11 Steps to List Your Business


Step #1 – Select Your Type of Business

Once you have a Google Account, select the type of business you operate by choosing one of the following three options: storefront, service area, or brand.

In most cases, Google already knows you exist. That said, it's always a good idea to start with a new search in order to find your exact listing.

Step #3 – Set Up Location on Maps

List your location, phone number and your primary product or service category. Google has an existing category listing, so make sure you select from their 'auto-suggestion' window after typing in your primary business type.

Step #4 – Confirm Your Business Info Insure the information you just entered about your business is

correct, as well as get your agreement that you are indeed the person authorized to manage your location.

Step #5 – Verify Your Business Info

This is one of the most critical steps in the process! You can verify via phone, mail or through your Google Webmaster account. Phone is instant, while mail may take 1-2 weeks to receive the postcard from Google with your 5 digit PIN.

Step #6 – Optimize Your Business Info

Once the verification process is complete, it's time to really make your business listing sing! You'll see how to complete your file in the blue box, using steps 7-11 as your guide.

Step #7 – Add Contact Information

In addition to your address, include important contact information such as secondary phone numbers, your website address and your business email address.

Step #8 – Add Category Information

Add other categories beyond your primary category to better describe your business (and help get found). You may add up to 5 categories, as long as your selecting what your business 'is' vs. what it 'does'. (i.e. Plumber vs. Sink Repair).

Step #9 – Add Hours Information

You'll have the option to customize your hours for each day of the week, and be able to modify them if you have changes , especially during the holidays.

Step #10 – Add More Photos

According to Yext, business listings with photos get 248% more clicks than those without. Add as many quality images to your listing as possible (max. is 10). Also, a good idea is to add your logo first, so it renders in search as your main image.

Step #11 – Add an Introduction

Now the fun part – telling your story. In this step you'll have plenty of space to tell your customers and prospects about what makes you unique.
