c harts sho uld be take n up a lo ngwith the m a in c hart and s ho uld be s ubjected to a ll rules of the predic tive astrology. H owever, for considering the pos ition of s ignifications ruled by a particular plant;, in the main chart, its strength in the rele vant D-chart sho uld be taken into account. 5 . A planet which is weak on account of debilitation in the Rasl c hart during the course of Its sub periods would hardly be of any help to the slgnlflcations oflts concerned divisio nal charts. In this connection the readers may please refer to Cha pter -3 on ~DebUitated Planets~ .

6. A planet which Is weak due to combustion. lacks power to protect or promote the houses and significations ruled by It. In thJs connection. the readers may please refer to Chapter-4 on ~Combust Planets~ for details .

7. Whenever the sign occupied by the Moon, being weak is transltted by Ketu and other functional malefics. the significations of the D -charts e nd or suffer badly. the significations face obstacles when these s igns are transltted by Saturn (when it Is a functional maleflc) and significations fluctuate and do not progress whenever these are transltted by Rahu. 8 Occupation of ascendent of divisional chart by the slgniflcators of the relevant O-charts also account for the negative points In case the O -chart lagna is afflicted . However. placement oflagna lord ofO-charts and slgnificator In a Chart from the lagna at a hannonlus place help in pro motlng the significations of the O-charts .

9 The planetary status ofvarlous planets such as occupying exaltation. debUltation. etc. should be gtven due consideration.

10 Functional beneflcs occupying asdts. of O-charts promote the significations while malefics cause sufferings. The maleftcs In debilitation In the lagna of O-charts ruin the slgnlftcatlons of the O-charts . in their main / sub· periods e.g. Mars in 0 -9 Asdt. causes divorce ; Saturnln 0 -7 Asdt. delays progeny; Rahu will cause persistent mental unrest; Ketu in Asdt. of 0-7 will cause aoortions/stUl-births. etc.

11 . The planets associated with the ascendant. angles and trines of O-charts slgnificator by association / aspect touch the significations of the concerned divisional charts in their maln/sub-perlods.

12 Occupatio n of angles / trlnes by malefics in O-charts or by debilitated planets or If their lords are combust / debilitated / occupydusthana, the native does not get good results In the relevant fields .

13. Any planet which Is exalted in Rasi chart and debllltated In the O-chart will give ordinary results .

relationship with period lords and Its locatkm in D-charts Ls of paramount lmportance.

15. When both the lords of the main period and sub.period are funtional malefics, they denote destruction and loss in contrast to the beneflcs which do no harm.

16. The natural malefic lord of a house if associated with another malefic in his dasa and sub-periods of other maJefics, produces tension if placed in inauspicious houses .

CON11<OVERSY

There has been a controversy whether the varga charts be read independently or as a supplement to the main chart. Some opine that dMskmal charts coukl only suppae· ment what was shown in the basic chart and intensity of benefic and malefic resu1ts pertaining to any particular subchart depended upon the strength or weakness of the planets in the Ras! chart. However, some other advocate that the dtvtslonal charts should be read independently.

The study of various charts together with their divisional charts shows that dlvislonal charts have to be read only as a supplement to the birth charts . The atrenatb acqulred. by the planeta by exaltation in the birth chart may produce ordinary or negative result lfthese occupy the debWtated aign In divisional cbarta. ~ .gainst thi., the weaknesa of planets due to debilitation, combuation. etc. in the zodiac at any .. ven time cannot be made good even if tbey occupy exalted amaa in any partic.dar divisional chart. This is u per the views of the pro·

. polDlder of utro101)'. Maharishi Parasua. We can safely infer that the natural weakness of pLaneta cannot be made up even by Joinin& lood/benefic d.lviaiona or ob· laininl maximum benefic points in Aahtakavula, etc.

Page 36: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

30

As our stress is to make study of astrology scientific. we have to test each and every dictum provided to us by classical works In our laboratory. I mean, sufficient number of charts. Weakness of planets arising due to combustion Is pennanent and additionally lfthe combust planet becomes

. the lagna lord of the dMslonalchart. the significations of the dlv1s1on (:Once, ned suffer further. When maleflcs transit the lagna. trines to lagna. or 4th or 8th house of the divisional chart whose lord Is combust the slg:nt.flcatlons suffer very badly. rather the significa:Uons come to an end.

For timing the events, the sub·pericxl of a planet which .is auspiciously placed. in the dlvtsional chart. with reference to lagna of the dJvtslonal chart should be selected. Weakness or aOUctlan should be guarded by way of using traditional rcmedlal measures.

The association/aspect of beneClcs wtth the lagna. relevant significators and their trines in the divisional charts boost the signIfications of the dJv1slonal charts whereas malcfles in such a state destroy the significations. in their main/sub-periods.

Needless to emphasise the importance and necessity of study of divisIonal charts because It helps us in analysing the horoscope to meet the requirements of complexities In life these days. For progress each and every step in life has to be preplanned from the very begtnnlng. The questions astrologers have to face are spec1ftc in nature for the speclfied time which can onJy be answered after due consideration of thedJv1slonalcharts. Qulteoften we come across horoscopes where Rasl charts promise a very good. future in some particularsector. yet the results may be totally different. I am citing a few charts which clearly show that although the divisional charts do not show problem for relevant slgn1flcations ruled by them. the natives $uffered because of weak combinations in the birth chart itself. However. as indicated earller the divisional charts have to be read as a supplement to the birth charts.

ANALYSING DEBILITATED PLANETS

A lot can be read on the subject in print in clear contravention of the hints given by ancient astrological writers in the name of RaJa Yogas arlsingout ofcanccllatlon of debilitation of debilitated. planets. On the face offt. 1t does not appear to be true in all cases . The so called rise in life around the age of 33 yeaTS is experienced by an individual only in cases where there are other Raj Yogas in the horoscope and the main periods of the Yogakaraka Planets .

The inference of some that the Neech-Bhanga Raj yogas glve rise in life after the age of33years. in fbelf. sho\\'S the truth in the dictum on results ofdebilltated planets that during the period of a deb1l1tated planet one meets with sorrows. unhappy. timid ml-erable and worried conditions. So. this Ia a negatlve factor as it denies, delays and/or deteriorates the opportunities significations in life of an tndMdual during the period ofsuch planets . The opNatfon of period of. planet whether .trona: or Week, whether beneftc or malefic elc .... of areal importance and the same is very pertinent in this case also.

Sarvaratha Chintamani indicates that the native Uves by despicable and low means. forsaken by people and suffers from disease. As per Saravall a debWtated planet during ita maln/ sub-perlods wlll trouble the native through his enemies, defeat and poverty, even If he were a king.

