REASON #1“You use Twitter or Facebook to rant about how much you
dislike your current job.”
![Page 3: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
EXAMPLES
![Page 4: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
Any recruiter looking at you profile may think that if they hired you and things didn’t work out, their company will be next in the firing line for your verbal rants.
Keep your opinions to yourself – even if you dislike where you currently work! If you must vent your opinion, keep it to the private journal under your bed where no one can see it.

REASON #2“You use bad language or
make vulgar remarks in your status updates.”
![Page 6: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

HOW TO DO IT RIGHT Being employed in a childcare setting requires the
ability to provide a good example to others and that encompasses not swearing or using offensive language.
The solution? Delete any past posts which are like this, and clean up your language moving forward!
![Page 8: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
REASON #3“Your friends have tagged you in appropriate photos or
videos.”
![Page 9: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
EXAMPLES

HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
You can review the photos on your timeline and “untag” or delete any which you deem may harm your chances of getting the job. Think like an employer.
Moving forward - change your privacy settings on Facebook so that when friends tag you in photos, you have to approve them before they appear on your timeline. No more nasty surprises!
![Page 11: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
Working in a childcare environment means that you need to be respectful of diversity and other cultures, and uphold good moral behaviour.
Re -tweeting any jokes or comments which could be deemed as racially offensive, demeaning to others, or sexually explicit should be avoided.
![Page 13: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)

professional and personal accounts.”
![Page 14: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
A professional account (like LinkedIn) can be used to network with people in the same industry and look for jobs. It acts as an “online CV” for potential recruiters.
Managers sometimes look at a candidate’s LinkedIn profile before deciding whether or not they should get the job.
If you want your personal life to stay private, do not link your professional profile to your Twitter or Facebook account.
![Page 15: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
REASON #6“You have badmouthed your
colleagues”
![Page 16: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
EXAMPLE

HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
Social media should not be used as a platform to air your dirty laundry. If you don’t have anything good to say about the people you work with, don’t say it all!
![Page 18: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
REASON #7“You spend too much time on
social media.”
![Page 19: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
If you tweet every 20 minutes and post a status on Facebook several times daily, it may be worth cutting back on your habit.
Managers want to employ well-rounded individuals
who have hobbies and interests outside of internet; not people who spend their lives on social media!
![Page 20: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
REASON #8“Your profile picture reflects
badly on you.”
![Page 21: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
EXAMPLE
Think carefully what your profile picture says about you
![Page 22: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT So you may think your profile of you in a bikini really
shows you at your best? Your future employer will not share the same opinion.
Provocative profile pictures which leave little to the imagination will not further your career prospects in any job (unless you want to work as a model!).
Change your main profile picture to something more respectable, like a headshot of you smiling.
![Page 23: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
IF ALL ELSE FAILS..“Change your settings so your social media profile is
not public.”
![Page 24: How social media stops you getting the job](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070322/5592d04a1a28ab16118b4571/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
