JEE Advanced 2016 – IntroductionJEE Advanced 2016 is the second stage of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Two lakh shortlisted candidates on the basis of JEE Main 2016 Scores will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced. But remember, you can only apply for the coveted entrance exam for a maximum of 2 times, consecutively. So, if you don’t want to miss it, devise a strategy and work hard.As you are one of the candidates among the 2 lakh selects for JEE Advanced 2016, you must remember that 1 out of 20 candidates will be selected for admissions to the 18 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad. Therefore, what is most crucial for getting you an entry ticket into one of the IITs, is your preparation strategy.Careers360 brings you tips from experts and toppers of JEE Advanced on ‘How to prepare for JEE Advanced 2016’. The E-Book also provides you tips regarding prep-aration strategy, important books and subject-wise study plan for JEE Advanced.

What exam experts suggest for cracking JEE Advanced 2016?

What should be your revision techniques?

When you have one month remaining for the exam, experts suggest you to focus more

on revising the concepts and solving as many questions as possible. Ramesh Batlish,

FIIT JEE Noida, Centre Head says, “The most crucial thing about cracking the engi-

neering exam is clarity of concepts and solving problems as many as possible.”

• Studentsshouldmaximizetheireffortsandoptimizetheirresources.

• Revisionismorecrucial.It’sbesttorevisethroughthenotesyouhavetaken

during your preparatory months.

• Go through the problems and solutionswhich you have already done some

time back.

• Itisimportanttonotethatitwillnotbepossibletodoalltheproblemsorcover

all the topics in detail in this last month. So check all those problems that you

have already done just to refresh your memory.

• Keep handy notes for the lastminute exam revisionwhile you are doing a

thorough revision.

Why more practice is needed?

What should be your time schedule?

• Well that explains it all.Mock tests will play an important role in the last

stages of preparation.

What more need to be taken care of?

What are the important topics?

You may not be able to complete the whole portion in this month. It doesn’t matter.

What matters is to complete a major portion and leave those topics that are new or

relatively unknown to you.Keep a note of all your doubts and get them clarified

regularly. You can take the help of your teachers, friends or seniors for this.

Ramesh Batlish, FIIT JEE Noida, Centre Head shares some of the important topics

for JEE Advanced 2016. He says, “While an aspirant should not miss any topic, no

matter how small, there are some most important topics in each subject for the

advanced stage of the coveted engineering exam, which may give you an edge over

others.”

The exam expert shares the most important topics, as mentioned below–

1. JEE papers of previous years suggest that more attention should be paid to topics

like Vectors and 3-D than Probability or Indefinite integration. Vectors and 3-D

offer very less scope to examiner as far as variety in problem is concerned. Every

year, 2-3 problems are asked directly from Complex Numbers. Hence, mastering

Complex Numbers, Vectors, 3-D and Definite Integral must be top priority.

2. Algebra can be easier for you if you have the ability to picture functions as graphs,

andaregoodat applyingvertical&horizontal origin shifts carefully.Zeroesof

functions and other specific values can be done in lesser time using these

techniques.

3. Differential Calculus again relates well to roots of equations, especially if you use

the Rolle’s and Lagrange’s theorems.

4. Complex numbers can be used to solve questions in co-ordinate geometry too.

Trigonometric questions require application of De Moivre’s theorem.

5. Permutation Combination and Probability is another very important topic in

Algebra. You need to be thorough with the basics of Bayes’ theorem, derangements

and various ways of distribution, taking care of cases where objects are identical

and when they are not.

6.Matricescanberelatedtoequations;hencea3x3matrixcanactuallybevisualized

as being three-planed in 3D geometry.

7. Integral Calculus can be simplified using tricks and keeping in mind some basic

varieties of integrable functions. Remembering the properties and applying them

1. Conceptual clarity, application skills and completion of prescribed syllabus should

be main focus.

2. Practice the important numerical daily to develop speed. Pay special attention to

topics like Mole concept, Chemical Equilibrium and Electrochemistry.

3.Extra attention should be given to Stereochemistry, GOC (General Organic

Chemistry)andFunctionalGroupAnalysis.

4. In Inorganic Chemistry, most of the questions are conceptual that are concerned

with structures, processes and applications. Special attention should be given to

Chemical Bonding and Coordination Chemistry.

Chemistry

wisely saves a lot of time.

8.CoordinateGeometryrequiresagoodworkingknowledgeofparametricformsof

various conic sections and an ability to convert the tougher ones to basic forms,

and then interpret the solutions accordingly.

1. Mechanics is one topic of Physics that is considered less scoring by most of the

experts. However, this topic also forms the major portion of JEE Advanced in terms

of weightage. So, this topic cannot be neglected.

2. One must also try to concentrate on other scoring topics to ensure a better perfor-

mance, for example, Optics, Electricity & Magnetism, etc.

Physics

3.KinematicsandParticleDynamicsareveryimportanttopicsofMechanics.These

should be practiced properly.

4. According to general trends, Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism are the most

important topics in terms of the number of questions asked in JEE of previous

years.

5. In the decreasing order of weightage, listed below are different topics of Physics

according to their appearance in previous years’ papers.

Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism (equally important)

• ModernPhysics

• Optics

• Heat&ThermodynamicsandWaves&Sound

• Measurement&Errors

6. Thermodynamics is an important topic of Physics as well as Chemistry. It is wise

to cover Wave Optics first under ‘Optics’ topic. This is a smaller topic as compared

to Ray Optics, thus quick to cover.
