“Sale!” “Sale!” “Sale!” You hear the word and your excitement levels immediately rocket; don’t they? And with a number of sales already underway (some almost up to 90% off), this can be a great time to load up on bargains after the holiday season.

However, with any sale arises the need for a shopping strategy. Won’t you feel like a bull in a china shop buying whatever you set your eyes on only because the discount was too good to resist?

Before you patronize a single sale, here’s what you should determine:

What you want? What you actually need? What you can spend?

Once you’ve established these prerequisites, you give your sale shopping spree direction. We know how difficult it may be to resist those gorgeous pair of shoes sitting by the rack, shouting out, “70% off” even when you don’t need them! We’ve been there; done that! But simply determining your wants, needs and your budget can help you make the most of any sale.

If you’re shopping for tops, make sure you’re wearing a good pair of jeans. If you’re shopping for dresses, step out in a dress so you won’t need to take off your bottoms every time you visit the trail room. And most importantly, if you’re going to be sweeping every inch of the mall, you might as well be comfortable in a pair of flats rather than heels.

3. Check Online Offers Simultaneously

If the offline store offers you 20%, you might be getting 30% off on the exact same thing online. Although it might be inconvenient to shop online and offline simultaneously, if you’re looking for a good bargain, it’s worth the effort. 4. Shop Ahead for Upcoming Occasions

Do you have a birthday, wedding or holiday coming up? It’s a good idea to shop ahead for upcoming occasions because you can make the most savings on such purchases instead of buying it much later at MRP (maximum retail price). For most women, lingerie shopping is a “twice a year” activity. If you’re one such shopper, the sales would be the best time to pick up lingerie. The same goes for items you wouldn’t shop for otherwise like a super expensive bag or a travel suitcase.

7. Have a Shopping Buddy

Having a friend join you on your shopping adventures not only makes the experience enjoyable and entertaining, but he / she can also provide you with honest opinion on your potential purchases and possibly keep you from swaying off track with your budget.

Once you’ve shopped to your heart’s content and within your budget, and if you probably have a little more cash left in hand, you can always take a leisurely walk around your favourite mall and pick up something else as an added bonus. (Wink, wink!)
