ABOUT TURNITINTurnitin is a web-based service that helps you to detect plagiarism in written compositions. The system compares the words in your submitted pdf with all the papers and documents included in its knowledge base (web pages, internal and other institutional documents, papers from international publishers).

Remind that to use Turnitin you have to enable cookies and pop-up on your browser.

LOGIN

There are two ways for a student to access Turnitin:

- An instructor/administrator may add the student to the class, where the student will receive an email asking them to create their password;

- An instructor/administrator may provide the student with a class ID and class enrollment key, allowing the student to enroll in a class via the Turnitin website.

If you have received an email from Turnitin asking you to create a password, it means that your professor/advisor or an account administrator has create a profile for you.

In this case you have only to follow the instructions that you receive by email step by step.

If your instructor/administrator provided to you a class ID and an enrollment key, you can create your own student account.

 

To create an account, go to www.turnitin.com and click “Creat Account”.

 

 Insert the required data and follow the procedure.

 

SUBMIT YOUR THESIS/PAPER

The internal procedure for submitting theses also includes anti-plagiarism check by using the software Turnitin.For this reason, before the submission of the thesis to the external referees, you will be asked to upload the pdf file to Turnitin.

Once you are logged in, on your homepage you will find the class created from your instructor/administrator.

Note: The class ID and class enrollment key is needed to ensure you have authorization to join a class, and can only be obtained from your instructor. Students wishing to access Turnitin must contact the appropriate personnel at the institution to receive the class ID and class enrollment key. Turnitin staff cannot distribute this information to any user.

Click on the name of the class to start the submission of your work.

The new page will show you the list of "assignments", the tasks your teacher/administrator has assigned and for which you must deliver a written work in the form of files (for example, the first one chapter of the thesis). For each "assignment" you will see the delivery date and the deadline for deliver the elaborate. To upload the file you need to click Submit next to the assignment.

After you have confirmed the upload of the document, you will receive an online receipt confirming the correct loading.

Submission title is a required field!

SIMILARITY REPORT

Students can see their Similarity Report only if instructors give them the authorization.

You can access to your report from the page “Class portfolio”, by clicking on the similarity score.

Turnitin shows different colors depending on the percentage of similarity:

Blue: No matching textGreen: One word to 24% matching textYellow: 25-49% matching textOrange: 50-74% matching textRed: 75-100% matching text

Remind that Turnitin does not detect plagiarism, but checks uploaded works against its database that includes billions of web pages, both current and archived content from the internet, a repository of works students have submitted to Turnitin in the past, and a

collection of documents, which comprises thousands of periodicals, journals, and publications.

In the report page, you can also view any comments left by your advisor/professor.