Saravall declares the debWtated. planets fully inauspicioUS. It further states that those planets crea~ disturbance which are weak by way of combustion/ debilltatton/in an enemy's camp/defeated In a planetary war. However, a debilitated planet in angular position to the Moon aspected by benefics or specially by Jupiter . its dlspositor being s trong by exaltation or occupying own house or in an angular position to the Moon/lagna etc. are the faclol'S which are the basis for thue ao called. cancel· "lion of debilitation. I have closely observed such combinations and have found that In case the period of such a planet operates. it gives overall negattve results. In case the main periods of such a planet does not operate. its s ub pertod in the pertods of other planets results in delay in the general growth of the ind lvtdual. Of course. it goes without saying that whenever the bhuktl or sub·period of debilltated planets even with debll1tatlon cancellation in operation is clubbed by unfavourable transits or in the dasa/ bhukti of functional maleflcs. It really g1ves very bad results so to say that It does not promote or protect their own indJcations /stgn1flcations. The lord of the fifth house Mars, has close conJunction with Rahu. The slgnlficator for the roaJe progeny Is closely conjunct with Saturn In the fifth house. All these combinations had put the slgnlficatJors aCthe fifth house In focus. The native was blessed with a son In 1972. The main period of Jupiter was operative. From 1979 onwards, the main pertod of debilitated Saturn started. The native revealed that durtng the 14 years age of his elder son there Is hardly any time when he had kept good health. The eye Sight is weak. he had high temperatures, Jaundice: damaged lever, etc. Theyoungerone who was born after 13 years of his elderbrotheralso had repeated health problems. The reason Is that whenever the weak slgnlficators are transltted/ aspected by functional maleflcs and/or Rahu and Ketu the native suffers from problems related to these areas. In tbl. cue the functional malefic ls the Moon. wbo due to btl fast speed comes into contact with weak .'gulRcRton more often.

ANALYSING COMBUST PLANETS

The combust planets lack all power to protect/ promote the significations and the houses ruled by them. Although there Is very condensed mention oftbis subject in AstrolOgical Texts and commentaries of classical writers like S/5hrl Varaluniltlra, Kalyan Vanna and Venktesh Shanna. the same carries a very deep meaning and has to be viewed in the form of a very useful hint.

Whenever, In a nativity a planet is combust, the native suffers with regard to the significations and the houses ruled by such planets in such a manner that the suffering becomes memorable, so to say it Is like a tragedy, during the operat1onal periods of~uch planets. In case the houses, whose lords are combust, are occupied by functional maleflcs, Rahu and Ketu the significations are totally destroyed. In case the major dasa of such a planet do not operate then the fruits of the significations supposed to be provided by the combust planet are not enjoyed by the native and in case the major dasa operates and whenever the malefics transit the signs ruled by the combust planets tragic happenings occur In the relevant fields. Sometimes. the combust planets do bless temporarily the stgnificatlons ruled by them to cause sufferings on a later date by snatching it away.

The only saving factor Is the aspect/ association of the powerful functional benefics. In case, In addition to some other planets. Jupiter. being a functional benefic is also combust then there Is hardly any saving factor. However, if the depositors of the combust planets are powerfully placed, benefiCially aspected and are functional benefics, the effects oLcombust planets may be a little less.

Page 53: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

47

Ira planet Is combust and becomes lord of the asdt. of a divisional chart or the sign occupied by the Moon in the divisional chart. whenever the functional malefic Rahu or Ketu transit such signs in the individual chart. the indications of the dtv1Slonal chart either end or are badly damaged.

Let us see what classical texts have to sayan th1.s:

Sarvaratha Chlntamanl states that durtng the dasa ora combust planet. the native commits many sins. suffers loss ofintel.ligence. fame. wife, wealth and lands. Further. he earm wealth by unfalr means .

Saravali states: -(l) that the native will be deprtved of his place or position. dirty-hearted . poor and will wander here and there;

(il) That a combust planet not only loses tts capacity to do good. but also bestows malefic results in full; and

(ill) guides us to the prtnclple that the house whJch gives place to a combust planet and is devoid of a henetlc's aspect. puts the native to ,suffering from the s1gn!1lcatlons indicated by it e .g. in case of such a house being ninth it w1l1 make the native devoid of moral strength. wealth. and fame

The pertinent questions may be (] ) whether there 19 anydUference in the degtee ofsufferlngs caused by the group of combust planets whic h are friendly to the Sun in comparison to those who are inimk:a.l to the Sun:(2) whether the sufferings are more if the Sun causes combustion to the planets being lord of dusthana houses and (31 whether there is any difference when the planet is completely in conjunction with the Sun or the planet has Just entered the zone of combustion. The views of the author are that in case of (1) the~ 19 hardly any di1ference: in case of (2) the Sun would cany addltlonalmaleflceffects for his belng lord of dusthana: and in case ofl31 there is a difference when the planet is in

the starting zone of combustion and when it Is tn single degree conjunction with the Sun. However. a combust planet tn Its ownl exaltallon sign or a sign from which it aspects Its own sign does retain some power La do good ..

During the experience of the author, whenever the seventh lord Is combust and the lord of the navamsa asdt. or the lord of the sign occupied by the Moon In navamsa Is combust. the mamage oftbe native whether a boy or a gld: whether rtch or poor: beautiful or otherwise: Is Invariably delayed. Thus, denying the martial bliss In the peak years of life, delaying the fruits ofthe marttallife Le. delayed progeny and In case the period of such a planet operates, It results in the manta! discord. The (ollowing charts show the delay in mamage due to combuslton of the seventh lord as a main factor amongst other things:

CHART 17

The lord of the seventh house. which Is s lgnlncator ror the husband as well Is combust and Is associated the Sun and the combust lagna lord. Mercury. The navamsa lagna Is occupied by a debilitated planet. and the lord of the twelfth house of navarnsa and Is aspected by Ketu and Mars. Mars, the lagna lord Is having Its mooltrlkona sign In the sixth house.

The significator for husband, Jupiter too. occupies Its sign of debilitation in navamsa. Apart from afflictions in the navamsa chart. the combustion of Venus did not bless the native with marital happiness. Her two marrtages ended lndlvorce. Both the divorces took place in the main pertod of Venus and the sub-period of Jupiter.

The tenth lord, the Sun. occupies its own sign in the mainchart. The tenth house does not have any aspect except wide aspect of Rahu. In dasamsa no mooltrtkona sign rises in the ascendant. Therefore. the main stress is on the lord of the tenth house of the main chart. the Sun. who occupies the ninth house in the dasamsa chart. CHAPTER - 5

SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE MAIN PERIOD OFKETU

We often come across persons who have to see 'requent changes in their lives. encounter misfortunes and 'arely get settled in their lives. I had taken up research lllalysis for finding Qut the common astrological factors in his regard. After examining a number of horoscopes having ;uch past history, I have come to the conclusion that mostly ~hildren born in the ending parts of constellation of Mercury , Tenus and Ketu fall under this category. The main reason is hat in all such cases the children have to undergo dasa of I number of planets having different temperament e.g. r1ercury-Ketu-Venus-Sun-Moon-Mars-Rahu etc. The only :mgspell ofdasa is that ofVenus and in case Venus is strong he child gets some base for settlement in life. Apart from the 'peration of dasa the factors responsible for giving a gocd tart in life for accomplishments are strong lagna. the Sun, he Moon. the fourth and the ninth houses, On the other land if Venus is also weak alongwith the weak ninth house. he whole life of the native remains troublesome, The best harts are those where functional malefics, Rahu and Ketu a not fonn exact conjunction or aspects with functional enefic planets and the middle part of the various houses.

The vital role in creating the troubles is played by the asa of Ketu which gives a start to the series.

Shri Vanket Sharma the author of "Sarvaratha hintamani" attributes the results to dasa ofKetu as under:

"The native loses his wife and son; suffers on account r misunderstanding with the king; suffers loss of education, ~latives, wealth and friends; dangers from dis

When Ketu occupies an angle, actions do not give results. one loses rullng powers, son. wife and encounters other dangers. Durlng its dasa Ketu gives dangers . fevers, lcx>se motions. loss of semen. bolls and cholera. iflt occupies the lagna. Heattrtbuted good results to Ketu only when it is under the aspect of benefic planets~ .

