How to create a jewel in Adobe Photoshop CS5

Select "File"

How to create a jewel in Adobe Photoshop CS5 - 1

Select "New"


Make any adjustments.

I will be using a 700x700 pixels file.


Click on "OK"

After making all adjustments, click on "OK"

Fill the background layer with a color you desire.

Select a color and then use the paint bucket tool to fill in the background layer.


Create a new layer.

Click on the "New Layer" icon.


Select the "Elliptical Marquee Tool"

Click and hold down on the icon and then select the "Elliptical Marquee Tool"


Draw a circle in the middle of the layer.

Hold down "Shift" on your keyboard to create a perfect circle.


Select the "Gradient Tool"

Click and hold down on the icon and then select the "Gradient Tool"

Click on the gradient type.

Just click in the middle of the icon.


Change the "Opacity Stops" to 100%

Just click on the little droplet and then change the "Opacity" to 100%


Change the "Color Stops"

- To change the color stop, double click on the color stop. After you have selected a color click on "OK"- To add a color stop - click anywhere below the gradient bar.- To delete the color stop - drag them away and let go. - To create this gradient, use the following HSB settings (from left to right): 1) H = 207 S = 100 B = 0 2) H = 200 S = 100 B = 11 3) H = 202 S = 100 B = 32 4) H = 132 S = 29 B = 93


How to save the gradient.

Name the gradient and then click on "New"


Click on "OK"

After you have made your gradient, click on "OK"

Select the "Radial Gradient"

Check the "Reverse" box.


Fill the circle.

Drag from just below the center to a ways past the top of the circle.


Press "Ctrl + j" to make a copy of the layer.

Make sure that the layer is selected.


Set the layer blend to "Overlay"


Set the "Opacity" to 30%

Create a new layer.

Create a new layer by clicking on the "New Layer" icon.


Hold down "Ctrl" and then click on the image of layer 2.

This will create a circle selection the exact size of your jewel.


Press "Shift + d"

This will change the color palette back to default; black on top and white behind it.


Change the gradient type to "Foreground to Transparent"

Click the drop down menu and then select the "Foreground to Transparent"

Fill the circle.

- Drag from just above the center to just short of the bottom of the circle. - If you need to you can hide layer 3 and 2 to be able to see the gradient that you are applying. - Hide the layer by clicking on the "eye" icon next to the layer. - You can unhide the layer by clicking where the "eye" icons use to be.


Press "Ctrl + j" to copy the layer.


Change the layer blend mode to "Color Burn"


Change the "Opacity" to 50%

Create a new layer.

Create a new layer by clicking on the "New Layer" icon.


Select the "Elliptical marquee Tool"

Click and hold down on the icon and then click on the "Elliptical Marquee Tool"


Draw an ellipse that looks like the one below.


Press "Shift + d"

This will switch the color pallet to the default colors. (Black and White)


Press "Shift + x"

This will switch the color pallet so that white is on top and black is behind it.


Select the "Gradient Tool"

Click and hold down on the icon and then select the "Gradient Tool"

Change the gradient type to "Foreground to Transparent"


Click on the "Linear Gradient"

Fill the circle.

Drag from the bottom of the selection to the top of the selection.


Click the "Add Layer Style"


Select "Drop Shadow"
