What is the NAP process?

A strategic process that enables countries to identify and address their medium- and long-term priorities for adapting to climate change.

It puts in place the systems and capacities needed to make adaptation an integral part of a country’s development planning, decision-making, and budgeting.

How can the NAP process be used to implement the Paris Agreement?

• NAPs are part of the Paris Agreement (Article 7.9): Each party shall, as appropriate, engage in adaptation planning processes and the implementation of actions, including the development or enhancement of relevant plans, policies and/or contributions…

• NAPs / parts of NAPs can be submitted as an Adaptation Communication

• NAP processes can inform NDC updates, or vice versa

• Parts of NAPs can be used to prepare the adaptation section of Biennial Transparency Reports