Sant Tulsldas wrote in Ramcharitmanasa that the dasa ofKetu is always troublesome. In fact whUe writing in the context of conduct ofevU perso ns, he stated that birth of evil persons is always for harming the lives of others as is the rise of planet Ketu meaning thereby that the dasa of Ketu is always troublesome.

In experlence. we notice that whenever Ketu is under benefic lntluence. it gives spiritual advancement and not the material advancement. As we are exam1n1ng the results of Ketu dass in the childhood. we can safely infer that the Ketu·s dasa In childhood produces only malefic results as it never allows the material advancement, destroys the sources ofmatertal advancement of the child e.g. his parents.

The best way to propltiate Ketu in its dasa is to feed dogs. ProplUatlon of Ketu becomes necessary in view of the fact that Ketu destroys the slgnlfkattons of the house occupied by him, of the planet, with whom It 15 closely associated. and the houses aspected by It.

If the Sunand the ntnthhouse areafllicted. the native loses his father or it causes severe troubles to the father affecting thereby the comfortable growth of the native. If the Moon and the fourth house are weak byway of afflictlons, the native is deWed the care of parents especially that of the mother. The affiictlon by way of combustlon/ c¥bllltatlon or infancy I oldage of planets and at the same time beingaspected by ma1efics is worst.

Page 62: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

In contrast with It where a native completes major period of Rahu by the age of 12 to 14 years of age and has a well placed Jupiter enjoys the fruIts of life In time and gets settled. Uother planets are also suitably placed then it giVes an extra·ordinary lift to the native.

CHAPTER-6

REMEDIAL MEASURES IN THE AID OF AS'IROLOGY

The mention of remedial measures for mitigating evils of lnauspklous planetary combinations in one's chart are fOWld 10 our sCriptwes as well as in anc ient astrological texts and commentaries. Their history can be traced to times. Immemorial. Prasana Marga links the miseJ1es/ evils in one's life to the sins/bad deeds committed in the past/present life.

In Ramcharitamanasa. Sant Tulsldas says that the evils cannot be fully mitigated by donations. recitation of mantras, yagnas, etc. which clearly indIcates that before his time there used to be remed1al measures in practice. In his great work. he gtves us clue on how to avoid evils. 'Attachment' Ls the cause of all sufferings . One cannot enjoy happiness so kmg as he does not attain contentment. In Kallyuga. he mentions, mere devotion to Goo. helps in mitigating evils. He goes further and says that evUs can only be destroyed bytbe grace of God. In Astrology we Wlderstand the phenomenon of~God's grace' by the aspect/assoctation of Jupite r when functional benefic with Iagna, the Moon or the ninth house.

As per Varahmihira, the evils can be removed. by worship of lea rned. palllavatives offered to planets . reclta· tion of Mantras. dana . company of saintly persons . etc. Valmlkl rush! in his Ramayana al90 mentions a number of remedlal measures.

rush! Yagnavalkastated that those desirous of material afflue n ce, mitigating evils. rains for augmenting their crops, avoiding dangers to life . health. overpowering enemies, etc., should worship the planets.

Page 72: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

.. The role of remedial measures in astrology Is su

preme. The indications of astrology can be of use only lfthe unfavourable influences can be averted by remedial measures and the favourable influences are enhanced. The success of remedial measures depend lfthese are performed faithfully as per the advice in a regular marmer. Then there are certain lmportant comblnatlons in the horoscope which indicate whether the remedial measures w1ll help.

If the lagna or Its lord. the Moon or trines are influenced by functional bencftcs. the remedial measures work. So many times, we have the experlence ofheartng from different persons that so and so does not have faith in these things and W1ll not perform the remedial measures as advised.. I assure that the cancel ned persons wUl perform the remedial measures on the basis of the strength o f their respectlve charts.

I have tried and carried out research unacr the guidance ofShri S.S. Gala, on such remedial measures which should be simple. The emphasis was that the remedial measures should be so simple that the native, who has been advised these, can perform these with ease at home. The people in touch with various astrologers are frequently the result of the publicity by mouth by those people who have benefited themselves

• through simple remedial measures.

AUnougn With literate persons. these measures, sometimes. are dUflcult to be accepted for want of reasons. yet those who have tried these have found them quite workable.

Now. we would like to give brief description of simple astra-remedial measures. The articles offoad. can be offered to blrds / animals / beggers as a shantl measure for propitiating malefic planets In a nattvtty as per the taste colour of the concerned planets and on the respectlve week days. e.g. for Rahu one can gtve an~g fried and tasty on Fridays or

Page 73: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

,

B7

Saturdays to crows; for Jupiter yellow articles and sweet Jtems to cows on Thursdays; for Mars to monkeys on 1'uesdays and for Ketu to dogs. To build up the strength, in the begtnn1ng these measures can be advised for continuous per10ds of 15 / 21 / 40 days 8S per the conditions and afflictions and thereafter on respective week days. ,

The weak planets. which are to act as beneflcs for the native, can be strengthened by therapIes like; Gems, Stones, Colour. yantras. etc. However, for the planets caustngamtctions, propitiatory measures are necessary.

These simple astrological propitiatory remedial m easures can be started immediately in a good muhurata as against other traditional methods . These are cheap. These involve the persons concerned more in the process. However, strengthening measures should be advised to be initiated in a duly elected auspicious time. The readers can refer to my book" Predictive Techniques and Application of Astrological Remedial Measures".

A dough made of wet-flour to be offered to cow tn the morning everyday would ward ofthe afIllctions received from the Moon. Blood Pressure is a disease for which no pennanent remedy is avana ble in the medical science and even the doctors cannot cure themselves for this disease. However. if the patient gets a rotl made with sugar stuffed in it and offers to crows everyday morning in pieces. it works and relieves the patient wonderfully. In fact . many staunch critics of astrology have become bellevers in this divine science only because of this. The persons consulttngastrologers. many a times, are referred to by doctors. The JOedical practloners can also take the help of astrology to diagnose various diseases astrologically In addition to medical examination and guide their patients where even the trusted medicines are not showlng the desired results. For example during the mainl sub-pericxi of Rahu the medical treatment does not help

,

Page 74: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

68

much because Rahu gives such diseases which, at times, are difficult to be diagnosed. Still further, for the Jaundice. which Is caused by weakness/ aillictlon of Jupiter, the physicians prescribe intake of such articles of food. by the patients which are related to the planet. Jupiter . It clearly lndicates that though there are certain missing links, yet the utility of remedial measures cannot be ignored for lack of logic. At the same time the Moon can be strengthened by wearing a pearl or a silver crescent, etc.

The use of remedial measures is being Ulustrated in abnost all the charts under discussions. However. for the sake of c larity a few illustrations are being taken up hereun· der.

