How to install a box camera with lens

This is your basic box camera with an Auto iris lens. A standard lens or a manual iris lens will not have a wire attached to it.

Box cameras usually come with 2 attachment rings. These are for different types of lenses. Only in rare situations you will need both rings attached. Unscrew the small ring and leave the bigger one attached (if you will not use the correct ring you will not be able to get a clear focus).

Now attach the lens. Make sure that the threads are aligned. If the lens will stop mid way, unscrew and try again. DO NOT FORCE IT.

After securing the lens in place, you will need to connect the lens controller wire to the appropriate connector on the camera – this is very important because the camera controls the auto iris inside the lens. Failing to do so,

will cause the camera to not show any picture. Connect the power and the coax cable for video to the DVR system.

Use the focus and zoom handles on the lens part to achieve the picture you want. Lock the lens in place by tightening the little screws. HAND FORCE ONLY! DO NOT USE ANY TOOLS.

Troubleshooting

In case you don’t see anything or the picture is not focused:

If you cannot get a clear picture (focus) then you either connected the wrong attachment ring, or you have to screw or unscrew the lens just a little bit in order to achieve a good focus. Also check the zoom and focus on the lens itself.

Manual iris lenses do not have the wire coming out of them. Please refer to your camera’s manual for correct settings for auto (DC) iris or manual.

Box cameras can be mounted from the ceiling or from a wall. In that case the mounting bracket attachment on the camera should be flipped (refer to the camera’s installation manual). DO NOT flip the camera itself, because you will get an upside down image.
