How to register a company, trademark, patent and copyrightRegistration of a company:
Following are the requirements for registration of a new company under the
Companies Ordinance, 1984:-
Availability of NameFirst step of registering a company is to check the availability of its name. For this , an application is to
written and RS 200/- is for online application and RS 500/- for offline application for having availability
of certificate.
It should be make sure that the name chosen for the company is not inappropriate, deceptive or
designed to exploit or religiously offending, neither identical nor resembling to any other name of
existing company. List of prohibited or sensitive names has also been provided the site of SECP.gov.pk.
Documents for registration of a limited companyFollowing documents are required to be filed with the
Registrar concerned for registration of a private limited
Company:-
I. Copy OF N.I.C or passport, in case of foreigner of each subscriber and witness to the memorandum ofassociation.II. Memorandum and articles of association:Four printed copies of Memorandum and Articles of Association in case of offline submission and one
copy for online submission, duly signed by each subscriber in the presence of one witness. A sample of
memorandum of association is given on the site for the help of general public.III.Form 1:Declaration of compliance for formation of the company.
IV.Registration/filing fee:A copy of the original paid Fee in any branch of MCB Bank Limited or a Bank Draft/Pay Order drawn infavor of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan of the prescribed amount.
V.Authorization by sponsors:The authorization of sponsors, in favor of a person to fulfill any deficiencies, if there are any in
memorandum association and inform the concerned registrar and collect certificate of the incorporation.
Additional Requirements for Incorporation Of a Company having objects of providing SecurityServices
In case of security object company nine additional sets of each of the copy of N.I.C or passport and
copies of memorandum association along with the bio-data, four attested photographs of each
subscribers and financial position/bank statement of the subscribers (Aggregate wealth should not be
less than 1.5 million) is required to be provided. Ministry of Interior grants NOC for a security objectcompany.
Registration of a patent:
A patent for an invention is grant of exclusive rights to make, use and sell the invention for a limited
period of 20 years.
A patent cannot be obtained on a mere idea or suggestion. Patent applications are examined for both
technical and legal merit.

Steps of registration of patent:
The following are the steps of the procedure for obtaining a patent
Filing the Application, accompanied by either a Provisional or a Complete Specification.
Filing the Complete Specification, if the Specification filed with the Application was a Provisional
Specification.
Examination and Acceptance of application by the Patent Office.
Overcoming Opposition, if any, to the grant of patent.
Sealing the patent.
Applicants should take care to see:
a. that the application is accompanied by the prescribed fee, andb. That the specification filed with the application contains a reasonable description of theinvention.
Registration of copyrights:
Copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted to the owner for a limited time to protect the particular
form, way or manner in which an idea or information is expressed. Examples literary & artistic work,
music, films, paintings, sculptures, computer programs and database etc. Copyright is Moral and
economic rights of authors/ writers, publishers, performers and producers of sound recordings
(phonograms). Duration of Copyright protection is life time of the author plus 50 years thereafter.
Steps of Registration of Copyright:
1. Filing of application
2. Examination
3. Publication in newspaper (Artistic Work only)
4. Opposition, if any
5. Issuance of Certificate by Registrar (Registration)
Copyright registration can categorized by following parts:
Part-I: Literary works (Books, Magazines, Journals, Lectures, Sermons, Dramas, Novels, and
also including Computer Programs and Compilation of Data)
Part-II: Artistic works (Paintings, Photographs, Maps, Charts, Calligraphies, Sculptures,
Architectural Works, Drawings, Label Designs, Logos, Monograms etc).

Part-III: Cinematographic works (Motion Pictures, Video Cassettes, VCDs, DVDs etc.).

Copyright office Karachi provides:
1. A system of voluntary registration.2. To grant registration of various copyrighted works.3. Facilitate any interested person who makes an application to the Registrar.4. To provide prima-facie evidence to prove the ownership of copyright before the court of law
or any authority.
Registration of trademark:
Trade Marks Registry (TMR) is premier body of Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-
Pakistan) working for the registration of trade and services marks under the Trade Marks Ordinance,
2001. It is a federal government body and its jurisdiction for trade and services marks lies within the
geographical boundary of Pakistan. It works as a civil court and its decisions are appealable at theprovincial high courts. The Trade Marks Registry is headed by a Registrar and its office is located in
Karachi.
Steps of registering trademark:
Data Digitization Section (Index Section)
After receiving applications for the registration of trade and service marks, this section converts the
information of the application into a digitalize form and issues an acknowledgement. It also carries out
minor typographical rectifications with the consent of the applicant.