ANALYSIS OF DECANTE

Decante is the divisional chart meant fOT in depth study of the significations ruled by the third house I.e . courage. enterpr1.ses / 1n1tlatives and the younger brothers. The prominent signi!lcatlons experienced by the native are of those houses in which mooltrlkona signs of various planets are located . Depending upon the s trength or weaknesses of the planets the results are experienced in the main/ sub-period of the planets. Looking from this angle if the third house contains a mooltrtkona sign, then the Slgni1lcatlOIlS of the third house have dynamic configurations. It will be more so in the perlods of lord of the th1rd house, Mars, lord of the ascendant o f the decante, other planets associated with the third house or lord of the third house. The slgnUlcator for the third house is Mars. Predom.lnant relationship of male planets with planets becoming s1gn1ftcators for the third house give birth to younger brothers whJIe the female planets give birth to younger sisters . Further discussions on the subject will be taken up during the analysis of charts taken-up for illustration.

CHART35

The third house has a m<Xlltrtkona sign ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter occupies its sign of exaltation. The Moon. the depositor of the Jupiter. Is weak as it Is in the house of a debWtated and combust, Venus . The Sun is in its old age state in the twelfth house which makes it weak. Mars . the slgniflcator for younger brothers. is in the sign of weak Sun.

In decante the ascendent is ruJed by Venus. Mars is in the stgn Leo. The lord. of the third house of the main chart remains in its SIgh of exaltation.

ANALYSIS OF TIJRYAMSA

Shelter and necessities ofUfe are called. assets of Ute. Assets over and. above the normal requirements i.e. basic needs of a person give rise to luxuries. The analysis of assets in life i.e. mother. houses, vehicles. etc. are studied. from the fourth house. The stgn1ftcators are the Moon. Mars and Venus. The lndepth analysis is taken up with the study of turyamsa i.e. D·IV.

Depending upon the personiOcatlon of planets i.e. the Sun as king: the Moon as queen; Mars as commander; Venus & Jupiter as ministers: Mercury as a trader and Saturn as a selVant, we estimate the extent of afiluence of tile assets. For example. lfthe Sun or the Moon are involved as lord of the fourth house or are closely associated or cast their exact aspect on the middle point of the fourth house and / or Its lord the assets are rich in nature. On the other hand if Saturn ~ in such a position the assets may be meagre. The richness of assets given by even a weak Sun or the Moon wUl be more than the assets given'by a powerful Saturn. Next to the Sun and the Moon In aftluence are Jupiter and Venus Followed by Mars and Mercury. The association of planets has to be reckoned wtth in this way for all aspects ofllfe.

Now wtth the help of some charts we wtll take up fwther discussions on this subject.

CHAPTER 10

ANALYSIS OF SHASHTIlAMSA

Shasthamsa I.e. D-VI is the dMslonal chart which is studied for analyzing the health. involvement in disputes and debts and the consequences thereof alongwtth the sixth house of the main chart and its slgn1ficators Saturn and Mars. The health is of the first and foremost concern to one and all. The astrology is the only science which can indicate the type of dreaded dl.seas~ like Cancer one is likely to face and the time of the diseases without even physically seelng the person In question. The maladies or diseases which cause suffering to hwnan being due to planetary affijctlons can only be cured by planetary remedial measures on a longtenn or permanent basis.

Medical Astrology is one of the various facets of the Divine Science of Astrology for the benefit of mankind . The basts ofHlndu Astrology is one's karma In the past life and the course the soul is likely to take in the present llfe, spirttuaUyand. materlally. is assessed from the lOth house. the house, of Kanna {duties),the Sun. Jupiter and the 5th house. the house of progeny and the fruits of karma in this Ufe. Although Indian values of moraUty, kindness and devotion are not unlversally appUcable in the workl. at large. yet all over there are fairly good number of people who adopt and have born quaJJt1es of Indian culture due to their natal planetary combinations. The circumstances under which a person is born are assessed from the strength of the 9th house and the operating planetary period.

Fortunate persons blessed with "dtvlne grace" make use of astrolOgical advice to solve various life problems. Amongst all other problems the problem of health is the one which affects a person badly both physically and mentally. Physical and mental dlsabWty oidlsturbarice temporartly or

in a c hronic way touch each and every aspect of life to the disadvantage of native. The medical diagnosis, preventive or ~l cttlal. have become very compJjcated today in a totally po lluted environment. In contrast to the medical science the ast rology affords human beings the advantages of knowledge of diseases which are going to be cont racted by a natlve during the course of II is life. Again in contrast to the m edica l science \t is the ast rology which not only forewarns the native for the impending diseases bilt helps in avoiding the s a me completely or partially by adopting suitable food h abits.

The health of any human being is of the nrst and fo re most concern as the length of life. e njoyment of other sectors a flife and discharge of one's duties, etc., depend on the condition of health of a person. Classical Works give numerous combinations leading to different types of diseases. Let us see a few of these in the subsequent paragraphs.

Bribat Jataka

It tells us that if the Moon Is In the 8th house. the person concerned will always keep indifferent health . If the

. Sun Is in Capricorn and the Moon Is between male-tIcs the natlve Is likely to suffer from asthma. consumption. abdomina l tumors . etc . If the Sun. the ~oon , the Mars a nd the Saturn OCCIlpy 6th; Bth, 2nd and 12 th ho uses In any way. loss o fslg'lt is indicated . If9th. 5th, II th and 3rd houses are occupied by maleftcs. deafness is indicated.

Saravall

If the Sun and the Moon joinJng Leo are in the lagna and are aspected by Saturn, and Mars. the person may be born blind . The Sl1n. Saturn & Mars together give d eformed llmhs and persistant sickness . The Sun, Venus and Mars togetlwr give t.'yc diseases. It gives yogas a dverse for eyes ight

Page 104: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

.. based on affllctlons 0(2nd.. 12th, 6th and 8th houses and the Sun and the Moon. Slmllarly it gives yogas adverse for ears.

Brlhat p ..... bar Hora Sh .. tra

If the 6tlrlord occupies the 6th. Bthar Asdt. there will be ulcers b ruises on th e body. The sign. becoming 6th house. willlndkate the body part affllcted. If the lord of the 6th and 8th houses occu py Asdt. with the various planets the native wtll suffer form diseases indicated against each:

Sun • Fevers and tumors •

M ... • Swelling. Diseases of blood •

vessels, Hits , wound etc . MereUI)' • Jaundice. Blllious diseases •

union Saturn • Windy diseases, •

Rheumatism, arthritis Paralysis . etc.

Rahu • Dangers through low-cast men •

Ketu • Diseases connected with •

navel region. Moon • Drowning. cough. TB. Asthma •

and other diseases of lungs.

If we see in live cases, these yogas are not resulting in lndlcations mentioned in the classical works. What Is the reason? The reason is that we simply try to evaluate an isolated su tra/yoga. Taking guidance from the classical works we have to adopt a systematic approach for evaluation of a horoscope. We have to judge the strength of va~lous houses and various planets and have to see indlcatJons I significations ofvartous houses Iplanets . Synchronizing these wtth the operating planetary period and analysiS of shashthamsa we should assess the horoscope as a whole Including the aspect of health.

