Students work alone to complete the worksheet. 2. After everyone has completed one of the questions, ask the students to read their questions. 3. Correct any errors in grammar or vocabulary you may hear. 4. Work on pronunciation. Lesson Extension: Reported speech Students work in pairs or groups. They have to begin their sentences with one of these starters: 1. She asked 2. He asked 3. She asked me 4. He asked me 5. She said 6. He said By completing the sentence starters using the sentences they wrote on this worksheet, the students are answering one of these questions: 1. What did he say? 2. What did she say? 3. What did he ask you? 4. What did she ask you? Working in pairs or groups, the students use one of the above questions to prompt the other student for a reply. Of course, you might have to give some examples to show how it is done first. Try to pair or group students in a way that promotes leadership. Youll have to consider what each students ability is. All classes are mixed-level in one way or another. Students should have the option of first writing and then saying their answer. However, you must be sure that everyone speaks during this lesson. Lesson Extension: Direct Speech Punctuation Students begin their sentences with She said or He said, punctuating them to show direct speech. o You can use the cover sheet for this lesson for beginner classes.
