How Engine Vacuum Leak Affects Your Vehicle?
There are many areas of the vehicle that need more attention to
resolving any problem with them like the engine vacuum.
The vacuum problem can't be quickly identified and it needs
more snooping around inside the engine.
Does it affect the engine?
Yes, vacuum leak allows the unmeasured air to enter
inside the engine and disturb the air-fuel ratio and directly
affects the fuel economy of the vehicle.
Which parts can cause the leak in a vacuum?
There are common engine parts can cause the leak to vacuum like :- carburetor
:- throttle body gaskets :- carburetor insulator spacers
:- intake manifold gaskets :- engine's vacuum fittings
:- hoses :- leaky O-rings around the fuel injectors etc.
But sometimes vacuum leak can disguise itself to other problems like :- ignition problem
:- incorrect fuel selection etc.
Sometimes vacuum leak shows the basic symptoms like whistle or hissing
sound.
Too fast idle speed :- if your vehicle is too fast idling despite of your effort to :-Control the speed or :- controle carburetor idle speed :- Air bypass adjustment in air injection etc.
A rough idle or vehicle stalling :-
A vacuum leak can lean the air-fuel mixture that makes the engine
stall instead of remaining in idle condition.
This continuous stalling affects the fuel economy and
sometimes the engine won't idle at all.
This stalling condition happens due to problems in
several engine parts like
:- Stuck EGR valve
:- wrong or loose PCV valve etc
The air-fuel mixture is too lean that causes misfire and
directly lead to rough idle.
Misfiring at the time of acceleration:- Vacuum leak
can be a cause of misfire at the time of acceleration,
but except it, there are other causes that lead to
misfire.
Misfire can be caused by
:- weak or inoperative accelerator pump in a
carburetor or
:- Dirty injectors etc.
Misfire also even caused by ignition problems such as a :-
:-cracked coil,
:-worn spark plugs or
:- incorrectly gapped plugs.
How To Detect The leak ?
There are different ways to detect the leak in vacuum of the engine.. :- Visual inspection :- Use of propane :- Use Of aerosol carburetor cleaner .
Visual inspection :- This technique is the very difficult one to
find out the leak. It takes sometimes a few minute or your half
day to find out.
Use of propane or aerosol carburetor cleaner works much faster to locate if there is a leak inside the hoses or broken fittings etc.
Use of smoke machine to locate the vacuum leak :-
In service centers, the professional mechanic uses the
smoke machine that helps to locate leak by sending
the mix of smoke and ultraviolet dye inside the
hoses.
