Project BOO Games

• European project co-funded by the INTERREG IVC programme

approved in December 2011

• 36 month-project (Jan 2012- Dec 2014)

• Gathering 14 partners from 8 different countries with different

experiences

Objectives of the project

The aim of the BOO-Games project is to support public regional

development authorities in understanding the importance of the games

industry for the European and the Regional economy.

By highlighting:

- the challenges they are not aware of or that they are already facing

- the societal and economical impact of video games in today’s economy

- but also by looking at critical elements such as:

– public funding,

– private investment incentives,

– talent incubation,

– cluster development

- and the improvement of public perception of digital games potential as

well as risk management for public authorities in the communication on

game related matters.

Activities of the project

Regional Analysis of the Games sector in each region to be able to understand the state of

the art in each region but also to identify needs and gaps

3 Study Visits organised in Germany, France and UK in order to have a look at initiatives to

support the sector

5 Thematic Workshops on relevant topics highlighting the issues faced by the sector in EU

and find common solutions

2 pilot projects by transferring 2 selected GP in Malta and Bulgaria

1 implementation plan for each region to improve the regional policy framework

The smart specialization strategy

• Smart specialisation is an ex-ante conditionality in the Cohesion Policy.

• Member States and Region have to develop such a strategy before they received Structural funds.

• Île-de-France Region presented its regional strategy on September 17.
