GREG ABBOTT AND A HOST OFOTHER REPUBLICANS WILL BESEEKING YOUR VOTE IN THE 2014 REPUBLICAN PRIMARY

reg Abbott announced his candidacy for Governor of Texas on the anniver-sary date of perhaps one of the greatest misfortunes of his life. Lookingback 29 years, Abbott, while jogging in Houston had the misfortune of hav-ing a huge oak tree crack and fall on him, crushing his back, and damaginghis kidneys. Thus, Abbott has spent the last 29 years in a wheelchair.

He is one of the nation’s leading advocates for stopping the federal overreach ofthe Obama Administration, a defender of the Constitution, and a conservative to thecore: Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Few leaders have amassed a record of defending state sovereignty like Greg Ab-bott. Abbott has filed more than two dozen lawsuits against the Obama Administration. He has taken on burdensome EPA regulations and succeeded. He fought ObamaCareall the way to the United States Supreme Court. He has stood on the solid ground ofthe 10th Amendment to protect local classrooms, and individual freedom.

A husband and father, Greg Abbott understands the importance of preserving Consti-tutional, traditional values – like faith, family and freedom for future generations. That’swhy as the state’s chief law enforcement official, Abbott has made protecting children, families and values the focus of his administration.

Shortly after taking office, Attorney General Abbott established a Cyber Crimes Unitto arrest criminals who use the Internet to prey upon children; a Fugitive Unit to arrestconvicted sex offenders who violate their parole; and an expanded Medicaid Fraud Con-trol Unit to crack down on elder abuse and waste of taxpayer dollars. Since taking office,General Abbott has collected more than $25 billion in child support for Texas children.

Attorney General Abbott believes there is no higher power than God, and in March2005 he personally appeared before the United States Supreme Court, where he suc-cessfully defended the constitutionality of the Ten Commandments display that adornsthe Texas Capitol grounds.

Greg Abbott was reelected as the 50th Attorney General of Texas on November 2,2010. Prior to his election to three terms as Attorney General, Greg Abbott served asa Justice on the Texas Supreme Court and as a State District Judge in Harris County.

A native Texan, Attorney General Abbott was born in Wichita Falls and raised inDuncanville. After graduating from The University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Finance,he received his law degree from Vanderbilt University. Shortly after graduating fromlaw school, he was partially paralyzed by a falling tree while jogging. He and his wife,Cecilia, a former school teacher and principal, have been married for 31 years. Theylive in Austin with their daughter, Audrey. He is an avid sportsman and hunter.

A LEADER YOU SHOULD

KNOW IN OUR STATE

Mayor Betsy Price is theLeader of Fort Worth, TX

Betsy Price, a Fort Worthnative, was elected in 2011 asthe 44th mayor of the City ofFort Worth. In 2013, Price ranunopposed and was re-electedto a second two-year term. Asthe 16th largest city in theUnited States, Fort Worth re-mains one of the fastest grow-ing large cities in the country.

Along with her focus on

promoting jobs, strengtheningeducation, fighting crime andimproving mobility, Price hasmade significant strides alongthe path toward her vision of ahealthy, engaged and fiscallyresponsible city.

A Healthy Community

Instead of sitting in cars,on the couch or in the office,Price believes in a communitythat naturally promotes physi-cal activity throughout the day.

During her first term, Priceled a community effort to builda city that’s more fit, happy andproductive. The result was Fit-Worth, a citywide initiative fo-

cused on promoting activelifestyles and healthy habits inboth kids and adults. With aninitial $250,000 grant fromOncor, FitWorth is working tostem the rising tide of obesity, especially in children. Thanksto FitWorth, employers, schools, hospitals, faith com-

munities, non-profits and retail-ers are energized and activelypromoting a more healthy andsustainable city.

Building a healthy commu-nity is much more than promot-ing exercise and goodnutrition. It’s also about design-ing a city that gives residentsthe opportunity to leave the carat home, opting for alternate

modes of transportation. Underher leadership, Fort Worth hasbecome a foremost cyclingcommunity, adding miles ofnew bike lanes and trails. Pro-moting pedestrian-friendlyurban villages has also re-mained a staple of Price’s vi-sion for rebuilding the city’s

urban core. Moreover, shecontinues to push her long-term goal of linking neighbor-hoods and job centers with acomprehensive and convenientcommuter rail system.

An Engaged Public

As Price likes to say, “It’sYour Fort Worth.” She under-stands a city is nothing withoutan active and engaged citi-zenry. Shortly after beingelected as mayor, Price madequick work of starting a move-ment to get young peoplemore involved in driving localpublic policy. The response toher call to young adults wasoverwhelming. Within a matterof months, citizens under theage of 40 from across the citycame together, set a chargeand dubbed themselvesSteerFW. The organization hasgrown to more than 300-strong, with various task forcestackling some of the cities

A strong fiscal conservative, Price applied the skills she gar-nered as a business owner and from a decade of service as

Tarrant County’s Tax Assessor to tightening the city’s belt. “

FORT WORTH, TEXAStoughest challenges. Thanks to today’s hectic and busy so-

ciety, getting citizens—both young andold—involved in charting the course fortheir city requires more creative ap-proaches to the typical town hall meeting. With that in mind, Price found severalways to promote grassroots government. Most notably, her Walking and RollingTown Halls have broken the mold of thattired town hall meeting with a casual—and healthy—way for citizens to connectwith city leaders. Price also understandsthe power of the Internet to bring commu-nities together to seize opportunities andaddress challenges. In 2013, Price led thecharge to launch YourFortWorth.org, thecity’s first 24/7 online public forum allow-ing citizens to share and vote on newideas to improve their city.

A Fiscally Responsible City

A strong fiscal conservative, Price ap-plied the skills she garnered as a busi-ness owner and from a decade of serviceas Tarrant County’s Tax Assessor to tight-ening the city’s belt. With a close eye onthe bottom line, Price has been a consis-tent champion of using responsible andsustainable budget cuts to balance thecity’s $1.2 billion budget. Additionally,Price and the City Council made boldchanges to the city’s pension plan in 2012to protect taxpayers and stabilize the fundfor current and future retirees.

Price also believes in the power ofdoing public good with private investment.Putting to good use her decades of expe-rience building personal and professionalbridges, Price matched generous bene-factors with community needs to help thecity with everything from health and fit-ness, to public engagement, to publicpools, to animal adoptions and more.

Price graduated from ArlingtonHeights High School and earned a bache-lor’s degree from the University of Texasat Arlington. Since then, she has been anactive mother and a leader in the FortWorth community, serving on numerousboards, commissions and professionalassociations.

After running her own successfulbusiness for 17 years, Price turned topublic service, and was elected in 2000 toserve as Tarrant County’s Tax Assessorwhere she quickly made her departmentone of the most efficient in Texas, savingtaxpayers millions of dollars.

She has been married to Tom, an in-surance agent, for more than 40 yearsand has three adult children, Kathryn,Phillip and Paul. In her spare time, Priceis an avid cyclist and enjoys spendingquality time with her three grandsons,Chappell, Price and Dalton.