Page 105: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

99

For finding out the type of diseases. it is necessary to understand the charactertstics and slgn1fications of varIous planets, signs and houses. which are being discussed in detaH In the subsequent paragraphs. The weak planets and houses lead us to conclude the nature and seat of disease. As per Saravali those organs of KaLapurusha which are occupied by evU planets Indicate want of development or deformity or total loss while those occupied by beneflcs indicate good development. beauty. health etc. Uttrakalamrtta states that iflord oflagna 01" any house Is relegated to the 6th, 8th or 12th houses. is In its sign ofdebiUtation or In enemy's ca mp. Is combust. Is without beneficassoclation/ aspectand Is In association /as pect with ln1mical planets. Is In Its debllitated or in1mk:al amsas. defeated In planetary war. it destroys the significations ofthe house concerned. While the lagna lord, if otherwise weak and at the same time posited in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses can cause death in Its dasa! bhuktl, lord of any other house In slmUar circumstances causes diseases slgnlfled by the house(s) ruled by it and thtl planets itself. For example. If Jupiter being lord of 2nd and 5th is combust and posited in the 6th, 8th or 12th. It can cause sufferings by eye disease. mouth disease, liver disease. ear disease, etc, For timing the diseases we havtl to turn to the planetary periods in operations , Planetary periods of weak planets and the lords of 6th. 8th or 12th houses show the beginning of diseases indicattld by the chart.

APPLICATION OF SYSTEMATIC AI1PROACH •

Though the classical principles are not applicable unive rsally. yet they guide us to the system of analysis. The unde rlying sys tem is ( I ) that the house under affliction together with the Karakas (slgnlficators) signify the nature of diseases/sufferings during the major /sub-periods of the lords of weak houses and the maJor /sub· period ofaffHc ting planets ; (2) The afflicted ho uses give diseases pertaining to the significatio ns of the afflicting planets. How to diagnose diseases is the question which comes up n ext. The houses which are wea k o r afflicted or the planets which are weak or affilcted give diseases connected with the significations ruled by them. This is the golden princ iple which provide us the key fo r diagnosing the health problems and suggestive possible remedies . For ~xample if lord of ascendant is weak by way of debilitation /combustion / In ras i sandhi/place· ment In thedusthana houses and both the lagna and Its lord at the same time are afflicted by association / aspect of the ma lefics and further are d evoid of the aspect / association o f benefics a person has weak constitution and durtng the period/sub-period of the lord of ascendant. the significations of diseases become grave. The house and the sign occupied by the Moon also generally becomes weak . The strength of planets should also be analysed in the relevant divisional c hart with reference to the lagna In the divisional chart. Then planet glves us the further hint like Mercury being the lord of ascendent and weak /affilcted may give sufferings by way ofnelVous breakdown. skin infections or breathing problems. etc. Whether the diseases would be temporary or permanent. is revealed by the planets which are causing afflic tion I.e. if the affilcting planets are Saturn and Rahu. they cause suffertn,e;s which oerslst for llIion:f1tTne and

the plane ts like Mars. the Sun and Ketu although give seriOllS problems hut re lief also co mes comparative ly early .

While the a scendant and the lord of the a scendant. the S un {s lgnificato r fo r vitality}. the Moon (ka raka fo r mind ) & Mercury (karaka fo r nervous system) s ignify the phys ica l a nd mental health in general , the other h ouses indicate the part of the body governed by them in gene ra L Similarly, the planets in addition to their lordships cause sufferIng to the ~ignificatlons they rule . Mars a fflicted by Rahu o r Saturn JOay cause boils . wounds. irregu la r blood pressure, impurities of blood. etc. lrthe S un is In conjunction with Ma rs both the significa tions of Mars and the Sun s uffer. The person during mutua l perlods / suh-pe riods of these planets may have a bone fracture / o peration of the part signified by the lordship of the Sun. Revolving a round the foregoing gene ral principles numerous planetary combinatio ns are available in the classical texts gUiding u s towards possi ble disea s es. a native may suffer .

Os teo-Arthritis Is one of the disease for which there is no fIxed re lationship of caus e and treatmellt in m edicine a nd the who le stress is on 'painkillers '. My researc h work reveals that osteo -arthritis /gout pains are caused by weakness of Mars and its period belngoperattonal and affilc tions t.o the 10th h o use , s ign Capricor n and /or planet Venus. the karaka fo r sex and the Moon · which governs fluids in the body - by dry planets. Whenever the Moon/Venus is weak a nd afflic ted by Mars or Rahu It gives tende ncies fo r exces· s lve sexual indulgence and create such deficiencies in a pers on whic h cause this disease. The de fiCie ncy o(Vitamin '8 ' complex. which inter·aUa others is caused by excessive indulgence in sex. is one of the main reason o f osteoa rthritis.

The astrological advice in such cases can be against excessive indulgence in sex from very early stages in life and Intake of s u ch food a rticle which provide maximum of

Page 112: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

106

Vitamin '8' Complex in addition to astrological remedial measures for strengthening of Mars and Venus provided they are functional benefles and propitiating the planets causing affiJctions . Whlle the debtlltated planets cause weakness for prolonged suffering the combust planets cause abrupt damage . Slmilarly Saturn and Rahu affiic ting. gtve prolonged sufferings and affiJction by the SWl. Mars and Ketu cause severe sufferings by way offracture / abortlon / high fevers / operation. etc.

Diabetes is another disease known for Its dreaded mal-effec ts. The peTSOns suffering from this disease become extremely weak. thelr body loses power ofheallng from any type of wounds / boils. it causes trouble in the eyes and abnormal blood pressure if the pattent is careless in his food. habits . For analysing the disease astrologtcally let us first see the reasons of this disease In the medical science and the body parts involved..

Our food Is converted as digestible glucose in liver . Insulin released by pancreas is the matn factor for conversion of glucose into the energy for whole of our body .

The pancrea glands are behind stomach. If the discharge of insulin is not nonnal as per the requtrementor less or suppressed due to any defects / reasons. the glucose is not converted Into energy and the person suffers from hyperglycemia meaning thereby that glucose level in the blood has inc reased. Further. If the filters in kJdney do not function properly the glucose (sugar) starts passing through urine. So. the body partsignilled by the fifth house. stgniflcator ofllver, kidneys and pancrea glands and slgnlficators offood habits, if affiicted hold the key for diagnosing diabetes. We conclude the sign Leo, the Sun. the lord of the 5th house, first house and Jupiter. If afflicted / weak in a chart make the native prone to this disease . The astrology can help the native in guiding h1m in advance by adoption of appropriate food habits and providing strength to weak/afllicted planets/ house by astro-remedlal measures .

I would cite a few ehalts where the Indications of diseases are apparently evident from the charts ofthe natives with the help of the Systems' Approa ch mentioned above .

In this case both the ascendant and the sixth house d o not contain the mooltrtkona sign of any planet. Therefore. the weakness of some planets and afllictlons can cause disease or a chronic disease but cannot prove to be fatal . Let us see the strength of the planets. Mercury. ruling the fourth house, is placed in the twelfth house. The Moon is in its state of old age in the ending degree of a sign .

Inshashthamsa sign Aries rises, whose lord is having exact aspect of the Rahu in the natal chart. The signiflcator for vitality is occupying Its sign of exaltation inshashthamsa. The ascendant ofShas hthamsa is aspected by Jupiter. The Moon occupies the sixth house . Saturn, who is combust In the n a tal chart is afflic ted by the association of Rahu and Ketu. The Moon, Mercury. Mars and the second, fourth and ninth houses are suffering from the utter weakness and Mars and Venus are highly afflicted. The basic weakness of Mercury and Moon both ruling lungs caused sufferlng to the naUve. Mercury rules the fourth house in the nativity and the Moon rules the fourth house of the natural zodiac. By merely looklngat this chart we can derive that the first part ofthe body is hightly afflicted . Rahu, the notorious malefic is inclose conjunction with the lord of the ascendant. Venus. and the Moon. The lord of the twelfth house. Mercury. is weak due to its being in the state oflnfancy. The lord of the fifth house. Saturn is relegated to the twelfth house in associatio n with Jupiter. ruling the house of development I.e. i1.e third house. Saturn Is debilitated In navamsa.

