If you press the 2nd of the three buttons on the left (circled) it will take four pictures in a row, like in a real photo booth. The 3rd button will take videos. Click the center button to go back to the camera

When you click on a photo or video to view it, the window changes. You can use the new buttons to email the photo, send it to iPhoto, make it your account photo, or make it your iChat picture. To access the camera again, click the center button.

3 Use the Effects arrows or dots to see more effects.

Click the Effects button on the right to see several cool effects. Sort through the effects using the arrow buttons or the center four dots. Effects can be used for photos and video.

Use PhotoBooth

4One of the Effects is background photos and videos. When you click one, you will get a message that says, “Please step out of the frame.” Step out of the way, then the background will appear. The background effect works better if there is a plain background behind you with nothing moving. Make sure you do not move the computer once the background is detected. If the background gets messed up, click View in the top toolbar and choose, Reset Effect.

5You can also drag in your own photos, videos, and animations made in Keynote. Go to the last effect where you see several grey boxes that say, “Drag Backdrop Here.” Drag a photo or video into the box, then repeat the same steps as in #4. Some photos may not fit correctly so that is when you need to use screenshots which are explained in #6 below.

Push Command + Shift + 4 to get the crosshairs which you drag around what you want to take a picture of .

6 You can create your own background in Keynote and then export it as a photo (File > Export). Or if you want to take a screenshot, press Command + Shift + 4 and you will see crosshairs that you drag across the picture. When you let go, it will send a file Picture 1 to your desktop. You can drag this Picture 1 file to your background in PhotoBooth.(NOTE: This will not work on student computers).

7You can also create animations in Keynote (like the food chain example on my webpage). To add animations, click the Inspector (blue i) and click the Builds button (yellow kite), then click a word or picture on the slide and add an Effect (push the Effect button). You can also add multiple slides with transitions (a separate Keynote tutorial explains all this). When you are finished, go to File > Export in the tool bar. Select QuickTime and make sure you change the Playback Uses button to say Fixed Timing. Adjust the Duration if you wish. Save the movie and then drag it into the PhotoBooth background.

The video will loop in PhotoBooth so you may want to change the duration so it lasts as long as you want without looping.

8Two menu items that will help you solve problems in Photo Booth are Edit > Auto Flip New Photos (which reverses the mirror effect in PhotoBooth, especially important if words are showing) and View > Reset Effect (which lets you reset the background if it gets messed up).
