RECYCLED & RECYCLABLE

Products from green frog designs are made, wherever possible, from materials that are recycled. Where this is not practical, we always try to use materials that are suitable for recycling. Our plastic is made from recycled waste plastic, predominantly plastic wrapping and carrier bags. By choosing our products, rather than those made from virgin plastic, you are helping to restrict the amount of new plastic being made. We recycle all our waste plastic and, of course, our products themselves canbe recycled (if they ever wear out!!).The recycled plastic we use is incredibly tough, but is as easily worked as wood. There is no need for preservative treatment with insecticides or fungicides, and structures won’t splinter or crack, so they retain their structural integrity well. The plastic is resistant to UV light, so it retains its colour well, and is pretty much impervious to atmospheric pollutants and seasonal climatic actions such as freeze–thaw. It insulates quite well, and is also resistant to chewing. These properties mean that it retains its appearance, colour and functionality for much longer than timber. The sheets of recycled plastic have a very uniform thickness, and so are ideally suited to our high-technology manufacturing process, which uses computer-controlled machines to cut shapes to accuracies better than 0.1mm.We also use some metal components to fix parts together. The metals used are either stainless steel or other rust-resistant alloy, so they have a very long lifetime. They are also suitable for recycling. Our packaging and literature is all made from recycled materials wherever possible. For example, assembly instructions are printed on recycled paper, and we use recycled plastic bubble-wrap in our packaging. Even our business cards are made from 80% recycled card.In other words: Fun, functional products that don't cost the Earth!

HOW TO ASSEMBLE

1 Attach the Right and Left walls, patterned side out, to the Rear Wall using Medium Clevis Pins and R-Clips.

2 Now attach the Front Wall, patterned side outermost, the same way.

3 Add a Handle to the Left Wall using Medium Clevis Pins and R-Clips, pattern uppermost.

4 Attach one Ratchet Lock, one Spacer and one Ratchet Retainer to the Left Wall in the order shown, using 40mm Screws, Standard Washers and Nylock Nuts. Ensure that the Ratchet Lock is fitted so that the finger hole is above the handle lugs when secured (See step 5 image). The Nylock Nuts should be tightened gently until the Ratchet Lock stays in position after being rotated.

5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the Right Wall. 6 Place the Ratchet through the assemblies you have just built, as shown, on both sides. This will assist the build later.

7 Attach the Cover, patterned side up, using the rear lugs. With the Cover resting in place, fit the right hand lug by sliding the roof sideways. Then pull the rear edge up in the middle until the left lug can be fitted.

8 Slide the Handle Bar up into the front of the Cover, and secure with Medium Clevis Pins and R-Clips.

9 Attach and secure the Right Cover Support, slightly bending each sideways to fit over the lug on the end of the Handle Bar. You will need to tilt it into position. Secure it with Medium Clevis Pins and R-Clips.

10 Repeat for the Left Cover Suport.

11 Attach the Ratchets to the Left and Right Cover Supports, using a Spacer, 40mm Screw, Standard Washer and Nylock Nut in the order shown. Do not over-tighten - the Ratchet should be able to rotate freely.

12 The Cover can now be supported in an open position by rotating the Ratchet Stops until they fit into the Ratchet teeth. Be sure to support the Cover at the same position on both sides.

INFORMATION

You can use your cold frame to extend the growing season by sheltering plants from cold weather in the spring and autumn. You can even harvest cool weather crops, such as green vegetables, right through the winter if you site your cold frame carefully. Cold frames usually rely on the sun for their source of heat, so the best place to site a cold frame is against a wall facing south. It should be on free-draining soil or even gravel if you are using it to overwinter pot plants. It is important to have some protection against winter winds. Our cold frame is lightweight enough to be moved from one part of the garden to another should you wish. In the early spring, your cold frame can be used to harden-off seedlings that were grown in very warm conditions indoors or in a greenhouse. Hardening-off is critically important to the health of seedlings, which can easily die if moved directly from a warm environment to a cold one. You can also use your cold frame to grow seedlings from scratch, some weeks before they could be planted outdoors, before transferring them to the garden. On hot days, the lid should be propped open in order to control the temperature – the hotter the day, the higher the lid should be raised. And, of course, you must be careful to provide adequate water for plants in the frame, as they can dry out quite quickly, especially if they are in pots.In the autumn, you can plant cool-weather green crops in the frame, and reap a harvest throughout the winter.Your cold frame needs no regular maintenance. Any dirt can simply be wiped off with a cloth. However, it is recommended that you wash it thoroughly, ideally using a pressure washer, at least a couple of times a year.