113

In Shashthamsa the lord ofthe ascendant, the Moon is debilitated and is associated with the functional malefic for the Shashthamsa as well as Rahu and Ketu. The lord of the ascendant of the natal chart is in the sixth house of the Shashthamsa.

As both Venus and the Moon having close conjunction with Rahu, are watery and occupy a watery sign the disease had relationship with fluids. The next question is when? The main perlod of Saturn occupying the twelfth house in association with Jupiter from birth indicates disease from the birth and obstructions in the proper growth. The sub-period in operation at the time of the birth was that of the highly afflicted lord of the ascendant, Venus.

CHART 47

Very peculiar chart indeed. The lord ofthe ascendant is placed in the tenth house in its sign of exaltation. Saturn joins debilitatedShashthamsa. Mercury. Jupiter and Venus are combust. Venus is conjunct with the debilitated lord of the eighth house in the natal chart. Mars is in close conJunction with Ketu in the twelfth house. The weakness of almost all the planets and affiictlon of Mars. Moon. Mercury and Venus. ruined the health of the native. The significator for vitallty. the Sun. is in its sign of debilitation.

In Shashthamsa Venus, which is highly afflicted and combust. becomes the lord of the ascendant. As no mooltrlkona sIgn rises in the natal ascendant such a weak planetary position did not make it a case of death in infancy. However. the child had a short life span and the ending part of the main period of JupIter proved to be fatal.

The child kept ill health almost persIstently. The body resIstance was very low. Jupiter. whose mooltrikona sign falls in the twelfth house. had Its main period since birth. During the Mercury's sub-period the child suffered

It was indicated in the first edltlon of this book. weak digestion and incUfferent health retarded the overall growth of the native and shortened the lifespan. ANALYSIS OF SAPTHAMSA

S mall family no rm as theordcr o fthe d ay. Consequent upon this social change , all rules of classical texts regarding number of issues one may have as per one's horoscope. have become inapplicable. S till, due to Hindu beUef everybody in Ind ia likes to have at least one male issue . This is also necessary for coqtinuance of the society. The demands on astrology become greater a s in a s maU number of iss ues one likes to have, one W'clnts a mixture of male and female progeny. Apart from the sex of the child the happiness to be derived from the male progeny is the n c::xt question.

There are numerable combinations indicated in the astro logical tcxts and commentaries o n the birth of a son or happiness therefrom. Generally. the strengths of putrakarka, the 5 th house and its lord togetherwtth operation of suitable periods. bless the native with happiness. But sulI, at times. a s we h ave discussed In Chapter- I , the Rasl Charts can be misleading.

The refore, in addItion to the examination of main c hart we analyze the position of the divisional chart called "Sapthamsa" fo r matters o f progeny. We s tudy Sapthamsa for knOWing what will be the sex of the c hikl during a particular planelaIy period. If the Iagna of the Sapthamsa and Its lo rd are strong, a spected by beneOcs and the Jupiter occupies auspicious position from the lagnaone Is s ure to be b lessed with male progeny. In contrast, If the lagna o f Sapthamsa is weak a nd putrakaraka, Jupiter, is also ren dered weak by way of combustion/debUltation or afflic ted due to aspects ofmalefics or location in dusthana from the Saplhamsa lagna. one either does not get the male progeny or suffers on that account. The planets connected with the lagna, angular and trinial h ou ses in the Sapthamsa and auspiciously disposed , prom ote the matters of progeny in their own dasa / bhukti. While the male planets so connected

occupying male signs bless the native with male progeny, the female planets bless with female progeny. The effects of planets by occupation of rasi of a sex other than their own also get changed e.g. a female planet occupying a male sign. and aspected by male planets has the capacity to bless the native with male progeny and a male planet vice versa with female progeny. To augment the matters of progeny, we can remove aIDication / weakness of planets becoming significator by way of propitiation/use of gems and other astrological remedial measures. In the charts appended hereafter we would see examples of happiness of male progeny, putrasaka. difficulty in conception /abortion, etc.

CHAPTER 12

ANALYSIS OF ASHTHAMSA •

Human life is one of the most precious gifts of God. This Is the sum total of the kanna (deeds) of one's past life. One not only gets the results of his past kanna but also enjoys a certain amount affree-wlll for generating kanna in this life. Human life can be enjoyed in full and afford opportunities fOT learning and fulfilment only If one Is blessed with long span oCUfe. The results of past kanna can be found from the 9th house and the 5th house while kanna In the present life Is indicated by the strengths of the Sun, the Moon. Jupiter and the 10th house. Astrological texts lay down certain sutrasforfulllife span to a native. The strength oflagna and Its lord. the 8th house and Its lord. Saturn the Karaka for life. the life giving planets, with operatlon of favorable pertods collectively bless the native with full IIfespan. Subsequent paragraphs Include some ofthe combinations for a full life-span on basis of the location of Jupiter In lagn a -Kendras( Quadran ts) .

Saravalt states that one born in Hamsa Yoga will have longevity of 100 years. It further states that If the 8th house is not occupied. while the ascendant is free from malefic residence and Jupiter occupies an angle. the native lives for 108 years.

Saravaratha Chlntamanl states that If Jupiter alone Is located in an angle from the lord of lagna, It gives a life of seventy years. The importance attached to Hamsa Yoga and attributing the long longevity ~o it perhaps seems to have been based on Jupiter as Karaka for discharge of duties. A person, therefore. who Is blessed with full life span can discharge his duties fully. Further. the relationship of the Ayushkarka. Saturn. with Jupiter Is also neutral.

Page 129: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

123

Hamsa Yoga Is fonned when Jupiter OCCupies a quadrant which should be his own house or exaltatton sign. The strength of a yoga depends as usual on the strength of the lagna and Jupiter and on which kendra he Is placed In.

The mahapurushayogas are believed to confer name, fame, wealth. right conduct and long life to the native. Yet we come across cases where results are Just otherwise. People do not live for the full life span Insplte of the presence of longevity yagas. The reasons are normally effects of other planetary configuration In relation to the location of Jupller in quadrants and other longevity yagas.

