How To Get Over Jet Lag

Travelling in different time zones can be challenging for non-experienced travelers.

The human body can not adapt to the time changes as quickly as we wish it would. However,

professional travel advisors have some good tips on how to avoid jet lag and prepare for

getting adjusted to different time zones.

- Sleep on the road

Take your neck pillow and wear comfortable clothes. Try to book a first-class or business-

class flight. Everyone knows that it's harder to fall asleep in cramped economy class seats. If you

can't afford a higher-end flight, try to get comfortable as best you can, and try to sleep on your flight,

especially if it's a long-distance one and lasts more than 8 hours. It's much easier to avoid jetlag

when you don't feel tired and sleepy.

- Try relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, will help you not only with preventing jetlag,

but they're also very useful for your health and well-being. And in general they're just very pleasant

and relaxing.

- Stay active during the day

It's essential not to sleep too much during the day; otherwise, you will have insomnia at

night. Try not to stay in the hotel too much. Take active tours, make a busy schedule and stay active

until the evening.

- Get as much daylight as you can

During the daytime try to be outdoors. The sun gives you more energy and helps you stay

awake.

- Set a time for sleep

It's important to get a regular amount of sleep, which is about 8 hours in a 24-hour period.

However, it is highly recommended to sleep at night and be awake during the day. This can be hard

to do when you have a big time difference, so try to adapt to the local time of the destination even

before your trip.

- Make a stopover

Flights, trains, buses... they all often have long waiting times. To make your body more

quickly adapt to the new schedule, sometimes it helps to to book a hotel room between flights so

you can have a good rest.

- Don't drink alcohol before the flight

Though there is a stereotype that alcohol helps to diminish stress and get relaxed, in fact,

alcohol can increase drowsiness and cause dehydration. So, instead of the expected relaxation you

will probably just feel tired and cranky.

- Stay hydrated

Remember that you should avoid anything that might cause dehydration. Try to drink a lot

of fluids on the day of your flight. Dry air on the plane can cause you to not feel well.

- Avoid stress

Jet lag affects the majority of stressed people. That's why it is extremely important to avoid

any stressful situations or conversations just prior to your trip. Make sure that your trip is well

planned and you will not have to worry about unexpected circumstances.
