Pick the location where you want yourpond Make sure location is where it gets sun but not all the time, also make sure your pond wont be under any large trees Make sure you place your pond near adeck or a patio, that way you can get themost enjoyment from it. 3. Determine how big you would like yourpond. It should be a size that doesnt look tooverwhelming for your yard. Decide which shape you would like your pond. Be creative, no two koi ponds have to look alike. 4. Lay your design out by using a gardenhose Once you have the desired shape madewith garden hose then take markingpaint and spray all the way around hose. Give it an undefined border for a morenatural appearance. 5. Take a tape measure and get appropriatemeasurements of your outline Go purchase correct size liner and filterkit to do your project. Make sure filtration system is adequateenough to keep your pond clean for thedepth you decide on. 6. Start digging It is best to dig your pond by hand( witha shovel) Dig in shelves, making each shelve deepereach time. Make sure the base of your pond is atleast 18-24 inches deep. 7. Make sure all sharp rocks are out of yourpond area. Remove anything that can puncture yourliner or make your underlayment not laysmoothly. It is best to take a tamper and pack downall your shelves to make sure all hardrocks are gone and to ensure a smoothliner. Make sure all your shelves are level thatway you dont have a shallow side. 8. Now you are ready to lay down yourunderlayment. Stretch it out completely and make sureit is pressed firmly against all shelf walls. After you have your underlayment alllaid out next you put your pond linerover top of your underlayment. Smooth out all wrinkles starting fromyour bottom shelf and working your wayto the top. 9. Add rocks to the inside of the pond Place larger rocks on the outside edges ofthe shelves Add smaller rocks and gravel to the openspaces Dont completely fill in the bottom ofyour liner mostly just line the edges. 10. Install pump and filtratation Make sure your pump inlet is located onthe opposite side of the pond as the filteroutlet Add decorative underwater lights for adramatic effect 11. Add water As u add water pull on the liner so tosmooth out any wrinkles that may be in it Allow water to circulate through thefiltration system for one week Once the week is up add your Koi andenjoy the peacefulness of your new Koipond