The readers would be In agreement with me that no Si ngle method mentioned In the c lassical texts for ca1cu latiog longevity stands the test In the actual death cases. Therefore. taking the gUidance from these prinCiples, I apply the weak and hlp;hly affiicted opemtlng planetary pertods as a tool In determining longevity. The determinants oflongev· ity can be broadly categortzed as (A) Prime factors: and (B) Supplementary factors . The Ptime factors are III a strong lagoa aspecled / associated by Its own lord . benefiCially aspected and deVOid of malefic aspects: and (2) strong lagna lord. Irthe lagna lord is weak It cannot protect the life of the nalive . Uttrakalamrttaguides us to the circumstances which render a planet weak. II says that If lord of the lagna or any other house Is relegated to the 6th. 8th or 12th houses. is In its Sign of debilitation or In enemy's camp. is combust. ANALYSIS OF NAVAMSA

Marriage . which is an institution for the continuance of mankind, Is living together in periect harmony both at mental and physical levels. In fact. It is one of the major factors required for the achievement Ln Ufe, as It colncldes with the age group ofa person when he is fit to do anything constructive and at its own. Before atta1n1ng the marriageable age he is tn hls childhood roUawed by early youth. studying and grooming hiInself under the guardianship of hls parents and making himself ready for attempting to shoulder the burden ofUfe and attaining the meaning ofWs life. The most active life ofa person can be grouped between the years from 25 to 50. This is the time when one can do anything with zeal and for creation not only for his own generation but his contribution to the growth or the society and the world. at large. He I she req1,1lres a pennanent partner for deliberation and taking decisions in the fonn of a spouse, who caters to hJs ther physical needs also. The attainments o f a person in life are solely dependent on his ther successful married life . That is why in the kalachakra the h ouse opposite lagna has been allotted for the marrlage Inte r ·alla o ther thJngs . AU other houses I.e. karma and general happi· ness of life are s idelined. So after bhaygya-sthana and the lagna. which sustain the person in his early life, the next in Importance stands the 7th house . the house of marriage because only that person. who is afforded with the opportunities of a peaceful and happy married life can maintain sanity and contribute his s hare for the growth of society both in materialistic and s piritual fields.

The consideration of-Navamsa Chare (the divisional c ha rt for assesslngmarltal happiness) Is imperative alongwith

the R£'si chart. Generally the lagna or the Moon of the spouse matches with Rasl occupied by the lagna / Moon in the navamsa of the native. Whether a person will have mental compatabillty with his spouse or not can be Judged by consideration of relationship between the lagna / Moon of Rasichart ofnattve with the lagna l Moon ofllis / her navamsa chart. "

The marriage can be termed both as bliss and bane. The strong placement of the 7th house. its lord and karka. together with the Moon and other houses connected with family (2nd), bed comforts (12th), self-health (lst). sexual • enjoyments (8th), progeny (5th) and general happlness ofllfe (4th), etc. and good posltlonofthese planets in navamsa with benefic influences on these provide the native with timely and happy maniage. making the life a bUss. On the other hand if these planets are weak by debilitation / combustion l placements In dusthanas / debllitated in navamsa/ affilcted by association or aspect of male8cs make the marriage baneful on any of the following accounts :

1. The spouse may be ill-tempered. 2 . The spouse may be frigid . 3. The spouse!self may lack good health. 4. The marrlage may be considerably delayed . 5 . The birth of chlldren may be delayed!

Cent percent marital bliss Is a rare phenomenon. However. there are cases where the discords Ln marital affairs are momentary. The astrology can be helpful to a large extent. in avoiding the circumstances leading to the baneful happenings by matching the horoscopes for mental compatibilities. supplementing the planetary draw-bac ks in the horoscope of lntendlng matches and seelng whether dasa I bhuktlln operation will have any bad effect on the marital alUance. Although It Is said that marrtages are settled in heaven, yet there is lot of help which can be provtded by astrology in the matulCT mentioned in the preceding sentence and suggestion of remedial measures for weak planetary comblnatlon as well as for the afIlIctlons by malefics. There are numerable combinations mentioned in the classical texts on happy marr1age. remarriage death ofspouse etc. but these only fructify during the dau / bhuktl of planets fanning such combinations. Advance astrological advic~ for the impending circumstances provid~ mental strength to the natives for bearing the t~nsk>n and strains.

The strain in married life is due to lack of progeny. The lord of the fifth house is placed in the twelfth house, though in Its own sign. The sign1fl.cator for male children is in the sixth house. The fifth house is occupied by the lord of the eighth house, the Moon. in close conjunction with the middle point of the house. The fifth house, its lord and slgnificater are weak and severely affllcted. Venus. the lord ofthe house offulfilhnent of desires. is weak due to being in the state of infancy.

In Sapthamsa, the ascendant rises with sign Taurus. whose lord is weak. The signillcator for children, Jupiter is In the twelfth house. Mars. the lord of the fifth house of the main chart is in the second house of Sapthamsa. The Sapthamsa ascendant and the Moon are aspected by Ketu.

In such cases chances of birth of children. without the support of remedial measures. are vel)' few.

TIMING MARRIAGE

Finding suitable matches these days have become vel)' difficult because most of the persons are following materialistic approach in life: people known to each other are scattered all over and have different educational and cultural backgrounds because of the job/business opportunities: the large distances involved: the women entering the fields of taking up jobs and managing business in pursuit of meeting the hard life ofthe day. for having financial independence and meeting unforeseen calamities of widowhood I divorce; etc. The approach to be followed has to take all these

constraints into account. At the same time the approach is true to timing of all events whether It is marrtage. birth of a chUd. purchase of a flat / plot. conveyance, starting a bust· ness. etc.

Whenever. somelxxly contacts an astrologer for timing ofmarrtage. he / she fuJflls the first and. foremost require· ment oftlUs particular event i.e. the 'intention' which is one afthe main factors in this regard apart from the native's being o f marriageable age. The lmportant combinations for marriage h old go<Xl o nly if the participating planets d o not suffe r affilctions like . combustion. deb1lltatlonor aspected / assoclated by malefics . However. for a more scientific study the follOwing systematic and integrated approach Is studied:

1. The chart Is cast correctly with navamsa and dasa / bhuktl worked o ut. Sub-sub-perlods of the current bhuktl also to be calculated.

. 2 . Position of the 7th house , 7th lord, slgniflcator for marriage. Ve nus , and the 7th lord in navamsa to be checked.

3 . WhJc h are the planets that are connected. with the Iagna In navamsa by way of aspect/ a ssociatlon or are in k endra / trine to the lagna. The study o f navamsa, which is the division concerned. for marriage. is the bac kbone o f this analysis.

Sarnvali s tates that benencs with s trength and malefics without it remove a ll evils I(the lagna falls In benefic 's house and Is aspecled by benefics just as those who worship planets will have n o Sins left to their liability.

7. The weakness of the planets becoming slgnlficators to be removed by providing them s trength by way of use ofCems/ Yantras etc.

8. The success In caus ing the events during the sub-subperiods of s ignlncators which are debilitated /combus t In rasl o r navamsa or in trans il is ruled out because a planet wh ich is weak due to combustion or Is In its Sign of debilitation lacks power to protect/promote the houses/ s lgniCications ruled by it.

9. The functional planet with strength. bestows auspiCiOus resul ts.

Analysing as above, propitiating the malefic planets, strengthening the weak planets and selecting a subsub-period auspicious on account of Its placement in navamsa indicates the fulOtlment of the object i.e . results in the marriage being celebrated in the indicated period.

The planetary afnictions respons ible for creating inha.mlonlous relations illimediately after the marriage are also taken Into consideration . The periods and remedies are sUi lubly suggested. The individuals. whose chart otherwise show disturbed marilal relations, are guided to avoid the

Now. there might be occasslons when the exact blrthdata of the person concerned {orwhorn the mamage or some other event Is to be timed, Is not available . In such cases. we may draw a Prasana chart together with navamsa and the particular divisional chart and then time the events with the help of dasa/bhuktl calculated as per longitudes of the Moon of the Prasana chart. CHAPTER-14

ANALYSIS OF DASAMSA

Dasamsa is the divisiona l chart for the study of profess iona l affa irs in a nativity. New trends in the astrologica l appl ications are emerging in the fieldsofhuman resource development, scanning or macro environment for investments, setting up of new offi ces and joint ventures, tim ing of operations, develop ing leadership skills, developing concentration for studies, seeking help for emotional sta· bility, seeking help for chronic diseases and prime steril ity, analysis of aptitudes o f children, etc.

