Getting Started
• Check email, get username and password• Go to: http://classblogs.us• Log in
Log in here
Setting the Theme
• Go to the dashboard• Sidebar• Appearance• Themes• Search “MistyLook” (as
typed)• Press activate! Not
preview, but activate
Changing the Privacy Settings
• Dashboard• Sidebar• Settings• Privacy• Select “I would like only
logged in users who are registered subscribers to see my blog”
• Dashboard• Sidebar• Appearance• Header• Then choose a picture,
save it to your account, and upload it to your blog to make it the header
Changing the Header
Changing your Password (finally!)
• Dashboard• Sidebar• Users• Your profile• Scroll down, enter new
password

Hiding the Sample Page• Dashboard• Sidebar• Pages• All pages• Change the ✓ to an x
– See how the top one is an x? that means it’s not visible to anyone but me, the administrator
– Also, come back at the end to make sure all PAGES, not posts, but PAGES have a dark blue thing here
Installing a Plugin
• Dashboard• Sidebar• Plugins• Scroll down to the e’s• Find “Exclude Pages
from Navigation” and press
activate
Creating the Home Page
• Dashboard• Pages• Add new!• Type in name and
description like in the picture
• Uncheck the box on “exclude pages”
• Publish the page
Creating the Home Page, Cont.
• Dashboard• Sidebar• Settings• Reading• Click “A static page”• Select the page you just
made
Making Categories• Dashboard• Sidebar• Posts• Categories• Type in the name of 5
categories:– Topic Selection to Research
Proposal– Research Plan and Paperwork– The Experiment– Research paper, Board, and
Judging– 7th Grade Labs
• After each one, click “Add New Category”
Adding Posts• Dashboard• Sidebar• Posts• Add New
• You don’t have to write anything in them (only write the title), just add a new post for every task you find here:– http://70.58.28.110/groups/scifair
/
• As you go through the posts, put a check in the category it’s under – there should only be 1 check per post
Posts for this year
• For this year, you’ll be putting labs onto this blog, so as those come along, you can go to the sidebar, posts, and add new, and then name it whatever the lab is and put your lab there. Later on you’ll make separate places for your 7th grade things to go. Also, when you make posts this year, remember to put them in the category of “7th Grade,” otherwise they won’t show up on your blog! Oh no!

category (scroll down…) Topic Selection to Research Proposal (click add to menu under the category) and then scroll up and press save menu

• Press the plus tab again• Type “step 2” and select
the category (scroll down…) Research Plan and Paperwork (click add to menu under the category) and then scroll up and press save menu

• Press the plus tab again• Type “step 3” and select
the category (scroll down…) The Experiment (click add to menu under the category) and then scroll up and press save menu

the category (scroll down…) Research Paper, Board, and Judging (click add to menu under the category) and then scroll up and press save menu

• Press the plus tab again• Type “7th Grade” and
select the category (scroll down…) 7th Grade (click add to menu under the category) and then scroll up and press save menu
Placing the Menus• Dashboard• Sidebar• Appearance• Widgets• Remove all menus from
“Sidebar 1”• Click and drag “custom menu”
into sidebar 1• Label it Step 1, choose step 1,
and save the menu• Repeat the clicking and
dragging for Step 2, Step 3, Step 4, and the 7th grade menu (look on next slide for more info

• The final sidebar 1 should look like that – Click and drag the
menus into that order
Alright, we’re almost done.

Go to your dashboard…Press “Visit Site” on the grey thing
on the top…
