HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY KNOW About Causes And Consequences Of Back Injuries In The Workplace?

PRESENTED BY

At the Eley Law Firm, we've been providing

dedicated advocacy to injured workers in

Colorado for over 25 years. As such, we

know how the terminology used to discuss

work-related injuries can seem confusing

and even a bit intimidating to the average

person.

In light of this reality and our genuine desire

to help people better understand the risks

they are facing at their places of

employment, we’re now going to examine a

very common work injury.

• The frequency of work-related

back injuries

• The common causes of work-related

back injuries

• The consequences of work-related

back injuries

• The options available to those who've

suffered work-related back injuries

IN OUR PRESENTATION, WE'LL EXPLORE:

that musculoskeletal injuries -- those

affecting the muscles, ligaments, tendons

and other structures that help the body

move -- continue to plague workers.

GOVERNMENT STATISTICS SHOW

One area of the body that is particularly

susceptible to these work-related

musculoskeletal injuries is the back.

JUST HOW COMMON ARE BACK INJURIES IN THE WORKFORCE?

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of

Labor Statistics, the number of work-

related back injuries has recently soared

to the following heights:

• 183,100 in 2011

• 178,190 in 2012

• 170,450 in 2013

STATISTICS

HOW ARE SO MANY WORKERS HURTING THEIR BACKS?

• OVEREXERTION: Work that

pushes the body too far

• REPETITIVE MOTION: Work

that is uninterrupted, strenuous

and physically awkward

• FALLS: Work that is

characterized by

slips, trips or tumbles

THREE OF THE LEADING CAUSES OF BACK INJURIES ON THE JOB INCLUDE:

Due to the complex and delicate

anatomy of the spine, workers

across all sectors can suffer a

range of very serious injuries

from sprains and strains resulting

in weeks or months of recovery,

to herniated discs resulting in

years of recovery or even

total permanent disability.

THE SPINE

While the idea of suffering any type of

serious back injury on the job is

unsettling, it's important to understand

that workers' compensation benefits

can provide you with peace of mind

about both the present and the future.

• Medical benefits

• Disability benefits

• Lost wage benefits