Success in any field depends upon the leadership qualities. The various traits ofa dynamic personality are governed by various planets. For example, for organising, acquiring and cultivating a diligent team one requires a strong Sun in one' s horoscope. Jupiter rules dependability, honesty and knowledge while Mars rules enter· pri sing and aggressive persuasion. The publ ic relations and iinagi. nation is ruled by the Moon while interactivity, team work and tol· erance is ruled by Venus. The integrity is ru led by the Sun and Jupiter while the analytical and communicative capabilities are ruled by the planet Mercury. Ifany of the planets is weak in the horo· scope, the traits ruled by the said planet remain weak endangering success. To avoid picking up of the negative traits of net picking, viciousness, rudeness and increased excitability and harness ing of the positive traits, astrology offers strengtheningofconcemed weak planets. Choos ing the right profession, averting setbacks in profes· sion and deriving prosperous results from one's profession for the ultimate peaceful life with the help of the astrological science, is of paramount importance.

Page 153: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

147

Predicting profession, which a native is likely to take up, is quite a tricky job and is one of the most sought after fields in the predictive astrology. Numerous areas and highly competitive environment; be it business, service, profession, politics, etc., and its magnitude are the areas which have charged the atmosphere making it quite difficult for the decision makers to identify one which should be most suitable from the point of view of success and also the potentialities of the seekers.

There are number of factors which help us in arriving at a decision on this vital issue, viz. The nature of the sign falling in the ascendant (Jagna), the tenth house governing profession, the second house ruling the status, the eleventh house signifying income and the ascendant of dasamsa (the divisional chart for analysis ofpro~ fessional matters) ofa native. These govern the magnitude of the professional matter. For example, the sign of a kingly planet like the Sun, the Moon or affluent planets Venus, Jupiter, Mars, etc. indicate the high degree of affluence of the profession of a native and the income therefrom.

The strength of the lords of these signs and the operat~ ing planetary periods hold the key to decipher the impact of the planetary configuration. Similarly, understanding the nature of planets becoming significator for profession and the planets exerting influence on these planets is necessary. The planets influencing the tenth house, the second house andlor the ascendant if there is no mooltrikona both in the tenth and second houses, become the primary detemlinants of the pro~ fessional matters. The operating planetary periods between the age of 16 to 24 years become supplementary primary de~ tenninants of one's educational/professional pursuits.

Page 154: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

... For the study of the following aspects, in detail, for analysing the professional prospects in a nativity, the readers may refer to my book, " How to A vert Professional setbacks. "

1. ROLE OF THE FIFTH HOUSE. 2. THE ROLE OF THE LORD OF THE ELEVENTH HOUSE. 3.ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

4. THE PRIMARY DETERMINANTS. 5. THE SECONDARY DETERMINANTS. 6. THE SUPPLEMENTARY DETERMINANTS. 7. HOW TO A VERT PROFESSIONAL SETBACKS

The problems in life are caused by weak planets andlor afflictions to them. Therefore, two way application of astral remedies is administered after diagnosing the problematic planetary influences in a chart. Firstly, the strength is provided to the weak functional benefic planets. The strength can be provided by various methods, e.g. stones, colour therapy; an amulet containing mystical numbers of the planets in an auspicious time. Secondly. the malevolence afthe functional malefic planets is reduced by offering propitiatory charities concerning these planets. The two way application helps in reducing the impact of malefic planetary influences to a large extent. The preventive use of astral remedies is much more useful than the curative astral remedies.

Page 155: How to Study Div Charts 2 Choudry

149

Generally, people resort to astral remedies in the end after trying all other therapies ignoring the distinct advantage of preventive diagnostic power of the astrological science.

Needless to stress the benefit of preventive medicine! redressal measures as against those of the curative measures.

Now we take up few case studies for comprehending the analytical technique.

Saturn is additional primary determinant. All the significator planets are weak in the nativity and the primary determinant is closely afflicted in this chart due to the close conjunction of the functional malefics, the Sun and Mars. The Sun is debilitated in dasamsa while Saturn and Jupiter are in their signs of debilitation in navamsa. The close influence of the Sun and Mars on the primary determinant resulted into jobs in general managment field. The placement of Venus in the sign Leo used to give good jobs to the native which were short lived and then he had to wait for a long time for a new job. The native was advised both propitiatory astral remedies for the functional malefic planets and wearing of a Kavach for strengthening the weak functional benefic planets in an auspiciously elected time which helped him in a spectacular way.

The planets Venus and Saturn are the primary determi· Dants while the Moon becomes the secondary detenninant of professional matters in this nativity. Venus is badly placed and in the state of infancy in the fasi chart while Saturn is in its sign of de hili tat ion in dasamsa. The functional malefic planet, Jupiter, becoming the supplementary significator, c1oselyafflicts the tenth house. The weakness of the significator planets resulted into a routine secretarial job in a private organisation. In the formative years of career, the native was running the main period of the weak Saturn. To improve her lot the native sought astral remedies. The perfonnance of suggested astrological remedies did show encouraging improvement.

COMPREHENSION OF CLASSICAL PRINCIPLES

This Chapter has been Included to emphasise that the astrological principles must n ot be read in Isolation without due regard to other planetaI)' positions in the horoscopes . sults as if they were in own signs. While applying these principles we should read these in conjunction with the other principles. The planets which are in Vargottamamsa but in the signs of their debilitation cannot be expected to bestow the results attributed to Vargottamamsa planets.

Experience shows that the favourable results of a planet being in Vargottamamsa can only be attained In full if such a planet is in his own or friendly or exaltation sign. In case it is in its sign of debilitation, it faUs to bestow favourable results in its main or sub-period. The following charts are such cases where the planets which are in debilitation in both rasi and navamsa or other divisional charts have shown inauspicious results in their main or subperiods.

EXALTED PLANZT8

Now I take up the classical principles on exaltation of planets. Saravali states that during the dua of an exalted planet. a natiVe burns his enemies wtth the fire onus valour. He gathers all kinds of wealth. It further states that if two planets are slmultaneQusly exalted. at birth, the native will be I1c:h and famous and three planets in simultaneous exaltation will make one head a town. wealthy and an anny chief. Saravaratha ChintamanJ states exalted. planets gtve klngIy status, enthusiasm. courage, money. conveyance. gain of wtfe and chUdren. happlness. honour amongrelatives.leamLng and royal houses . Saravall states if the Sun Ls exalted at birth the native will be fierce . be verywealtby and beemlnent. With exalted Moon. one will enjoy sweet food. possess superior clothes and will acquire good ornaments. If Mars Ls exalted the native will be splendurous, valorous, blameworthy and will live lnother places . When Mercury ls exalted. the native: will be lntelllgent, be supreme among his family members and be a skillful speaker. One will be famous, wealthy. learned. honourable and skillful with exaltation of

Jupiter. If Venus 18 in exaltation one wtll be fond of sports.amusements. music, dance. etc. Saturn's exaltation denotes association with royal assignment. leader-ship over villages and. towns, gain of forest-born grains and mean females.

The rnull. of ex-Ited p"-neb are to be rtld In COlQlInctlon with otber principlee:
