Common Denominator = 3 Adding Fractions with Common Denominators 1 Common Denominator = 11 4. Independent Practice #1. Click on the correct answer 5. Correct Answer 1 +5 = 6 6 (Keep denominator the same, and reduce your answer) Problem #1 Proceed to next slide 6. Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators *The first step to add fractions with different denominators, is to find the least common denominator (LCD). An easy way to do this, is to list the multiples of each denominator. Lets find the multiples of 2 and 3. To do this, simply multiply the number 2 by 1,2,3,4 and so on, until a common number is identified. In the below example, the common number between 2 and 3 is 6. 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 Equation 7. Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators Step 1. Determine the multiples of 4 and 7 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 Common denominator= 28 Step 2. Set up your equation like the one shown to the right, with the new denominator. + Equation 8. Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators + Equation 9. Multiplying Fractions Equation 10.
