Building your Foundation for Success
First –Year/ Transfer Student Housing Application
PARENTS, HAVE YOUR STUDENT COMPLETE THE HOUSING APPLICATION
Housing Sign-up dates
May 2- On-line Housing sign-up commences at 9:00am.
June 1- On-Line housing application closes, documentation for medical single rooms request,
closes at 5:00pm.
June 15-On-line roommate selection, meal plan changes, closes at 5:00pm.
July 6- Room Assignments completed and via email to students.
Online Housing Sigh-Up Process: Step-By- Step Instructions
As a first year / transfer student, you may have many questions about signing up for housing. We
have created a step- by-step manual to help you through the procedure. Applying for housing
has never been easier, just follow the on-line instructions and you will be on your way to living
on campus at Colorado School of Mines!

Once you have explored our Residence Life student housing website, you may begin your housing
application. Before starting the housing process, you will need the following items;
E-Key =this will be sent to you in your admissions packet. You must have an E-Key to create your
Mines Trailhead and Email. Go to http://newuser.mines.edu to create your account.

Credit Card ($50.00 application fee)

You will come to this screen. Click on “Campus Life” tab.
Scroll down to the lower left corner of page and you will see the link for “Residence Life Housing
Portal”, once you click on the link, it will take you to the housing application process and you may begin
your housing application.

1. Profile Summary, Please read and click on the Tab “Application “upper left.

2. Personal Details, Please review and verify that all of your personal details below are
correct. If your personal information is incorrect within any locked field, please visit Trailhead
("Self Service" section) to update information. Please complete the additional details section
below.

3. You are now on the “Emergency /Medical” page. It is mandatory you enter accurate
health information. Please complete this page thoroughly.

Please read the information on this page. All Health record should be sent to the Health
department.
Please check the box below stating that you agree. Once you have done this, click "Save
and Continue"
5. Room Preferences
You may select up to five room preferences. Keep in mind, we strive to place you in the building(s) you
requested; however, we cannot guarantee placement. Single rooms are limited and you may be assigned
to a double room.
**Note: For single rooms based on medical needs, refer to page 10 for more information. **

6. Additional Services, if your room preference is Maple Hall or Elm Hall and are
interested in renting an inside bike space or storage locker please click on the option you
are interested in. All locker spaces are limited.

7. Theme Learning Communities
Along with our housing selection, we offer an option for our elite students to live in one our
Themed Learning Communities. These communities are designed to have an intentional focus
on certain areas of interest to students. If you are interested in applying, please select the
community you are interested in and click button.
If you are interested, Please click "Save and Continue" mid page to proceed to the Theme
Learning Community Essay page. If you do not wish to sign up, scroll down to the bottom of the
page, save and continue.

8. Application Fee, a $50.00 non-refundable application fee is due in order to continue your
application.

9. Personal Profile is a chance to tell us more about yourself including your sleeping habits,
music preference, personal interests, etc.
Note: We ask that students complete this portion of the application, EXCLUDING PARENTS. This will ensure
a more accurate roommate selection

10. Roommate selection, you have several options in selecting a roommate. “Browse matching
roommate” allows you to view students that have completed their housing application. “Search
by Detail” This option will only work if the person you specifically requesting has completed their
housing application. “Search by Profile” enable you to select a specific roommate that may fit
your desired criteria.
Anytime you message a potential roommate, request a roommate, or someone attempts to do the same
with you, all correspondence is processed through your new Mines email account.

11. Rooms; Upper-class only
Room selection tab will be open only for upper class students in January returning upperclass sign-up.
Continuing students will have the opportunity to live in the residence halls in an assigned buildings and
floors. Students that are selected will be sent a time slot when to go into the housing portal and choose
the room / roommate.
12. Meal Plan - First Year Student Options, you may choose which meal plan would work best for
you. Click on the drop down box and select your meal plan. You have until June 15 to change
meal plan. It is mandatory that students living in the Residence Halls select a meal plan.

13. Housing Contract, You have reached the contract page. Please read
thoroughly! This contract is for the full academic year. Please check the
“Accepted terms and Conditions box”, enter your name and CWID number.

Medical Single Room Request
If you have a disability that requires a need for special accommodations, please submit your written
request with a doctor or licensed mental health professional’s documentation to Student Disability
Services http://disabilities.mines.edu/ or call 303.384.2595 for questions or concerns .
Documentation must be on letterhead from all physicians or licensed health professionals and
must include the following:
1. A diagnosis
2. A list of medications
3. Symptom of your condition.
4. Reason a single would be beneficial
A decision on your request will be made by a panel of professions who will notify you of their decision in
writing.
