How to get a good night sleep?Sep 23 2014

Had a bad night sleep and feeling terrible in the morning? Let me tell you how to get a good night sleep.

How much sleep is enough?

You hear from your parents that you need to have at least 8 hours of sleep each night. In general, everyone should try to get 8 hours of sleep. But if you follow a healthier regime, taking a healthy diet, exercise regularly, eating the right supplements and giving yourself mental breaks during the day. Plus sleeping through the night. You might be the kind of person who can get away with less sleep, probably 5-6 hours is suffice.

But if you are the other extreme where you suffer a great amount of stress each day mentally and physically, then you might be the kind who needs more than 8 hours. Triathletes tend to put their body to a lot of stress during training and at the actual competition. They will need more than 8 hours for their body to rest and repair. Thus their body needs more time than normal to repair.

This is the same for a person going through enormous mental stress. This is no less than physical stress and maybe even worst. You would not know what goes on in your head and whether the stress leads to serious mental problems. Well think about it, if it is physical stress, a massage can solve it, but when it comes to mental, there is really nothing much we can do.

Actually, all we hope for is to have enough rest and waking up refreshed and full of energy. This is not easy.

Why is it so important to get quality sleep every night?

Your body and your mind break down and get worn out from stress during the day. Sleeping is the only time your body and mind repair and rejuvenate. The key here is to have peace and restful sleep. Tossing all time or waking up every hour is not considered restful.

We need to rest and sleep every night. Please do not try to catch up your sleep during weekends and not sleep during weekdays. This will not work as your body needs a regular sleeping pattern in order to repair.

What can you do to get a good night sleep?

Try to clear your mind before you sleep.

Make a list of things you need to do tomorrow. When you write things down you are telling your brain that there is no need to think about those tasks. Also, do not to watch television or listen to the radio before sleeping. Basically keep your mind clear.

Conducive for sleeping

Your room must be conducive for sleeping. Make sure the room is a dark as possible. Our body is made to sleep when it pitch dark. The darker the room is, the more likely you will get into deep sleep. You also have to make your room as quiet as possible and good ventilation is a must, providing a fresh supply of air.

Your body must be conducive too. Avoid eating before going to bed as your body should be focusing to rest instead of digesting the food in your stomach.

Last but not less, I would also advise all not to take sleeping pills. When you take such drugs to land yourself to the dreamland, all the system in your body is slowed down, including those that are responsible for repairing you.

What I have said above are common sense right? I don’t think this is too hard for your to remember.

Good night everyone.
