How to download torrents

µTorrent• First, you must download a

software called µTorrent. This program can turn your « .torrent » files into the files you need. For example, the torrent file will turn into a « .avi » file if you are downloading a movie. So, I highly advice the website called « Comment ça marche ». It is a safe and easy way to download a lot of useful softwares.

µTorrent: How does it work?

• Once you have installed it on your computer, you must learn a bit how it works. Launch it and set you preferences(really easy step, don’t worry).

• When you want to open the file where the downloaded content is, you just have to right click and select “open the reception file”. The software use the “download” file as default. Now, you do have to be careful because some torrents are infected with viruses. Normally, your computer will detect it but sometimes the window pops even if the file is safe. You should scan more often than usual your PC.

Download the torrent

• The next thing you want to do is to download your torrents. For that, you will have to go on websites like T411 or Torrentz.ch(not torrentz.eu for it has recently been shut down). T411 is in French and Torrentz.ch is in English but you can manage to find any language you want(even Dutch). However, they don’t work the same way.

• For this website, you should DEFINETELY download an extension to your browser such as Adblock because there are a LOT of pop-ups. So, the first thing you want to do is to write what you’re looking for in the searching tab(pic 1). Then, you will have a list of results of this research(pic 2). To make sure this is the good type of file, you will look next to the name of the torrent: there should be something like “audio;music” or “series”. Then you pick the torrent you need. For example, if you want all the seasons of series, you will pick the one with “[X] seasons”. Now, you must know that 3 seasons will spend more time to download for the file is obviously heavier than only one season.

• After the choice of the torrent, a new page with another list will load. This list contains the websites where you can download the torrent(don’t choose either the pirate bay or kickasstorrent for they aren’t available anymore in Belgium). You can choose from these multiple websites. I highly recommend to compare these websites.

• On this website, you must create an account(a free one) and this account has the aim to avoid people to download a lot of torrents and then, delete them on µtorrent. If you delete the file or the torrent, you are not a seeder making the downloading for other people slower. The ratio will be a way to stop people from downloading too much and not being a seeder by blocking the ability to download any other torrents if your ratio is below 0,75. Also, this website is French making it more difficult to find English subtitles with the file.

• The subtitles (.srt) can also be downloaded. Now, it is quite annoying because often, you can’t download them in a pack, so if you have a series with 52 episodes, you will have to download 52 .srt files one by one. However, the website I’m using does have this option.

• To download them, you should begin by googling the name of your file(with the extension) followed by “English subtitles”. The website Opensubtitle.org has most of the time what you need and they are synchronised with the video. So open the page and you should get something like that:

• When you have clicked on the link, you should be transferred to another page(with a green character from Avatar). Just wait and an archive(.7zip or .rar) file should be downloaded automatically.(You have to install Winrar or 7zip if you don’t have any of these softwares)

• The next thing you want to do is to double-click the archive file. Winrar will have opened and you extract the .srt file to the file where your episode is.

• Now, just rename the .srt file the same way than the episode it is related to(but instead of having a .avi or .mp4 file, you should have a .srt file). For example, if your file is named The.IT.Crowd.S01E01.WS.PDTV.avi, it should be renamed The.IT.Crowd.S01E01.WS.PDTV.srt. And finally, just launch a software such as VLC or KMP and the subtitles should appear. And voilà!
